Nissan Patrol Y60 bucket seat guide

Y60, up to 1997

This guide covers the Y60 Patrol, confirmed for vehicles built up to 1997, the coil sprung generation with solid axles front and rear. It has a serious following among people who take four wheel drives a long way from help, and the people fitting a competition seat here are usually building for off road competition or overland work rather than anything on tarmac.

Mounting

The OMP Direct Fit Subframe at £126.50 is confirmed for the Y60 Patrol, built up to 1997.

The Sparco FIA Steel Side Mount Brackets at £75 and the Sparco Seat Sliding Runner Kit at £34.95 give further fixing options for seats using their own runners.

Competition bucket seats

The Cobra Monaco Pro at £235 is the accessible starting point. The OMP Champ-R at £318, Sabelt GT3 at £431, Cobra Suzuka T GT RT at £480.83, and Cobra Nogaro Club Sport at £524.17 sit a step up.

The Sparco Evo QRT at £475, Recaro Pole Position with ABE at £866.25, Cobra Nogaro Circuit Carbon at £2182.50, and Recaro Pole Position Carbon with ABE at £2346.75 are the premium options for a Patrol built properly for off road competition.

The Cobra Monaco Pro FIA at £235 is the practical starting point. If you want a lighter fibreglass shell, the OMP Champ-R at £318 is well judged for the money. For a Patrol built properly for off road competition, the Recaro Pole Position Carbon with ABE at £2346.75 gives the strongest support here.

Reclining sport seats

The Sparco R100 Martini Racing at £291.66 is the accessible starting point. The Sparco GT at £421.58 sits a step up. The Cobra Misano Anniversary at £1374.17, also in Spec 2, and the Sparco SPX at £2346.49 are the top of the range.

Harnesses

Harnesses need a roll cage or harness barA 4-point, 5-point or 6-point harness with separate shoulder straps needs proper attachment points above and behind the seat. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar before using anything above a 3-point belt.

The TRS Clubman 3-point bolt-in at £80 and 4-point clip-in at £100 both use the standard seat belt anchor points and do not need a cage. For 4-point competition use, the TRS Magnum 4-point FIA at £205 and the Takata Drift II at £229 are the step up.

For 6-point harnesses, the cage goes in first. The TRS Magnum 6-point Superlite FIA at £245, the Takata Drift III at £270, and the Schroth Profi 3×2 at £370.01 all suit a caged Patrol going to off road competition.

If you are not fitting a cage, the TRS Clubman 3-point bolt-in at £80 is the straightforward upgrade using the standard anchor points. For a caged Patrol going to off road competition, the TRS Magnum 6-point Superlite FIA at £245 is the practical choice, with the Schroth Profi 3x2 at £370.01 for the top of the range.

Common questions

No. This subframe is confirmed for the Y60, built up to 1997. The Y61 and Y62 that followed need different parts, ask us to confirm.

The reclining sport seats keep more factory comfort. The FIA competition buckets are built for off road competition or overland work rather than everyday driving.

No. A 6-point harness needs anchor points above and behind the seat for the shoulder straps. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar first.

A competition bucket holds you better on rough ground but is harder to live with day to day. A reclining seat keeps more factory comfort while still improving on the standard seat.

More help

Confirm your Patrol is the Y60, up to 1997, before ordering the subframe. Cameron works through the seat, subframe and car combination together.
