Top 5 reclining seat choices for your SEAT Toledo Mk2, including our fitting guide

The Toledo Mk2 runs on Volkswagen Group’s PQ34 platform, the same floor as the Golf Mk4 and Bora. For anyone fitting aftermarket seats this is useful, because the mounting point layout is identical and the fitting data from the Golf Mk4 world transfers here almost exactly. The body is bigger than a Golf, which means more interior volume, and drivers who have found the Golf Mk4 tight at seat level often get a better result in the Toledo without trying any harder.

The factory seats are reasonable on a stock car, but the lateral bolsters soften over two decades of use and the driving position sits higher than the 1.8T chassis really deserves. Most people arrive at the counter wanting either a replacement after the originals have given up, or something with enough shoulder grip to stay planted through a fast corner. Either way, one frame covers the whole guide.

  • One frame route for this car: Cobra direct-fit subframe, runner included
  • All five seats use the same 291mm bolt pattern route
  • Priced per seat position, two needed for a pair
  • Bolts to the factory mounting points, no drilling on a standard floor

The SEAT Toledo Mk2. One Cobra subframe route, and it fits every seat in this guide.

The frame route into a Toledo Mk2

One frame in this guide and it covers all five seats: the Cobra direct-fit subframe for the Toledo Mk2. It picks up the PQ34 floor’s standard four-point mounting layout and includes the sliding runner in the price, so you are buying the frame, the runner, and the seat height drop in one product. Priced per seat position, so a pair means two frames in the basket.

Corbeau seats in this guide are drilled for both 291mm and 345mm patterns. They bolt straight to the Cobra subframe at the 291mm side without any adaption. Cobra seats use the 291mm pattern only, same route. There is no drilling on a standard floor; the subframe replaces the OEM runners that were there already.

Part 14493, £231.66 inc VAT a side. Runner included. Suits Cobra and Corbeau recliners with a 291mm base. Tell Cobra your seat at checkout.

The number that decides it

Every base-mount recliner bolts down through a fixed hole spacing, and on this car there is one spacing in play: the Cobra subframe is built around 291mm x 330mm. Cobra recliners use that exact pattern. Corbeau recliners are drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, which is why they sit on this frame just as well as a Cobra seat does. What does not fit here is anything on the 345mm-only or 405mm-only pattern, so Sparco and Auto Style seats are out until there is a Planted bracket or Sparco subframe listed for this car.

Runner includedThe Cobra subframe for this car includes the sliding runner. The runner that comes with it is the 291mm pattern, which covers all five seats in this guide. No second runner purchase needed.

Corbeau Sportline RRS: the best all-rounder

The RRS is the seat Cameron reaches for first when someone describes a Toledo with occasional track duty. It is drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, so it sits straight on the Cobra subframe without any adaption, and the integrated headrest is practical for a daily driver in a way the SVR’s open shell is not. Vinyl trim is easy to keep clean, the bolster shape is firm enough to hold you through fast corners without feeling aggressive on a long run, and the black stitching keeps things tidy without being flashy.

The RRS is also available in a heated variant and with white stitching if either matters to you. Listed 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights.

  • £984 inc VAT for the pair
  • 32 to 38in waist, all heights
  • Integrated headrest, vinyl, black stitching
  • 4 point harness compatible
  • 291mm and 345mm patterns: bolts straight to the Cobra subframe

Corbeau PSR: the value starting point

The PSR is the cheapest seat in this guide that actually holds you in place under cornering loads. It is worth saying that plainly, because the step between a factory Toledo seat and a PSR is larger than the price difference suggests. Cloth trim rather than vinyl, which feels nicer against your back on a long motorway run, and the optional heated seat and inflatable lumbar can be added at the point of order if you want them.

If you are replacing a collapsed pair on a budget, this is the seat. Dual-drilled base, so it uses the Cobra subframe at the 291mm side the same as the RRS above. 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights.

  • £558 inc VAT for the pair
  • Cloth trim, heated seats and lumbar available at order
  • 32 to 38in waist, all heights
  • 4 point harness compatible
  • Double-locking runner upgrade available if you need the seat fixed forward

Corbeau SVR: for regular circuit use

The SVR has a deeper, tighter bolster at the shoulder and thigh than the RRS. On a track day that holds you properly mid-corner and lets your arms concentrate on steering rather than bracing. There is no integrated headrest, which makes it easier to get in and out in a helmet but less comfortable for a passenger on the daily drive. It is the right seat if the Toledo sees regular circuits rather than the occasional drive-in day.

Same dual-drilled base as the RRS and PSR, same Cobra subframe route. If you know the SVR is the one you want, it is not a difficult decision; if you are not sure, the RRS is the safer all-round choice. 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights.

  • £1,020 inc VAT for the pair
  • Deeper bolsters than the RRS, suited to circuit use
  • No head support (easier helmet access on track)
  • 32 to 38in waist, all heights
  • 4 point harness compatible

Cobra Daytona: the Cobra starting point

The Daytona is the entry point into Cobra’s reclining range, and entry-level for Cobra means a steel-framed seat at 13.5kg with genuine lateral support rather than decorative bolsters. The backrest is taller than the Corbeau options at 865mm and wider at the shoulder, which suits the Toledo’s larger saloon cabin well. Priced per seat, not as a pair, so budget for two if you are doing the full interior.

The backrest recline is firm and stays at the angle you set it, which is not always true of cheaper alternatives. It fits only on the Cobra 291mm x 330mm pattern, which on this car means the Cobra subframe. That is the only route available here, but it is the same direct fit as the Corbeau options. 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights.

  • £599 inc VAT each
  • Height 865mm, base width 530mm, weight 13.5kg
  • 32 to 38in waist, all heights
  • Steel frame construction, 4 point harness compatible
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern: Cobra subframe only

Cobra Misano Anniversary: one seat, done properly

The Misano Anniversary is for someone who has decided on the car and wants to spec one seat rather than replace it again in five years. Built to order through Cobra’s full trim programme: any fabric, colour or stitching combination, with heating and lumbar as factory options rather than retrofits. The backrest is 885mm tall and 590mm at the shoulder, which is notably larger than the Daytona, and at 11.5kg it is actually lighter despite the bigger shell.

Lead time is 4 to 6 weeks from order, so this is not the seat for someone who needs the car back together this weekend. It is the seat for someone who knows what they want and is prepared to wait for it. 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights. Same 291mm Cobra pattern, same subframe route as the Daytona.

  • £1,649 inc VAT each, 4 to 6 week lead time
  • Height 885mm, base width 520mm, weight 11.5kg
  • Full Cobra trim programme, heated seats and lumbar available
  • 32 to 38in waist, all heights
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern, steel frame construction

Getting it bolted down

The Cobra subframe bolts to the Toledo Mk2’s factory mounting points, no drilling required. Between the floor and the seat goes the sliding runner, and on this car it is included with each frame purchase, so the frame price covers everything from the floor bolt to the seat rail. One frame per seat, two frames for a pair.

All five seats in this guide share the same 291mm pattern that the included runner is built around. There is no separate runner product to find for any of them. Check seat belt buckle clearance before your first drive: a sport seat drops the seating position and on VW Group floors this can affect inertia reel travel on the B-pillar belt.

The Toledo Mk2 was produced from 1998 to 2004. The frame 14493 is specific to the Mk2 body on the PQ34 floor. If your car is a first-generation Toledo (1991 to 1999, the larger Santana-derived platform), or a later fourth-generation Toledo on the Leon platform, this frame does not apply. Ask us and we will check which frame is available for your chassis before you order.

Common questions

Do I need to drill the floor of my Toledo Mk2?

No. The Cobra subframe bolts to the factory mounting points. After fitting, check seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a lowered seat position can affect inertia reel travel on the B-pillar belt on VW Group floors.

Will the Corbeau seats fit the Cobra frame, or do I need different runners?

Corbeau seats in this guide are drilled for both 291mm and 345mm. The Cobra subframe for this car uses the 291mm pattern, which matches the 291mm side of the Corbeau base directly. The runner included with the frame is all you need.

Can I fit a Sparco or Auto Style seat on the Cobra subframe?

No. The Cobra subframe is built around the 291mm pattern. Sparco recliners use 345mm only, and Auto Style recliners use 405mm x 280mm. Neither pattern lines up with this frame. We do not currently stock a Sparco subframe or Planted bracket for the Toledo Mk2, so those brands are not an option on this car at present.

Will these seats take a 4 point harness?

Every seat in this guide is listed by its manufacturer as 4 point compatible, with belt slots in the backrest. If you are planning harnesses, let us know at the point of order and we will confirm the full setup works with this car's cage or harness bar arrangement.

Why is the frame priced per side?

The Cobra subframe is listed per seat position: one product for the driver side, one for the passenger side. A pair of seats means two frames in the basket. Each frame includes the sliding runner, so there is no extra runner purchase for any seat in this guide.

What I would actually buy

Cameron would put the Corbeau RRS in a road Toledo with the odd track day: the integrated headrest is practical for a daily driver, it covers both bolt patterns so it uses the Cobra frame directly, and the vinyl cleans up after a circuit without making the seat uncomfortable for a passenger. If the car does regular circuits, the SVR instead, because the tighter bolster is genuinely noticeable once you are pushing hard.

The Daytona is the right call if you want a Cobra seat and a simpler choice. It is not the most adjustable or the most specable seat in the guide, but it does everything a track-day Toledo needs and it will still be in good shape in ten years. The Misano Anniversary is for someone who knows what they want and is ordering once rather than twice.

If you are between two of these seats, or if you are not certain which seat position frames you need, ring us on 0115 9893488. Cameron will work out the fitment details and confirm exactly what goes in the basket before you spend anything.
