Top 5 reclining seat choices for your Lamborghini Gallardo, including our fitting guide

A Gallardo that has done fifteen years of road miles usually still has its original seats bolted in, and by now the bolsters have gone soft and the cushion sits an inch or two lower than it left the factory. The cabin was tight to start with, low roof, high sills, not much room between the seat back and the rear bulkhead, so a worn factory seat gets harder to live with the longer you own the car. Owners come to us wanting more support through the shoulders for a track day, or simply a seat that has not sagged after two decades of use, and a base mount recliner on the right frame answers both.

A recliner keeps the backrest adjustable and the runners doing their job, which matters if the car still does the odd motorway run alongside a trackday. Get the frame right and the seat drops into the same floor mounting points as the seat it replaces, no drilling, no compromise on the parts of the car that still need to work like a road car.

  • Two frame routes in stock for the Gallardo: Cobra Seats direct fit subframes and Planted Technology brackets
  • The Cobra subframe matches the 291mm pattern used across the whole Cobra recliner range
  • The Planted bracket takes any pattern in this guide with the right runner, keeping Sparco and Recaro seats on the table
  • Every seat in this guide is listed 4 point harness compatible

The Gallardo. The frame you pick decides which of the five seats below can go in it.

The two frame routes into a Gallardo

We stock a fitting frame for the Gallardo from two of the three brands we rate, and between them they cover every seat in this guide. A frame is the vehicle specific base that bolts to the floor mounting points in place of the standard seat runners. The seat then mounts to the frame, either directly or through runners, and it decides your final seat height. The Gallardo’s low central tunnel and narrow footwell make a vehicle specific frame worth the extra cost over anything universal, since it is built to clear both. Which frame you buy decides which seats you can run, so this choice comes first.

291

Cobra subframe

Part COBZMUC6327, £231.66 inc VAT a side. Choose driver or passenger at no extra cost, or add the pair option to order both sides in one go at £463.32 inc VAT total. Matches the 291mm x 330mm pattern used across the whole Cobra recliner range.

ANY

Planted bracket

Part SB244, £224.95 inc VAT a side, RHD driver and passenger listed as separate products. A flat steel base that takes any pattern in this guide, paired with runners matching the seat you pick.

The number that decides it

Every reclining seat we sell bolts down through a base mount pattern, and on the Gallardo there are three that matter. The Cobra Daytona and Cobra Le Mans use 291mm x 330mm, exactly what the Cobra subframe is built around. The Sparco R500 uses 345mm x 271mm and the Recaro Sportster CS uses 405mm x 290mm, and neither lines up with the Cobra subframe. The Corbeau Sportline RRS Low Base is drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, so it bolts straight to the Cobra subframe as easily as it does the Planted bracket. For the Sparco and the Recaro, the Planted bracket with the matching runner is the only route we sell for this car.

Pick the seat firstThen buy the frame route that matches its pattern. The Corbeau keeps both routes open. If you are leaning toward the Sparco or the Recaro, go straight for the Planted bracket with the matching runner. Ask us before you order if you are not sure which pattern a seat you already own uses.

Cobra Daytona: the everyday value pick

The Daytona is the seat we point Gallardo owners at first, because it does the job without asking a Lamborghini sized question of your budget. It is a slim seat, so the door card clearance stays generous in a cabin where every inch already feels accounted for, and the recline mechanism sits low enough that the little headroom left under this roofline barely changes. Cobra list it for both waist ranges we see across our customers and for drivers over and under six foot, which makes it one of the few seats in this guide that is genuinely hard to be the wrong shape for.

  • From £599.00 inc VAT, the cheapest way into this guide
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, drivers over and under six foot
  • Spacer fabric as standard, wide range of trim upgrades to order
  • Harness slots, listed 4 point compatible
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern: Cobra subframe or Planted bracket
  • From £499.17 Excl. VAT Select options This product has multiple variants. The options may be chosen on the product page

Cobra Le Mans: the support pick

  • From £515.83 Excl. VAT Select options This product has multiple variants. The options may be chosen on the product page

The Le Mans steps up the bolstering at the shoulders and thighs without losing the everyday comfort of the Daytona, which is why it is the seat we sell most to Gallardo owners doing regular track evenings alongside road use. It is built to order through Cobra’s Signature range, spacer fabric, vinyl or leather, contrast stitching, heating or lumbar if you want them, so you are not stuck with whatever trim is on the shelf. Both seats share the same 291mm mount, so switching between them later does not mean a new frame.

  • From £619.00 inc VAT, built to order in your trim
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, drivers over and under six foot
  • Signature trim options, plus optional heating and lumbar
  • Harness slots, listed 4 point compatible
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern: Cobra subframe or Planted bracket

Corbeau Sportline RRS Low Base: keeps every route open

The RRS Low Base is the seat to pick if you have not settled on a frame yet, or if the Gallardo’s low roofline is already eating into your headroom before a seat goes anywhere near it. It is drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, so it bolts straight to the Cobra subframe as easily as it does the Planted bracket, and the Low Base version buys back some of the clearance a taller driver loses under this car’s roof. The backrest carries Corbeau’s sculpted shape rather than the flatter profile of the Daytona, worth knowing if you have sat in both before.

  • £498.00 inc VAT
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • Listed 4 point compatible
  • Low Base version, useful for taller drivers under the Gallardo's roofline
  • Drilled for both patterns: fits the Cobra subframe and the Planted bracket
  • From £415.00 Excl. VAT Select options This product has multiple variants. The options may be chosen on the product page

Sparco R500: a different shape via the Planted bracket

  • £274.16 Excl. VAT Add to basket
  • £290.83 Excl. VAT Add to basket

The R500 brings a different shape into the mix for owners who have tried a Cobra seat and want something firmer through the base. Dual density foam in the seat and backrest holds up better on a long motorway run than a single density seat, and it comes in fabric or the easy clean Sky vinyl. Its 345mm mount does not match the Cobra subframe, so it only goes on with the Planted bracket, the trade-off for bringing a second brand’s fit into a car that otherwise runs on the 291mm pattern.

  • From £329.00 inc VAT in fabric, £349.00 in Sky vinyl
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • Dual density foam in base and backrest
  • Harness slots, listed 4 point compatible
  • 345mm x 271mm pattern: Planted bracket only on this car

Recaro Sportster CS: the one people ask about

This is the seat people ask about even when they were not planning to spend this much. The Sportster CS holds you through the shoulders and thighs without the aggressive squeeze of a full bucket, so it is as comfortable on the drive to the circuit as it is once you get there, and Recaro list it as suitable for all waist sizes and all heights, unusual for a seat with this much support. It is a 405mm base mount, wider than anything else in this guide, so it goes on the Planted bracket with a Recaro-compatible runner rather than the Cobra subframe.

  • From £1,581.30 inc VAT, £2,154.60 with heating
  • All waist sizes, all heights
  • Leather and suede trim, heated option available
  • Harness slots, listed 4 point compatible
  • 405mm x 290mm pattern: Planted bracket with a Recaro-compatible runner
  • From £1,795.50 Excl. VAT Select options This product has multiple variants. The options may be chosen on the product page
  • From £1,317.75 Excl. VAT Select options This product has multiple variants. The options may be chosen on the product page

Getting it bolted down

Both frames bolt to the Gallardo’s factory seat mounting points, so there is no drilling on a standard floor. Torque the floor bolts properly and check seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat often sits the buckle somewhere new. Between seat and frame go the sliding runners, and they follow the same pattern logic as the frames. One ordering quirk worth knowing: the Cobra subframe is priced per side with the pair as an add-on option at checkout, while the Planted bracket lists driver and passenger as two separate products, so check which pricing structure you are looking at before you order for two seats.

Common questions

Do I need to drill the floor of my Gallardo?

Not on a standard floor. Both frames bolt to the factory seat mounting points. Torque the floor bolts properly and check the seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat often sits the buckle somewhere new.

Can I put a Sparco or Recaro seat on the Cobra subframe?

No. The Cobra subframe is built around the 291mm x 330mm pattern, and the Sparco R500 and Recaro Sportster CS use different patterns again. The Corbeau RRS Low Base is the exception, drilled for both 291mm and 345mm. If you want the Sparco or the Recaro, go straight for the Planted bracket with the matching runner.

Will these seats take a 4 point harness?

Every seat in this guide is listed by its manufacturer as 4 point compatible, with belt slots in the backrest. If you are planning harnesses, tell us when you order and we will make sure the whole setup works together.

Why is the Cobra subframe priced per side?

It is listed as one side by default, driver or passenger at no extra cost, with a pair option that adds the second side to the same order. The Planted bracket works differently again, driver and passenger listed as separate products. Check which one you are looking at before you order for two seats.

Would a fixed bucket seat suit my Gallardo better?

Some owners want a fixed-back seat purely for the extra headroom and lower mounting position, especially if you are tall or wear a helmet on track. We have covered that route separately in our guide on which bucket seats fit a Gallardo. Everything in this guide keeps the recline function and the day to day comfort a fixed bucket gives up.

What I would actually buy

If it were my money: the Daytona on the Cobra subframe for a road car on a budget, because it covers most of what a Gallardo needs for the least outlay. The RRS Low Base if you have not settled on a frame yet or the roofline is already tight on headroom, since it keeps both routes open. The Le Mans on the Cobra subframe if track evenings are a regular thing and you want the seat built to your own trim. And the Sportster CS if you have already decided the seat matters more than the price, it is the one people keep for years rather than swap out.

Every combination above uses parts that bolt straight to the Gallardo’s factory mounting points. Working out this exact combination for a given car and driver is Cameron’s job at GSM, so if you are between two of these seats, or between sizes, get in touch with your height and waist measurement and we will talk it through before you spend anything.
