The two seats share the same basic purpose. Their useful difference is fit: the standard shell supports smaller and medium drivers, while the XL creates space for a broader build.
Our 5ft 10in, 32in-waist showroom driver sat more securely in the standard Pro Series. In the XL his shoulders and body had spare movement. That example shows why a size label cannot replace a test.
Trouser size does not show hip shape, thigh size, torso length or where your shoulders meet the shell. Seat dimensions are a useful filter, not a substitute for sitting in it.
The right seat holds without squeezing
Check the hips, lower ribs, thighs and shoulders separately. The standard seat should not pinch a broader driver, and the XL should not leave a slimmer driver sliding between the bolsters. Sit for long enough to find pressure points.
An XL shell uses the car’s space as well
Measure the base and shoulder area against the tunnel, door, cage and handbrake. Include side mounts and runners in the mock-up. Moving the seat inboard to clear a door can put the driver off the steering column and pedals.
Confirm the current version and approval
Check the label and Corbeau’s current drawing for the individual seat. Match approved side supports where required and plan every belt opening and anchorage. Trim choice does not change the need for a correct shell and restraint installation.
Standard for secure support; XL for needed room
Choose the standard Pro Series when the shoulders and pelvis sit correctly inside it. Move to the XL when the standard creates real pressure or prevents a natural seated position. If both feel wrong, use a different shell rather than forcing this model family.
Pro Series sizes questions
Is the larger Pro Series XL automatically more comfortable?▾
No. Extra room helps only when the driver needs it. Too much space reduces lateral support and can put the shoulders below or inside the wrong part of the shell.
Can I rely on the published dimensions?▾
Use them to rule out obvious problems, then measure the actual cockpit and sit in the seat. Padding and body shape change how the internal space feels.
Will the same side mounts fit both seats?▾
Check the current seat drawing, mounting pattern, approved supports and vehicle kit. Similar-looking shells do not guarantee an identical installation.
Should I buy the seat before planning the harness?▾
No. Seat openings, driver position, belt route, anchorages and any FHR use need planning together.
