Choosing a seat that suits the car

A Carrera 3.2 is a usable car rather than a stripped one, and a hard competition shell tends to fight that. It does not recline, it is cold in winter, and the bolsters make getting past the door aperture harder than it already is.

The reclining sport seats in the Cobra range give real lateral support while keeping the car pleasant to drive a long way, and several of them suit the period. Unless the car has a specific competition use, that is usually the honest recommendation and we would rather make it than sell you a bucket you regret in March.

Check where your car falls

This is the later frame. Cars built before October 1984 take a different one, so send the chassis number if you are close to the change.

Included in the price

Base frame and sliding runner, in the price. Sparco, Planted, OMP, Recaro and Corbeau all sell the runner as an extra.

Seat compatibility

Cobra base mountable buckets and reclining sport seats with a 291mm or 405mm wide handle. Not a side mounted seat without adaption bars or side mounts.

What's included?

What will be in the box? There are several types of seat frames which may be supplied depending on the vehicle and application. You may receive 1 of the following 4 types. If you are using them with a certain seat, please contact us in advance for professional advice.

#1. A full replacement frame with a sliding runner and resisitor kit
#2. A full replacement frame with a sliding runner
#3. A full replacement frame only
#4. An adaption bracket kit

Additional seat belt brackets: Each seat frame can be used for a variety of applications including road car reclining seats throuh to Motorsport FIA seats. Seat belt brackets are not required in a range of application so manufacturers generally do not supply them with their frame kits. If you require seat belt brackets please contact us in advance

NOT SUITABLE FOR OEM/FACTORY seats removed from other vehicles

Bolt point tolerances:

Please note that OMP, Sparco and various other brands have a +/- 10mm tolerance on the bolt point locations on each of their sub-frames. This means that when installing the equipment into your vehicle, you may find that one or more of the bolt points may need extending for a perfect fit.

This is normal and, when installed by a skilled professional, it may only add five minutes to the total installation time. A prime example is the OMP Renault Clio MK3 frames and the BMW E46 frames as two bolt points need extending by 5mm in 75% of installations.

Drilling of frames and equipment may be required to complete your installation.

Matching seats and frames:

There are over half a dozen different bolt patterns in the industry for base mounted seats. There are over 30 different bolt patterns for side mounted seats. Aftermarket frames from different brands will have different bolt location points.

Seats and frames are not a direct fit between brands. Seat frames are also not suitabled for OEM seats (Fitted into a vehicle from the factory) Please ensure to contact us for professional advice before purchasing your seat frames. We will be able to provide you a recommendation as to which seat frame is right for which seat.

What do I need to fit it to my car?
The car-specific frame for your vehicle, plus a sliding runner if you want fore-and-aft adjustment. Our guide on base mount versus side mount walks through the whole stack, and tell us your car and we will quote the full kit.

How do I know it will feel right, not just fit on paper?
Makers publish widths and weights, never feel, and two seats with identical numbers can feel nothing alike. We keep the ranges on display in the showroom, you are welcome to come and sit in them, and our head support measurements guide shows the kind of real-world data we collect.

Availability

Cobra seats are handcrafted in the UK

Each seat is built to the specification you choose, which is why the wait is what it is: on average around 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the trim and options.

Cobra do not allow queue jumping. Orders are produced in the order they are received, so the earlier yours is placed the earlier it is built.

Made to your specification

Because each seat is made for your order rather than picked off a shelf, a made-to-specification seat cannot be cancelled once it is in production, and our special order terms apply.

Working to a date, or not sure which trim to pick? Ring us before you order. Getting the specification right at the start is far easier than changing it later.

In-store displays:
