The Trak Racer email we kept was from a driver of 6ft 3 and around 120kg, upgrading off the Trak Racer recline seat he had raced for a year and eyeing a Sparco shell for the long stints. It is the classic Trak Racer situation: the rig is sorted, the brackets mostly came in the box, and the one decision left is the seat itself.
Trak Racer do more of the mounting homework than most rig brands, which is to their credit and it changes what this page needs to be. Less about brackets, more about which shell or recliner deserves to go on them, in which size, at what price. That is our half of the job, so here it is done properly.

Two frame families, one seat story
Trak Racer build two kinds of frame and it pays to know which is under you. The TR8 Pro is their steel tube classic, 2 inch tubing with the seat brackets and 130mm of fore and aft travel built in. The TR120 and TR160 are aluminium extrusion, 120×40 and 160×40 profiles, and the current versions include their slider rails. Both families end at the same place: a mounting interface waiting for a proper seat.

The two ways a seat goes on
The two routes, drawn end on and not to scale. Trak Racer’s included bucket brackets are route A parts; their slider rails and adjustable bracket set are route B parts. The seat is the piece they leave to you.
Route A is the fixed back shell, and on a TR8 Pro the brackets for it are already in your garage, because Trak Racer put them in the box for most fibreglass bucket seats. Check yours against the diagram below before ordering: the shells we sell carry two M8 holes each side at 290mm, and if your brackets drill for that, the job is the shell and an hour. On the extrusion rigs our steel side mounts bolt to the rails the usual way.
Route B is the recliner, and here Trak Racer have quietly done you a favour twice: the current TR120 and TR160 include slider rails, and Sparco recliners carry a 345mm x 271mm base that sits inside the 138 to 350mm window Trak Racer publish for their own adjustable bracket set. With that set out of stock until late August on their site, our runners at £78.00 do the same job from stock.

The hardware we add to theirs
On a TR120 or TR160 a bucket seat needs side mounts, and three of ours cover it. The QMS universal steel mounts at £31.80 are the value pick, the Endurance multi point set from £46.80 adds hole positions for height and reach, and the Sparco FIA long side mounts at £58.74 carry the longest slots. All three drill for the 290mm M8 pattern in the diagram, and they arrive in the same box as the seat, checked against the shell before dispatch.

Pick the seat by your build
Back to the 6ft 3, 120kg driver this page opened with, because his shortlist is the table. At that build the Sparco Evo XL is the shell built for the job, the Pro ADV adds head support for the over-6ft frame, and the Mirco RTX-7 carries an FIA badge at a price the sim versions cannot embarrass. The sim QRT range saves money exactly where a rig lets you: same shapes, no homologation paperwork.

The QRT-R stays Garreth’s keeper for hour-long stints, and the Sparco GP gives a proper formula position on the lower rigs, with its own steel mounts at £63.60 ordered alongside because the universal brackets above do not fit it.

The recliner route, upgraded properly
Moving up from a Trak Racer recline seat does not have to mean a fixed shell. The Sparco R100 at £282.00 on the twin runner kit at £78.00 is £360.00 all in, holds better than any gaming-style recliner, and still folds and slides for the household. The R500 at £328.99 deepens the bolster on the same idea.
For the setup where only the most premium recliner will do, the top of this row does not change: the Sparco SPR at £1,858.94 puts a recline mechanism on a moulded fibreglass shell, and the SPX from £2,815.79 is the first carbon fibre recliner Sparco sold to the public, Italian leather with an Alcantara centre, around 12kg. On a TR160 with a direct drive and an ultrawide, Garreth’s view is the SPX finishes the build. All four carry Sparco’s 345mm x 271mm base pattern, inside Trak Racer’s own bracket window and square on our runners.

Common questions
Will the TR8 Pro’s included brackets take a Sparco shell?
Trak Racer say the included brackets suit most fibreglass bucket seats, and the Sparco and Mirco shells on this page all carry the standard two M8 holes each side at 290mm. Measure your brackets against that pattern before ordering, and if anything does not line up our steel mounts are the £31.80 insurance.
I am 6ft 3 and heavy. Which seat, honestly?
The exact question that opens this page. The Evo XL is the shell sized for over 6ft and a 36 to 40 inch waist, and the Pro ADV adds head support at the same height band. If the waist tape says more than 40 inches, ring us before ordering and we will check the RTX-7 and the XL shell measurements against you rather than guess.
Does the Sparco R100 fit Trak Racer’s adjustable bracket set?
Trak Racer publish a 138 to 350mm bottom mount window for that set and the R100’s base is 345mm wide, so it sits inside their stated range. Their set is on back order until late August on their own site; our runner kit does the same job from stock at £78.00.
Do I need an FIA seat for a sim rig?
No. The Sparco sim range is the same shells without the homologation, at a saving. An out-of-date FIA seat is also a perfectly good rig seat, so ask about ex-display and date-expired stock before paying full FIA money.
Can I move the seat between a TR8 Pro and a TR160 later?
The shell moves with you, because both frames end at the same seat interface. The TR8 Pro uses its included brackets, the TR160 takes our side mounts on its rails, and the shell’s 290mm M8 holes serve both. Buy the seat once, upgrade the rig whenever.
Which of your seats matches the Trak Racer look?
The black shells with red stitching do it naturally. The Mirco RTX-7 comes in colour options if you want the red carried further, and the Grid Q keeps it all black. Bring a photo of the rig to the showroom and we will stand shells next to it.
