The Toyota IQ is one of the smallest production cars ever sold in the UK, which makes it a surprisingly challenging vehicle when it comes to aftermarket seat upgrades. While the compact dimensions make it a fantastic city car, they also create some unique fitment challenges when replacing the factory seats with aftermarket bucket seats or sports recliners.
Space inside the IQ is extremely limited. There is very little room between the door cards and centre tunnel, and fitting a pair of aftermarket seats can be even more difficult because you also need to make sure the seats don’t interfere with each other across the centre console area.
Unlike larger hatchbacks and coupes, the Toyota IQ gives you very little room for error when choosing seats. A seat that may fit comfortably in a Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo, or MINI can quickly become too large for the IQ. Even a small increase in shoulder width or base width can create clearance problems that make installation difficult or, in some cases, impossible without modifying parts of the interior.
The factory Toyota IQ seats are perfectly fine for everyday driving, but they offer limited support compared to aftermarket sports seats. During cornering, it’s common to find yourself moving around in the seat, especially if the car has been modified with suspension or handling upgrades.
Upgrading the seats can improve both support and the overall look of the interior. A good sports seat helps keep the driver more secure behind the wheel and can completely change the feel of the car.
The first choice is whether to go for a fixed back bucket seat or a reclining sports seat.
Fixed back bucket seats focus on performance and support. They feature deeper bolsters, a more secure seating position, and are often compatible with harness belts, making them ideal for track days and spirited driving.
Sports recliners offer a better balance between support and everyday comfort. They still provide much more support than the factory seats while retaining a reclining backrest for easier adjustment and improved practicality.
For most Toyota IQ owners, sports recliners are the more practical option for road use. However, compact bucket seats can work very well for drivers wanting a more track-inspired setup.
Whichever option you choose, fitment is the most important factor. The Toyota IQ has very limited interior space, so selecting a seat that fits the car properly is essential for avoiding clearance issues around the door cards, centre tunnel, and centre console.
Because the Toyota IQ is such a compact vehicle, only a small number of bucket seats fit comfortably without modifications. These three models have proven to be some of the best options available.

The Sparco Rev QRT is Sparco’s narrowest fibreglass bucket seat and one of the best premium bucket seat options available for compact vehicles like the Toyota IQ.
Built using Sparco’s lightweight QRT shell technology, the Rev offers a significant weight saving over traditional fibreglass seat designs while maintaining excellent rigidity and strength. This makes it particularly appealing to drivers focused on performance and weight reduction.
The shape of the Rev is very different from the steel-framed Sprint. It features a much deeper bucketed shell with more aggressive shoulder support and integrated kidney cushions designed to keep the driver securely positioned during hard cornering and braking.
The seat is trimmed in high-grip velour fabric and features embroidered Sparco branding on both the front and rear. The shell design is clean and compact, which is why it works so well inside smaller vehicles despite being a full fibreglass motorsport seat.
The Rev is also fully FIA approved and compatible with 6-point harness systems, making it suitable for serious track day and motorsport applications.

The Cobra Monaco Pro has become one of the most popular FIA-approved bucket seats in the UK thanks to its combination of comfort, support, and compact dimensions.
Like the Sparco Sprint, the Monaco Pro uses a steel frame construction, helping keep the overall dimensions relatively narrow while still offering excellent support. This makes it another proven fit for the Toyota IQ where space is at a premium.
The Monaco Pro has a slightly more open design compared to the Sparco Rev, making it easier for a wider range of drivers to fit comfortably. The side bolsters still provide excellent support, but the seat feels slightly less restrictive than some more aggressive motorsport seats.
The seat is trimmed in durable black velour fabric with contrasting Cobra branding and includes integrated harness slots for use with 4, 5, and 6-point harness systems. It is also FIA approved for motorsport use.
One of the reasons the Monaco Pro remains so popular is its balance between track performance and comfort. Many drivers find it easier to live with during longer driving sessions compared to tighter-fitting fibreglass alternatives.

For drivers wanting improved comfort without sacrificing practicality, these three sports recliners are our top choices for the Toyota IQ.
The Sparco R100 is one of the most popular reclining sports seats available and has been a favourite among enthusiasts for years. Its compact dimensions make it one of the few sports recliners that works particularly well inside smaller cars like the Toyota IQ.
The seat features a tubular steel frame construction combined with supportive side bolsters around the backrest and seat base. This creates a much sportier seating position compared to the factory Toyota seats while retaining everyday comfort and practicality.
The R100 is available in both fabric and vinyl trim combinations. The fabric option offers additional grip during spirited driving, while the vinyl option is easier to clean and maintain for daily-driven vehicles.
Its reclining mechanism allows drivers to fine-tune their seating position and makes entry and exit much easier than a fixed back bucket seat.

The Sparco R500 Sky takes the concept of the R100 and gives it a more premium and aggressive appearance. While both seats share a similar overall shape, the R500 features more pronounced bolstering and a sportier design.
The seat is available in both fabric and vinyl trim combinations, allowing customers to choose between extra grip or easier maintenance depending on how the vehicle is used.
One of the biggest advantages of the R500 is that it remains compact enough for the Toyota IQ while offering a more premium appearance compared to many entry-level recliners.
The shoulder design remains relatively narrow, helping avoid clearance issues with the door cards while still providing noticeably more support than the factory seating.

The Corbeau SVR is the most supportive recliner featured in this guide and is an excellent option for drivers wanting a more performance-focused road seat without moving to a fixed back bucket seat.
The seat features larger side bolsters around both the backrest and seat base, creating a much more secure seating position during spirited driving. Despite the added support, the seat still remains comfortable enough for daily use and longer journeys.
The SVR is available in a range of trim options including fabric and vinyl combinations, allowing customers to tailor the seat to their interior and driving requirements. It can also be specified with optional seat heating, making it one of the most comfortable choices for year-round road use.
The open-bottom seat design provides more room around the hips than many bucket seats, allowing it to suit a much wider range of driver sizes.

The biggest challenge when fitting seats into the Toyota IQ is managing available space.
Every seat recommended in this guide stays below our recommended maximum dimensions of:
These measurements are critical because they help avoid common fitment problems around the door cards, centre tunnel, and centre console area.
Once you start exceeding these dimensions, modifications may become necessary. This can include removing door cards, trimming interior panels, modifying the centre tunnel, or making other compromises that most owners would rather avoid.
The seats listed here have been selected specifically because they fit within the available space while still providing meaningful improvements in support and comfort.
Thankfully, there is an off-the-shelf installation solution available for the Toyota IQ.
Planted Technology produces a vehicle-specific seat subframe that bolts directly to the factory floor mounting points. This replaces the original seat frame and creates a platform for aftermarket seats and mounting equipment.
All of the seats featured in this guide share the common 345 mm bolt pattern used throughout the aftermarket seat industry.
The Sparco Rev requires side mounts because it is a composite shell bucket seat.
The Sparco Sprint and Cobra Monaco Pro can be side-mounted or base-mounted thanks to their steel frame designs.
The sports recliners use a base-mounted setup and require sliding runners between the seat and frame.
For customers wanting an adjustable installation, we recommend using Endurance Motorsport sliding runners. These provide approximately 200 mm of forward and backward adjustment and work perfectly with the Planted Technology frame.
A typical bucket seat installation consists of:
Drivers wanting the lowest possible seating position can mount the bucket seat directly to the side mounts and subframe without runners.
If you’re looking for even more options, we have also created a dedicated Toyota IQ Bucket Seat Guide on our website.
The guide covers a much wider range of seat options that fit the IQ and includes additional information on seat sizing, driver fitment, and installation equipment.
