Auto Style sport seats

Auto Style is the brand we sell to people who want a proper sport seat in the car this weekend without the fitting bill that usually comes with one. Seats start at £165 and 77 of the 90 lines come with the sliding runners in the box. That one detail is what separates this brand from everything else on the site, and you need it in your head before you compare an Auto Style to a Sparco or a Mirco on price alone.

The short version

Everywhere else, the seat is the start of the bill. Shell, then a subframe, then side mounts, then runners. An Auto Style seat arrives with the runners on it and bolts to a published bolt pattern, so a £179.50 Zandvoort is a £179.50 job rather than a £179.50 seat.

01 / The brand

A distributor that makes its own seats

AutoStyle work out of Groningen in the Netherlands and are one of the bigger car accessory names in the Benelux, with over 50,000 lines on the shelf. They distribute Sparco, Simoni Racing, K&N, Koni and H&R, and they make their own seats, which is the part we stock.

That background shows in how the seats are put together. They are built to go into an ordinary car quickly rather than to satisfy a scrutineer, so the runners are included, the bolt pattern is published, and most of the range is base mount. Steel frames on the reclining seats, fibreglass on the BS buckets.

Nothing here is FIA and nothing here pretends to be. What it is, is the fastest and cheapest honest way to get a sport seat into a Saxo, a Corsa, a Clio, an E30 or a Leon, which is why the range shows up as an option under more than thirty different cars on this site.

Runners in the box

77 of the 90 lines ship as seat and sliders. The Type BS5 listing puts it plainly, free universal sliding runners.

Road and Track throughout

No FIA anywhere in the range, by design. Road cars, show cars, fast road and track days.

Six groups, and they barely overlap

Decide reclining or fixed back first. Everything after that is trim, width and how much you want to spend.

01Reclining seats

The biggest part of the range at 54 lines, £214.50 to £387.50. Steel framed, base mount, runners included, and they still have slots for a 4 point harness. The default choice for a road car.

02Fixed back buckets

Steel framed buckets from £165, base mount, runners included. Zandvoort, K5, K12 and Classic. Cheapest way into a proper bucket seat that we sell.

03BS fibreglass buckets

The serious looking end, £225 to £308.60. GRP shells, side mount, and the only Auto Style seats that need frames and side mounts like every other brand.

04Classic and Retro

Seventeen lines styled for older cars, hot rods and buggies. Retro and Retro II reclining at £302.50 to £315, Classic buckets from £165, some with headrests.

Most of the popular seats are sold two at a time as well, £321.50 to £617.50. Worth checking before you put two singles in the basket if you are doing both sides.

03 / How to choose

Four questions, and none of them are about price

The range is close enough on money that the decision is genuinely about the car and the use.

1

Reclining or fixed back?

Reclining tilts, is far easier to climb in and out of, and is the right answer for a car you actually drive on the road. It still has slots for a 4 point harness, so you are not giving that up. A fixed back bucket holds you properly under load and looks the part, which suits a track day car or a show build, but you will feel it on a long journey. Auto Style do plenty of both and they cost about the same.

2

Base mount or side mount?

Sixty five of these seats are base mount, which means they bolt down through the bottom on the pattern below and the runners are already there. Fourteen are side mount, and those are the fibreglass BS shells, which need a subframe and side mounts like a Sparco or a Cobra would. If the point of buying Auto Style was to avoid that bill, stay on the base mount side of the range.

3

Check the bolt pattern against what you have

Auto Style publish it, which almost nobody does. 345mm x 280mm covers the established models, the BS5, Type C, Eco, RS6-II, Classic and Retro. 405mm x 280mm covers the newer AK, RK, GT Tartan and VGR. If you are fitting to a car with nothing in it yet the runners sort you out either way, but if you have an existing subframe or you are swapping a seat, measure before you order.

4

How big is the driver?

Most of the reclining seats are listed for all sizes and they are the roomier half of the range. On the buckets it matters more. The K12 comes in two widths, Wide for a 32 to 36 inch waist at £205.50 and Small for a 28 to 32 at £186.50, and the K5 is the other narrow one. Being honest about the BS5, we would put it at up to around 13 stone rather than beyond.

People put an Auto Style seat next to a Sparco and say it is half the price, and it is, but that is not really the comparison. The Sparco is a shell. By the time you have added a subframe, side mounts and runners you are three hundred quid past the sticker. The Auto Style turns up with the runners on it and bolts to the floor. For a road car, a show car or somebody doing their first track day, that is the whole point of the brand, and I would rather sell someone a Zandvoort that goes in on Saturday than a shell that sits in the garage until payday.

The last column is the one to read carefully. The BS fibreglass seats are the ones people point at because they look the most serious, and they are the only Auto Style seats that do not come ready to fit. If you want the look and the low bill, one of the steel framed buckets does both. If you want the GRP shell, price the frames in before you decide.

13 / Questions

Common questions about Auto Style seats

Who are Auto Style?

AutoStyle are a car accessories specialist based in Groningen in the Netherlands, with over 50,000 lines. They are a distributor for Sparco, Simoni Racing, K&N, Koni and H&R among others, and they also make their own range of sport seats, which is what we carry. We hold 90 Auto Style lines.

Do Auto Style seats come with runners?

Yes, on 77 of the 90 lines, and that is the reason to buy this brand. The seat arrives with universal sliding runners already, so it bolts in and slides like a factory seat. Everywhere else on this site the seat is the start of the bill and the frame, the side mounts and the runners come after it.

What do the 345mm and 405mm bolt patterns mean?

It is the spacing of the mounting holes underneath the seat, and Auto Style publish it on every reclining seat. 345mm x 280mm covers 40 of the range, including the BS5, Type C, Eco, RS6-II, Classic and Retro. 405mm x 280mm covers 15, which is the newer AK, RK, GT Tartan and VGR family. If you already have a subframe or you are reusing a fitting, that number tells you whether it will bolt straight up.

Are any Auto Style seats FIA approved?

No. Everything in the range is listed Road and Track. That is the right approval for a road car, a show car, a fast road build or a track day, and it is not the right one for a scrutineered competition car. If you need FIA 8855-1999 the Mirco range starts at £297 and is the natural next step up.

Reclining or fixed back?

Reclining is the larger half of the range, 54 seats, and it is the sensible choice for a car you drive on the road, because it tilts, it is easier to get in and out of, and it still has harness slots for a 4 point belt. Fixed back buckets are 29 seats, of which 14 are the fibreglass BS shells, and they hold you harder and look more serious, which suits a track day car or a show build. Nothing about the price forces the decision, both start around the same money.

Which is your cheapest seat?

The Type Classic Fabric bucket at £165, then the Type K5 at £175 and the Zandvoort at £179.50. The Zandvoort is our best selling Auto Style seat by a long way at 112 sales. All three come with the runners, so £179.50 is genuinely the price of getting a bucket seat into the car rather than the price of the shell.

Which one fits a smaller or larger driver?

The K12 is sold in two widths, K12 Wide at £205.50 for a 32 to 36 inch waist and K12 Small at £186.50 for a 28 to 32, which is a rare thing at this money. The K5 is the other narrow one. Most of the reclining seats are listed for all sizes, though we would say the BS5 suits up to around 13 stone rather than beyond it.

Can I use one as an office chair?

Yes, and Auto Style build them for it. There are seven office seats, from £300 for the Type T up to £369.50 for the Type Pro, on a proper gas lift base with castors. There is also an office seat base on its own at £104.58 if you already have a seat you want to convert, which is the cheaper route if you have a spare.

Come and see us

Tell us the car and we will tell you what bolts in

Auto Style seats are listed as an option under more than thirty different cars on this site, so there is a good chance yours is already covered and the seat will go in with nothing else bought. Ring with the car and whether you want reclining or fixed back and we will narrow it to two. Ask for Cameron.
