Cobra subframes are made to fit Cobra seats directly into your Mazda MX-5 Mk1 or Mk2 car quickly and easily. We strongly recommend using these when possible for a solid and secured fitment. These specific Mazda frames are essentially brackets that adapt your original equipment to allow the fitment of a Cobra seat. They are not complete replacement frames.

The Cobra subframes listed will only fit with seats of the same brand. If the subframes are used with seats made by other manufacturers correct fitment can not be guaranteed. These subframes will only fit base mountable bucket seats and reclining sports seats. They will not fit side-mounted seats without adaption bars or side mounts. Please check this when ordering.

Installation tips:

  1. The brackets for the driver’s side and passenger side are different lengths and must be used correctly with Cobra base-mounted seats. Some adjustment is needed for a perfect fit.
  2. The passenger bracket can be used in conjunction with certain OMP and Sparco base-mounted seats with minor re-drilling required to allow installation.
  3. OMP and Sparco seats on the driver’s side do not need the bracket, however, the original seat sliders do need to be re-drilled.

Important: When ordering subframes separately to seats we will need to know what seats you are fitting them to so we can ensure fitment is correct. Please add this information to the comments box on checkout.

What's included?

What will be in the box? There are several types of seat frames which may be supplied depending on the vehicle and application. You may receive 1 of the following 4 types. If you are using them with a certain seat, please contact us in advance for professional advice.

#1. A full replacement frame with a sliding runner and resisitor kit
#2. A full replacement frame with a sliding runner
#3. A full replacement frame only
#4. An adaption bracket kit

Additional seat belt brackets: Each seat frame can be used for a variety of applications including road car reclining seats throuh to Motorsport FIA seats. Seat belt brackets are not required in a range of application so manufacturers generally do not supply them with their frame kits. If you require seat belt brackets please contact us in advance  

NOT SUITABLE FOR OEM/FACTORY seats removed from other vehicles

Bolt point tolerances:

Please note that OMP, Sparco and various other brands have a +/- 10mm tolerance on the bolt point locations on each of their sub-frames. This means that when installing the equipment into your vehicle, you may find that one or more of the bolt points may need extending for a perfect fit.

This is normal and, when installed by a skilled professional, it may only add five minutes to the total installation time. A prime example is the OMP Renault Clio MK3 frames and the BMW E46 frames as two bolt points need extending by 5mm in 75% of installations.

Drilling of frames and equipment may be required to complete your installation.

Matching seats and frames:

There are over half a dozen different bolt patterns in the industry for base mounted seats. There are over 30 different bolt patterns for side mounted seats. Aftermarket frames from different brands will have different bolt location points. 

Seats and frames are not a direct fit between brands. Seat frames are also not suitabled for OEM seats (Fitted into a vehicle from the factory) Please ensure to contact us for professional advice before purchasing your seat frames. We will be able to provide you a recommendation as to which seat frame is right for which seat.

If you require fast delivery, please contact us in advance of ordering and we’ll happily check stock allocation and availability for you. We carry a large amount of stock at our showroom and across multiple distribution hubs. This allows us to provide immediate dispatch across a huge number of brands from Corbeau and Cobra through to Sparco and OMP. (Does not apply to all items)

Cobra seats are handcrafted in the UK. Each seat and product is lovingly created. On average, this takes around 4-6 weeks. (product specification depending) When ordering Cobra seats, you know you are getting a high-quality British product made to your specification.
