Tartan with the approval intact

Most period trims mean giving up homologation. This does not. It is the standard Imola competition shell with a tartan centre, so you can build a historic or period car and still satisfy a scrutineer.

Eight patterns: Blair Ancient, Boyd Modern, Earl of St Andrews, MacFarlane Clan Ancient, MacKenzie Dress Modern, MacMillan Old Modern, Stewart Dress Modern and Weir Ancient. Cobra hand trim these in the UK and let the tartan into the centre panel rather than printing it.

Why the Imola shell

Its 475mm base is the narrowest of Cobra’s three side mount competition shells, 15mm under the Suzuka T. That gives tighter lower bolsters and a snugger hold on your hips, and it is what gets the seat into a cockpit where the others foul the transmission tunnel.

The trade is weight: 10.3kg against 9kg for the Suzuka.

Specification

900mm tall, 590mm wide, 730mm deep. Side mount only. Harness facility for 4, 5 and 6 point belts. HANS compatible. High tensile mounting bolts supplied. Three year warranty.

All heights, 32 to 36 inch waist. The GT version is 30mm wider at 36 to 38 inches.

Choosing between the three shells

Cobra build three side mount competition shells and they differ where it matters, at the base and on the scales.

The Imola is 900mm tall on a 475mm base at 10.3kg, the narrowest base and so the snuggest lower hold. The Suzuka T is 900mm on a 490mm base at 9kg, the lightest of the three, and those extra 15mm mean a little less grip on your lower body. The Evolution is 935mm on a 500mm base at 12.2kg, the tallest and the widest based.

So it is a genuine choice rather than a ladder: snug and heavier, light and slightly looser, or tall and wide. Send us your height, your waist over your race kit, and the width between the sill and the tunnel, and we will tell you which one actually fits.

Will I fit in this seat?
The maker sizes this seat for drivers with a 32in to 36in waist. Those are the paper numbers; how a seat actually feels to sit in is a different question, and our showroom team sit in these seats every day, so call us and we will give you the honest answer.

What do I need to fit it to my car?

Cobra seats are handcrafted in the UK

Each seat is built to the specification you choose, which is why the wait is what it is: on average around 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the trim and options.

Cobra do not allow queue jumping. Orders are produced in the order they are received, so the earlier yours is placed the earlier it is built.

Made to your specification

Because each seat is made for your order rather than picked off a shelf, a made-to-specification seat cannot be cancelled once it is in production, and our special order terms apply.
