Audi A6 and S6 C7 bucket seat guide
C7, 2011 to 2018, saloon and Avant, including the S6 and RS6
Nobody buys a C7 to go racing. They buy it because it is a fast, quiet, comfortable car that covers ground, and the seat question usually arrives later, either because the standard bolsters have collapsed on a high mileage one or because an S6 is being used somewhere the standard seat was never designed for.
Both of those have the same answer as far as the mounting goes, because there is one frame for this chassis and it takes either kind of seat. Where they differ is what you should buy on top of it, and that is worth reading properly, because this page has both proper FIA competition shells and a handful of seats that carry no published approval at all.
- One frame covers this car, the Planted SB348 at 185.50 pounds per seat
- It is listed for the A6 and the S6 C7, built 2011 to 2018
- The seat mounts to the frame directly or on side mounts, so both routes are open
- Planted do not publish a bolt pattern, so ask us before pairing a base mount seat
- Three seats here publish no approval at all, neither FIA nor road and track
- Those three are also the cheapest on the page, from 209.79 pounds
- All three unrated seats are listed as not HANS compatible
- The Corbeau Sprint X System 5 XL covers a 36in to 40in waist, the widest here
- Reclining seats run from 235 pounds to just over 1500
- Nothing car specific exists beyond the frame, no A6 harness and no A6 cage
One frame, two ways onto it
A frame bolts to the factory seat mounting points in place of the standard runners. A standard floor needs no drilling, and the seat sits lower than the seat and runners you took out. On a C7 that drop is worth having, because the standard seat is set high and soft, which is exactly what you want on a motorway and exactly what you do not want anywhere else.
Planted are the maker covering this chassis and they make one bracket, part number SB348 at 185.50 pounds, listed for the A6 and the S6 C7 from 2011 to 2018. It is priced per seat, so a pair means ordering it twice, and it comes as an RHD driver side or an RHD passenger side.
Their listing says the seat mounts to the frame either directly or on side mounts, so both routes are open and you are not forced down one path. Beyond the frame, nothing is made specifically for this car.
◫
Frame plus a base mount seat
The route most C7 owners take, because the car is usually still doing everything it always did. A reclining seat or a base mountable bucket picks up the four holes in its own base and bolts to the frame. You keep the recline and the car stays civilised for passengers. One thing to settle first: Planted do not publish the bolt pattern for SB348, so send us the seat you want to pair with it and we will get the number confirmed before you buy either part.
☰
Frame plus side mounts
The competition route and the lower of the two. The frame bolts to the floor, a pair of side mounts picks up the sides of the shell, and the seat is fixed where you set it. On a car that is often somebody's only car, that is a real imposition, so think about it before committing. The Endurance multi point set is 39 pounds, the Sparco set 75 pounds with its own FIA approval and a listing covering OMP, Cobra and Sabelt shells.
The fitting kit for a C7
The frame is the one part that has to match the car. SB348 is the C7, built 2011 to 2018. If you are not sure which generation you have, the C7 is the one with the large upright hexagonal grille and the stepped LED strip along the bottom of the headlight. The C6 before it has a softer nose and no LED signature.
Everything else is a choice. Side mounts are only needed if the seat is side mount, and a runner only if you want to keep the fore and aft adjustment. On a car that still does long distances and gets driven by more than one person, the runner is usually money well spent.
- Planted Audi A6/S6 C7 bracket, part number SB348, 185.50 pounds per seat, 2011 to 2018
- Endurance Motorsport multi point M8 side mounts, 39 pounds, FIA approved and road and track
- Sparco FIA steel side mounts at 75 pounds, which also fit OMP, Cobra and Sabelt shells
- Sparco seat sliding runner kit at 34.95 pounds per seat to keep fore and aft adjustment
- Cobra premium sliding runners at 70 pounds if you want the better runner under a Cobra seat
- Planted list the frame as RHD driver side or RHD passenger side, so pick the side on each line

Three seats on this page carry no published approvalThe Endurance Motorsport Club Sport at 209.79 pounds, the Auto Style Type RR at 254.60 pounds and the Endurance Motorsport Circuit at 296.10 pounds are the three cheapest seats here, and none of them publishes an approval. That is not the same as road and track rated, which is a stated classification, and it is not FIA. It means the maker has not published one and we are not going to invent one on their behalf. All three are also listed as not HANS compatible. If the car is only ever going to be driven on the road they are a perfectly reasonable way to get a supportive seat for the money. If it is going anywhere that a scrutineer will look at the car, or you are running a head restraint, buy one of the FIA 8855-1999 shells instead. Ask us if you are unsure which side of that line your plans fall on.
Bucket seats that fit
The Cobra Monaco Pro at 235 pounds is the only bucket here listed for base mount as well as side mount, so it is the one that goes on the frame with nothing added. It is also the cheapest FIA rated shell on the page, which makes it the obvious starting point for most people.
Below it in price sit the three seats with no published approval, covered in the note above. They are listed side mount, all heights and 32in to 36in waist, and all three are not HANS compatible. Worth knowing exactly what you are buying rather than reading the price alone.
Among the FIA shells, size splits them usefully. The Corbeau Sprint X System 5 XL at 800 pounds covers 36in to 40in waist and all heights, which makes it the roomiest thing here. The OMP ARS-R at 428 pounds covers 36in to 38in. The rest are largely 32in to 36in. On height, the Mirco RS2 3D, the Sabelt GT3, the OMP ARS-R and the Corbeau Sprint X are listed for all heights, while the Cobra Monaco Pro, the OMP Champ-R and the OMP RT are under 6ft.
The Sparco Evo QRT at 475 pounds and the Sparco Evo L QRT at 510 pounds carry no driver height or waist figure on their listings, so ask us and we will check either against your build before you commit.

Reclining seats
On a C7 this is where most people should be looking. The car is quiet and quick and covers distance better than almost anything else at the money, and a fixed back shell throws all of that away for support you probably do not need on the road. A recliner bolts to the frame with no side mounts involved and keeps the car doing its job. Everything below is base mount and carries a road and track rating.
The range runs from 235 pounds to just over 1500. The Auto Style Type AK and the Sparco R100 Vinyl at 235 pounds are the sensible end. The Cobra Misano Anniversary at 1374.17 pounds and the Sparco SPR at 1549.12 pounds are the other, and in a car this refined they are easier to justify than they would be in something noisier.
Bolt patterns split them four ways. The Sparco R100 Vinyl, the R500 Fabric, the R333 and the SPR are 345mm x 271mm. The Auto Style Type JW is 345mm x 280mm and the Type AK is 405mm x 280mm. The Recaro Expert S is 405mm x 290mm. The Cobra Misano and the Cobra Misano Anniversary Spec 2 are 291mm x 330mm, and the Corbeau PSR pair is listed for 291mm x 330mm or 345mm x 271mm. Since Planted do not publish their pattern, send us the pair you are thinking of and we will confirm it before you order.

Our picks, not the whole listBe honest about what the car is for
The C7 is the one where the wrong seat does the most damage, because the car is very good at something specific and a competition shell removes most of it. If the car is a daily that occasionally gets driven hard, a reclining seat on the frame is almost always the right answer and the cheapest one. If it is genuinely going on track and you want a fixed back shell, buy one with a published FIA approval rather than one of the unrated seats. Tell us which it is, along with your height and waist, and Cameron will work out the fit and the best combination for the car and cut this page to two or three options.
Harnesses
There is no car specific harness for the C7, so you are fitting a universal belt and the mounting is yours to work out. Do that part first.
The shoulder straps want a fixing behind the seat at roughly shoulder height that can take the load in a shunt, and the factory rear belt mounts were not put there for that job. A big saloon gives you a bulkhead behind the rear seats and plenty of structure. If yours is the Avant the load area changes the answer, so tell us which body you have and send a photo of the area behind your front seats.
The Sparco Competition H-3 at 185 pounds is the cheapest current FIA belt here, a 6 point steel set rated FIA 8853-2016 and listed HANS friendly. The Schroth Profi 3×2 and the TRS Magnum 6 Point Superlite are the same standard at 370.01 and 245 pounds, and the TRS Magnum 4 Point is FIA 8854-1998. Each carries a date that ends its competition life whether the belt has been worn or not.
Be realistic about whether a harness suits this car at all. On a C7 that is mostly a road car, a well fitted seat on a proper frame does the useful part of the job, and a harness with nowhere sensible to anchor is worse than the standard belt. If you run a head restraint, both Takatas and both Clubman belts are listed as not HANS compatible.

Our recommendationsSort the mounting before you buy the belts
With no belt made for this car and no cage made for it either, the mounting decides which harness makes sense, and on a C7 it sometimes decides that a harness is not the right buy yet. Tell us whether the car is road, trackday or competition, whether the body is a saloon or an Avant, whether a head restraint is going on, and what is behind the seats at the moment. We will tell you what the shoulder straps can bolt to and whether it is worth doing.
Mounting the shoulder straps
Nobody makes a vehicle specific roll cage or harness bar for the A6 in any generation, and we would rather say so than point you at something built for a different Audi.
What that leaves is a fabricated harness bar made to fit the car, which is the usual answer if all you need is a proper anchorage for the shoulder straps, and a much smaller job than a cage. On a C7 that is also the more proportionate answer, because these are still valuable cars and a weld in cage is a large and permanent thing to do to one.
Ask us and we will tell you what we have seen work on this shell. If a cage does go in, read the current regulations for your class first, keep any sign off paperwork with the logbook, pad any tube within reach of a helmet, and tell your insurer, because a cage is a notifiable modification.
What fits what
Everything below fits an A6 or S6 C7 on the Planted SB348, with side mounts where the mounting column says side mount. Where a cell says not listed, the maker does not publish that figure and we would sooner say so than fill it in for them. That applies to the approval column too, and on this page it matters.

Common questions
Which fitting kit do I need for an Audi A6 C7?
The Planted SB348 at 185.50 pounds per seat, listed for the A6 and the S6 C7 built 2011 to 2018. It bolts to the factory seat mounting points in place of the standard runners, so a standard floor needs no drilling. It is priced per seat with a driver side or passenger side option, so changing both front seats means two lines with the right side picked on each. It is the only frame made for this chassis.
Why do some seats have no approval listed?
Because the maker has not published one, and we are not going to fill in a rating on their behalf. The Endurance Club Sport, the Endurance Circuit and the Auto Style Type RR are the three on this page in that position. It is not the same as road and track rated, which is a stated classification. For a car that stays on the road they are a reasonable way to get a supportive seat for the money. For anything a scrutineer will look at, buy a seat with a published FIA 8855-1999 approval.
Are the unrated seats safe?
They are seats sold for road use and they are built to do that job. What we can tell you is what is published, and what is published is that these three carry no approval and are not HANS compatible. An FIA approval means the seat passed a specific test to a written standard, and where that matters to you, buy a seat that has one. Where it does not, the cheaper seats do what most people want from them. If you are not sure which applies, tell us what the car is for and we will say so plainly.
What bolt pattern does the Planted frame use?
Planted do not publish one for SB348. That is the honest answer and we would rather give it than repeat a guess. It matters because the reclining seats on this page sit on five different patterns, from 291mm x 330mm to 405mm x 290mm. If you are pairing a base mount seat with this frame, send us both part numbers and we will get the pattern confirmed by Planted before you buy either. If you are using side mounts it does not apply.
Should I fit a bucket seat to a C7 at all?
It depends what has gone wrong. If the standard bolsters have collapsed on a high mileage car, a reclining sport seat on the frame fixes it and keeps everything the car is good at. If you are taking an S6 on track and finding the standard seat lets you slide about, a proper bucket is the answer. What we would steer you away from is fitting a fixed back competition shell to a car that spends its life on the motorway, because you will lose more than you gain.
Can I fit a fixed back bucket straight to the frame?
The Planted listing says the seat mounts to the frame either directly or on side mounts, so both routes are open. Of the buckets here only the Cobra Monaco Pro is listed for base mount as well as side mount, so that is the one seat that goes straight on. Everything else needs a set of side mounts, which start at 39 pounds.
Which seat suits a wider driver?
The Corbeau Sprint X System 5 XL at 800 pounds covers 36in to 40in waist and is listed for all heights, which makes it the roomiest seat here. The OMP ARS-R covers 36in to 38in. Among the reclining seats, the Corbeau PSR pair covers 32in to 38in and the Recaro Expert S, the Auto Style seats and the Sparco SPR are listed as all sizes suitable. The C7 is wide inside, so there is usually room for the larger shell.
Will I keep fore and aft adjustment?
Only if you add a runner. Side mounts on their own hold the seat in one place, which sits lower and suits a car one person drives. The Sparco sliding runner kit at 34.95 pounds is the usual answer under a base mounted seat, and the Cobra premium runners at 70 pounds are the better made option under a Cobra seat. Neither is FIA approved, so treat both as road and trackday parts. On a car that still does long distances, the adjustment is worth the money.
Is there a harness made for this car?
No. There is no car specific belt for any generation of A6, so you are fitting a universal harness and working out the mounting yourself. The saloon is a good shape for it, with a bulkhead behind the rear seats and plenty of structure. The Avant changes the answer. Send us a photo of the area behind your front seats and we will tell you what will work, including whether it is worth doing at all on your car.
Is there a roll cage for the A6?
No, and we would rather say so than point you at something built for a different car. If you need an anchorage for the shoulder straps, a fabricated harness bar made to fit is the usual answer and a much smaller job than a cage. On a C7 that is also the more proportionate route, because these are still valuable cars and a weld in cage is permanent.
Can I keep the standard seat belt?
Usually yes. The original buckle stays where it is while the seat around it moves, so once the seat is bolted down make sure you can reach the buckle one handed and that the shell is not fouling the stalk. Sort it while the trim is still out and it costs you two minutes instead of an evening.
Does this cover the S6 and RS6?
The Planted frame is listed for the A6 and the S6 C7 together and the floor is the same car, so this page covers the S6. The RS6 of this generation is the same C7 shell. The Avant is the same chassis too. If you want the fit on a specific car confirmed, send us the registration and we will check it.
How do I know I have a C7?
The C7 was built from 2011 to 2018. It has a large upright hexagonal single frame grille and angular headlights with a stepped LED daytime running strip along the lower edge. The C6 before it has a softer nose and no LED signature. The frames are chassis specific and do not swap, so if there is any doubt send us the registration.
