Fiat Panda Mk2 bucket seat guide

2003 to 2012, including 100HP and 4x4

Fitting a competition seat to a Panda is an unusual thing to do, and the people who do it usually know exactly why. The Mk2 has a genuine following in grassroots motorsport: it is cheap, it is light, and nobody minds what happens to it. The 100HP hot hatch version is a genuinely entertaining small car and the one most commonly built.

Two things matter more here than on most cars. The Panda is tall and narrow, so while the standing seating position means a bucket seat drops you usefully, the shell has to clear the door card and the handbrake, and a seat that fits the frame can still be wrong for the cabin. It is also very light, so a heavy steel-shelled seat gives back a real slice of the car’s advantage. Both are worth weighing before choosing a shell.

This guide covers the Panda Mk2 specifically. Fiat’s Panda has run across generations that share very little, and this guide is written for the second generation built from 2003 to 2012.

Mounting

The Sparco direct-fit sub-frame (14816, part 00499014) at £82.52 is confirmed for the Panda Mk2 by name and brings the floor up to the 345mm x 271mm base-mount pattern, taking Sparco, OMP and Corbeau seats.

The OMP direct-fit sub-frame (15783, part HC867) at £102.92 covers both the 345mm x 271mm pattern and the larger 405mm x 290mm OMP pattern, adding Recaro compatibility. OMP’s own listing is explicit that the Panda has run across several generations that share very little, and recommends confirming your registration before ordering. Send us the reg and we will confirm the part.

Cobra seats sit on their own bolt pattern, 291mm x 330mm, different from the shared 345mm x 271mm spacing that Sparco, OMP and Corbeau seats use. A Cobra seat needs the multi-hole side mounts rather than the standard direct-fit sub-frame. The Endurance Motorsport steel M8 side mounts (232620) at £29 and the Cobra Premium sliding runners (120664) at £70 cover this route.

For side mount generally, the Sparco FIA steel brackets (13876) carry their own FIA approval. Add the Sparco sliding runner kit (14036) for fore-aft adjustment.

Confirm which Panda generation you haveThe Panda has run across generations that share very little between them. This guide is for the Mk2, built 2003 to 2012. Send us the registration before ordering the OMP sub-frame or a roll cage to confirm you have the right part.

Competition bucket seats

Weight is worth weighing here more than on most cars. The OMP Champ-R at £318 and Mirco RTS-2 3D at £334 are both lighter fibreglass FIA shells, side mount. The Sparco Sprint at £210 and Cobra Monaco Pro at £235 are dual-mount options at a similar price, the Cobra offering a steel shell and the intrusion resistance that comes with it, at the cost of extra weight the Panda feels more than most cars.

The Endurance Motorsport Club Sport at £209.79 and Auto Style Type RR at £254.60 are accessible track day options rather than full competition seats. The OMP WRC-R at £438, Sabelt GT3 at £431, Sparco Grid Q at £365 and Corbeau Sprint X System 1 at £575 sit at the upper end, all FIA-rated shells with strong lateral support for a 100HP built for regular track use.

For a Panda built to be quick rather than heavy, the OMP Champ-R at £318 is the lighter FIA-rated fibreglass option, worth the extra over the steel-shelled seats given how much this car feels its weight. The Sparco Sprint at £210 is the more affordable dual-mount FIA seat if the build needs the budget elsewhere. For a 100HP getting a proper track build, the Sabelt GT3 at £431 gives the lateral support the chassis can use. Talk to us with the seat dimensions and confirm which sub-frame suits your generation before ordering.

Reclining sport seats

Reclining sport seats are base mount on the Panda Mk2, fitting the Sparco or OMP sub-frames above. The Auto Style range covers the accessible end: the Type DS at £218.60, the Type AK at £235, and the Type JW at £245.60.

The Sparco R100 Martini Racing at £291.66 and Sparco R333 at £374.56 give a step up in lateral support. The Sparco R500 Fabric at £274.16 sits between the two. The Corbeau Sportline RRS at £830 and the SVR Vinyl at £850, both pairs, are the top of the Corbeau recliner range here.

At the premium end, the Cobra Daytona at £499.17 and Cobra Le Mans at £515.83 are both fibreglass recliners with strong lateral support, and the Cobra Sprint X System 1 seat above shows what the Corbeau range can reach at the top. Remember Cobra seats need the multi-hole side mounts rather than the standard sub-frame.

The Auto Style Type AK at £235 is the sensible road-car starting point, a clear step up from the factory seat that does not overload a light car. The Sparco R500 Fabric at £274.16 is worth considering as a mid-point if the R100 range feels basic. For a 100HP that sees regular track days, the Sparco R333 at £374.56 gives noticeably more lateral hold. If you are set on a Cobra recliner, remember to budget for the multi-hole side mounts rather than the standard sub-frame.

Roll cages

Check the Panda generation on any cageOMP list separate cages for the 1st Series (earlier Mk1) and 2nd Series (this Mk2). Sparco's Fiat Panda 4x4 cage is specific to the Mk1 (1988-2003) and does not fit the Mk2. All cages below are confirmed for the 2nd Series or the 100HP, both of which are Mk2.

The OMP 2nd Series 4-door cage (18799) at £834 is confirmed for “4 doors” on the Mk2. It is an AB/100 series cage in FE45 steel, supplied in two halves in bare metal, ready to be painted. The OMP 2nd Series 4×4 cage (18800) at £1740 is the equivalent for the 4×4 version, with additional rear hoop reinforcement and extended door bars over the standard cage.

The Sparco Panda 100HP multipoint weld-in cage (19335) at £1368.71 attaches to the body shell including the front suspension pick-up points, built to exceed FIA minimum requirements by up to 150 percent, with all shell reinforcement plates included. As a weld-in cage it is the more involved installation, suited to a 100HP being built properly for competition.

Harnesses

Harnesses need a roll cage or harness barA 4-point, 5-point or 6-point harness with separate shoulder straps needs proper attachment points above and behind the seat. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar before using anything above a 3-point belt.

The TRS Clubman 3-point bolt-in at £80 and 4-point clip-in at £100 both use the standard seat belt anchor points and do not need a cage. For 4-point competition use, the TRS Magnum 4-point FIA at £205 and the Takata Drift II at £229 are the step up.

For 6-point harnesses, the cage goes in first. The TRS Magnum 6-point Superlite FIA at £245, the Takata Drift III at £270, and the Schroth Profi 3×2 at £370 all suit a caged Panda Mk2 going to competition or serious track days.

Common questions

No. The Panda has run across generations that share very little between them. This guide is for the Mk2, built 2003 to 2012, including the 100HP and 4×4. If you have an earlier Panda, send us the registration and we will point you to the correct parts.

Cobra seats use their own bolt pattern, 291mm x 330mm, which is different from the 345mm x 271mm spacing shared by Sparco, OMP and Corbeau seats. A Cobra seat needs multi-hole side mounts rather than the standard direct-fit sub-frame used by the other brands.

Yes, more than on most cars in this range. The Panda is very light to begin with, so a heavy steel-shelled seat gives back a real slice of the car’s advantage. If the build is about lap times rather than durability, the lighter fibreglass FIA shells are worth prioritising.

Yes, the Sparco Panda 100HP multipoint weld-in cage. It is a more involved installation than a bolt-in cage, suited to a 100HP being properly built for competition rather than a light track day modification.

Only if you have the earlier Mk1 4×4, built 1988 to 2003. It does not fit the Mk2 4×4 covered in this guide. For a Mk2 4×4, the OMP 2nd Series 4×4 cage is the correct option; no Sparco-branded 4×4 cage currently exists for the Mk2.

No. A 6-point harness needs anchor points above and behind the seat for the shoulder straps. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar first. A 3-point bolt-in harness uses the standard seat belt anchor points and does not need a cage.
