The Sabelt Steel Caterham/Kit Car 4 Point Harness, part number 118S433SD4F, is a bolt-in 4-point competition harness approved to FIA 8854-1998. Shoulder and lap webbing are 3 inch. Aircraft-type buckle. Not HANS compatible. Available in black, blue and red.

Designed for Caterham and kit car chassis mounting geometry. These cars have specific rear anchor positions that differ from a standard saloon; a harness rated for Caterham/kit car application is configured around those points.

The 3-inch webbing is the distinguishing specification compared to the standard Caterham 4-point (185531), which uses 2-inch webbing. Wider webbing spreads load over a greater contact area on the shoulder in an impact. The bolt-in installation in this version anchors to fixed rear chassis points rather than clipping around a bar, giving a more consistent strap angle once installed.

FIA 8854-1998 is the 4-point standard. Check your class regulations: some Caterham championships now require 6-point under FIA 8853-2016. Not HANS compatible.

The Steel series designation places this in the entry tier of the Sabelt competition harness range. At £182 it sits above the 2-inch Caterham 4-point (185531, £95). If you want a 6-point for the car, the Steel Race/Rally 3×3 (CFCI1335S633S, £205) is the next step, though not Caterham-specific in its geometry.

How long does an FIA harness last?

What does the strap width mean for me?
This is a 3 inch shoulder to 3 inch lap harness. The shoulder width choice interacts with whether you run a HANS device, and our guide on 3 inch versus 2 inch harnesses explains which to pick and why.

Do I need a HANS-specific harness?
No. Only 6-point FIA harnesses work with a HANS device: not 4-point belts, and not road harnesses, however good they are at their own job. This 4-point harness is for use without a head and neck device; if you run or plan a HANS, look at the 6-point FIA HANS-pattern belts in the range and we will spec the right one.

What does it mount to?
A harness needs proper anchor points: a harness bar, cage, or the car’s designed mounting points, plus a seat with the right slots, and as a 4-point it needs each point anchored correctly. Tell us the car and seat and we will confirm the mounting plan before you order.
