Push a Mk3 Leon hard into a roundabout and the chassis has more grip than the seat can hold onto. That is the story with almost every Cupra and FR that comes through the workshop: the front end turns in sharper than the factory seat can keep up with, and by the second lap of a track day your body is doing more work than the tyres are. A recliner on the right frame fixes that, and it drops your hip point at the same time, which on its own changes how the car feels through fast direction changes.
Most owners come to us either after a track day exposed the factory bolsters for what they are, or because the original seat has gone baggy after a decade of daily use. Either way the fix is the same: a base-mount recliner bolted to a frame built for this car, not a universal bracket that half fits.

We stock a fitting frame for the Leon Mk3 from two of the three brands we rate, and between them they cover every seat in this guide. A frame is the vehicle specific base that bolts to the floor in place of the standard runners, and it sets your final seat height. The Leon Mk3 shares its floor plan with the VW Golf Mk7, which is why fitment on both frame routes is a known quantity rather than a guess. Which frame you buy decides which seats you can run, so this choice comes first.
Part 00499070-Seat Leon Mk3, £93.60 inc VAT a side. Sold individually, RHD driver and passenger listed separately. Pairs with 345mm runners and takes the R100, the R500 and the Corbeau SVR.
Part SB029-4892-Seat Leon Mk3, £224.95 inc VAT a side, RHD driver and passenger. A flat base that takes any seat in this guide, paired with runners matching that seat's pattern.
Every reclining seat we sell bolts down through a base mount pattern, and on this car three different ones turn up across the five picks below. Sparco recliners use 345mm x 271mm, which is what the Sparco subframe is built around. Auto Style and Recaro use wider patterns again, 405mm x 280mm and 405mm x 290mm, and neither lines up with the Sparco subframe. The Corbeau SVR is drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, which is why it fits the Sparco subframe directly as well as the Planted bracket. For the Auto Style and the Recaro, the Planted bracket with the matching runner is the only route we sell for this car.
| Seat | Bolt pattern | Sparco subframe | Planted bracket |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sparco R100 | 345 x 271 | Fits | Fits |
| Sparco R500 | 345 x 271 | Fits | Fits |
| Corbeau SVR | 291 or 345 | Fits | Fits |
| Auto Style Type AK | 405 x 280 | No | Fits |
| Recaro Sportster CS | 405 x 290 | No | Fits |
The R100 is the recliner we sell more of than any other, and on a hatch this shape it earns that spot honestly. It is a compact seat, so it does not fight the door card when the recline lever comes back, and it leaves budget spare for the frame itself. Sparco list it as suitable for all waist sizes and for drivers over and under six foot, which matches what we see across the counter: it is a hard seat to be the wrong shape for. The flat, open base also makes it the easiest of the five to climb in and out of on a daily driver.
The R500 is the R100’s bigger brother. Taller backrest, more shoulder support, and dual density foam in the base and backrest that holds its shape better on a motorway run to the circuit. It keeps the same open base as the R100, so day to day it is just as easy to live with, and it comes in fabric or the easy-clean Sky vinyl. Step up to it if you want more upper body support for the odd track day but are not ready for the grip of a deep bolstered seat.
The SVR is the seat to pick if you are not sure which frame you want yet. It is drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, so it bolts straight to the Sparco subframe as easily as it does the Planted bracket, and Corbeau sell it as a pair by default, which suits most people since one order does both sides of the car. The backrest sits taller and smoother than the R500’s, closer to a genuine bucket profile without giving up the recline mechanism, and the vinyl trim wipes down easily if the Leon is doing double duty as a daily.
The Type AK is where we point people who want a proper base mount recliner without the frame budget stretching too. It ships with its own sliders in the box, so there is nothing extra to add once you have the Planted bracket sorted, and Auto Style list it as suitable for all waist sizes and all heights. It will not hold you through a fast direction change the way the Recaro does, but for a Leon that is mostly commuting with the odd spirited back road, it is honest value. The Type RK is the same seat with a different colour and stitching range if the AK’s options do not suit your interior.
The Sportster CS is the seat I put in a Leon when the owner wants the car built around them properly and the budget allows it. It holds you firmly through the shoulders and thighs without the aggressive bolster squeeze of a full bucket, which means it is still comfortable on the drive to the circuit as well as on it. Recaro list it as suitable for all waist sizes and all heights, unusual for a seat that supports this well, and the heated version earns its keep if the Leon is still on daily duty through a British winter. It is a 405mm base mount, wider than either Sparco pattern, so it goes on the Planted bracket with a Recaro-compatible runner rather than the Sparco subframe.
Both frames bolt to the Leon’s factory seat mounting points, so there is no drilling on a standard floor. Torque the floor bolts properly and check seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat often sits the buckle somewhere new. Between seat and frame go the sliding runners, and they follow the same pattern logic as the frames. One ordering quirk worth knowing: both frames are listed per side, RHD driver and RHD passenger, so a pair means adding two to the basket.
| Your seat | Runners to order | Works on |
|---|---|---|
| Sparco R100 or R500 | Sparco sliding runner kit, £78.00 a pair | Sparco subframe or Planted bracket |
| Corbeau SVR | Corbeau 345mm sliding runners, £117.60 a pair | Sparco subframe or Planted bracket |
| Auto Style Type AK or RK | Included with the seat, no separate runner needed | Planted bracket only |
| Recaro Sportster CS | Endurance Recaro-compatible runner kit, £95.04 a seat | Planted bracket only |
The Mk3 Leon, Seat’s 5F platform, ran from 2012 to 2020 across the hatchback, ST estate and Cupra. If your Leon is a 2020 plate or newer, it is the Mk4 rather than the Mk3, and neither frame in this guide applies since the floor mounting points changed with the new platform. Check your V5 if you are not certain which generation you have. We have a separate page on the fitting frames available for the Leon 5F, worth a read if you want the fuller picture on why the Golf Mk7 crossover matters here.

Not on a standard floor. Both frames bolt to the factory seat mounting points. Torque the floor bolts properly and check the seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat often sits the buckle somewhere new.
No. The Sparco subframe is built around the 345mm x 271mm pattern, and the Auto Style Type AK and Recaro Sportster CS use wider patterns again. The Corbeau SVR is the exception, drilled for both 291mm and 345mm. If you want the Auto Style or the Recaro, go straight for the Planted bracket with the matching runner.
Every seat in this guide is listed by its manufacturer as 4 point compatible, with belt slots in the backrest. If you are planning harnesses, tell us when you order and we will make sure the whole setup works together.
Both are listed per seat position, with RHD driver and passenger side options. A pair of seats means two frames in the basket. If anything on a listing is unclear, ask before ordering.
The Mk3, Seat's 5F platform, ran from 2012 to 2020. If your car is a 2020 registration or later, it is more likely the Mk4, and neither frame in this guide will fit, since the floor mounting points are different. Check your V5 if you are not sure which generation you have.
For most road cars a reclining seat is the better everyday choice, since you keep the adjustment and the comfort on longer drives. If the Leon is doing serious track days, a fixed bucket holds you tighter through the corners at the cost of everyday comfort. We fitted a customer's Leon Cupra with a Sparco bucket seat and subframes, worth a look if you are weighing up the two: read the build.
If it were my money: the R100 on the Sparco frame for a road car on a budget, because it does most of the job for the least outlay and almost nobody is the wrong shape for it. The SVR if you have not settled on a frame route yet, since a pair keeps every option open and does both sides of the car in one order. The Type AK on the Planted bracket if you want a base mount seat without the frame cost stacking up, given it ships with its own sliders. And if the Leon is a Cupra that sees regular track time and the budget stretches, the Sportster CS is the one people keep for years rather than swap out.
Every combination above uses parts that bolt straight to the Leon’s factory mounting points. If you are between two of these seats, or between sizes, get in touch with your height and waist measurement and we will talk it through before you spend anything.
