Jeep Wrangler TJ bucket seat guide
TJ, 1997 to 2006
The TJ ran from 1997 to 2006. Jeep put coil springs on it in place of the YJ’s leaves, which transformed articulation off road while keeping the solid axles, and it is the last Wrangler with the round headlights. The JK that followed takes a different bracket, so order on the generation.
What a seat needs to do here is give you support on ground that throws the vehicle about, not sit you lower. The Planted bracket below is confirmed for this generation.

Mounting
The Planted Technology Seat Bracket (part SB130) at £185.50 is confirmed for the TJ, 1997 to 2006, and bolts to the factory floor mounting points.
For seats that use their own runners rather than a vehicle-specific bracket, the Sparco Seat Sliding Runner Kit at £34.95, the Recaro Double Locking Sliding Runners at £139.12 and the Cobra Premium Sliding Runners at £70 give fore-aft adjustment. Check the seat listing for which runner it needs.
If your TJ has seen off-road use, get the carpet up and check the metal underneath before fitting anything, given the age of these cars.

Reclining sport seats
The Auto Style Type AK at £235 and Sparco R100 Martini Racing at £291.66 are the accessible starting points. The Auto Style Type JW at £245.60, Type RK at £257.50, and Sparco GT at £421.58 sit a step up.
The Recaro Cross Sportster CS at £1323 is a premium reclining seat with strong lateral support. The Cobra Misano Anniversary at £1374.17 and Misano Anniversary Spec 2 at £1374.17 sit at the top, and the Sparco SPX at £2346.49 is the outright top of the range.

For genuinely strong lateral hold when the ground gets rough, the Recaro Cross Sportster CS at £1323 is well judged for the money. If you want the outright top of the range, the Sparco SPX at £2346.49 is as far as this list goes.
Harnesses
Harnesses need a roll cage or harness barA 4-point, 5-point or 6-point harness with separate shoulder straps needs proper attachment points above and behind the seat. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar before using anything above a 3-point belt.
The TRS Clubman 3-point bolt-in at £80 and 4-point clip-in at £100 both use the standard seat belt anchor points and do not need a cage. For 4-point use, the TRS Magnum 4-point FIA at £205 and the Takata Drift II at £229 are the step up.
For 6-point harnesses, the cage goes in first. The TRS Magnum 6-point Superlite FIA at £245, the Takata Drift III at £270, and the Schroth Profi 3×2 at £370.01 all suit a caged TJ going to serious off-road events or competition.

Common questions
How do I know if my Wrangler is the TJ?
The TJ ran from 1997 to 2006 and has round headlights, the last Wrangler generation to keep them. If you are not sure, send us the registration and we will confirm.
Will this fit the LJ Unlimited?
The LJ shares the TJ platform with a longer wheelbase. Ask us to confirm before ordering if you have the LJ.
Does this fit the JK that came after?
No. The JK takes a different Planted bracket, part SB382. Check which generation you have before ordering.
Can I run a 6-point harness without a roll cage?
No. A 6-point harness needs anchor points above and behind the seat for the shoulder straps. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar first. A 3-point bolt-in harness uses the standard seat belt anchor points and does not need a cage.
