Top 5 reclining seat choices for your Porsche 924, including our fitting guide

The 924 seats were never meant to be the headline act. Porsche was selling the chassis and the weight distribution: the rear transaxle puts this car close to 50/50, which is exactly why it handles the way it does, and why getting the driver positioned correctly matters more than it would on something with a less balanced layout. Forty-odd years on, the seats are usually the worst thing in the car. The foam has gone flat, the bolsters have worn down, and what was acceptable in 1979 is genuinely poor by 2026. You can still use this car hard. The factory seats just need replacing first.

Two frame routes into the 924 cabin. Cobra make direct-fit subframes split by production date, with the runner included in the price. Corbeau make a single subframe that covers the whole production run from 1976 to 1988, one subframe per seat position, with runners sold separately. Which route suits your car depends mainly on which seat you want, since only Corbeau base-mount seats will go on the Corbeau subframe.

  • Cobra frames split by production date: one for August 1973 to September 1984, a separate one from October 1984
  • Runner included in the Cobra frame price, so one purchase covers the frame and the rail adjustment
  • Corbeau subframe covers the whole production run, 1976 to 1988, add runners separately
  • Every seat in this guide is listed as 4 point harness compatible
  • Check your production date before ordering the Cobra route: the two frames are not interchangeable

The Porsche 924. The frame you pick decides which of the five seats below will fit.

The two frame routes into a Porsche 924

We carry frames for the 924 from Cobra and Corbeau, and between them they cover every seat in this guide. The frame is the car-specific base that replaces the factory seat runners and sets your final seat height. Which frame you buy decides which seats will go on it, so this choice comes before everything else.

The Cobra frames are split by production date, which matters: Porsche changed the 924 floor plan mid-run, and the early and late subframes are not interchangeable. Both are priced the same and both include the runner. If you are not certain which production era your car is, send us the chassis number and we will confirm it before you order.

Cobra subframe

Two listings split by production date. Early cars (August 1973 to September 1984): part COBER0RW327. Later cars (from October 1984): part MR-PO-91-2130. Both are £190 inc VAT each side, runner included. Takes Cobra recliners at the 291mm pattern, and Corbeau recliners which are drilled for both 291mm and 345mm.

CORB

Corbeau subframe

One listing covers the full production run, 1976 to 1988. £294 inc VAT each side. Corbeau base-mount seats only: not for Cobra, Sparco or other brand recliners. Runner not included, add Corbeau 291mm sliding runners separately (£117.60 inc VAT a pair). Order twice, once per seat position.

The number that decides it

Every reclining seat in this guide mounts through a base-mount bolt pattern. The Cobra subframe is built around the 291mm x 330mm pattern, which is what all Cobra recliners use. Corbeau recliners are drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, which is why they fit either frame route on this car. The Corbeau subframe is restricted to Corbeau seats by design: the brand mounts only their own base-mount range on this subframe.

Pick the seat firstThe seat determines your frame route, not the other way round. Corbeau seats keep both routes open. Cobra seats only go on the Cobra subframe. If you have not settled on a seat yet and want to keep options open, start with the Corbeau subframe and a Corbeau recliner. If you want the Daytona, the Stuttgart Tartan or the Misano, you need the Cobra subframe from the outset.

Cobra Daytona: the straightforward choice

The Daytona is the Cobra recliner most people end up with when they want one seat in a classic car and a decision that does not take a week. The shape is traditional enough to sit right in a period cabin: no aggressive bolstering, no awkward angles, just a properly made seat that holds you through a corner without making every drive feel like a track session. It is a 291mm base mount, so it goes straight onto either Cobra subframe with the runner already included in the frame price.

The 924 cockpit is narrow by modern standards. The Daytona is one of the more compact Cobra recliners, which makes it easier to live with in the tighter interior than some of the wider alternatives in the range.

  • £599 inc VAT, Cobra's entry recliner
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern: Cobra subframe only on this car
  • Traditional reclining seat shape, no aggressive side bolsters
  • 4 point harness compatible

Corbeau PSR: two seats for less than one Daytona

The PSR is sold as a pair, which changes the maths considerably. Two Corbeau PSRs cost £558 inc VAT. One Cobra Daytona costs £599. If you are replacing both seats in the 924 and budget is a consideration, the PSR is almost impossible to argue against on value alone.

The seat itself is cloth, which suits a car from this era better than vinyl would anyway. It is drilled for both the 291mm and the 345mm pattern, so it fits both the Cobra and the Corbeau subframe without any adaption. Waist range is 32 to 38 inches, all heights. For a classic daily driver or a road car that sees occasional open track days, this is often where people end up once they have looked at the full options.

  • £558 inc VAT for a pair, both seats in the car
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • 291mm or 345mm pattern: fits both frame routes on this car
  • Cloth trim
  • 4 point harness compatible

Corbeau Sportline RRS Low Base and SVR: two backrest options, one seat family

The RRS Low Base and the SVR are the same seat with a different backrest profile. The RRS has the taller, sculpted backrest with the integrated headrest surround. The SVR cuts that top section shorter and flatter, which works better in a car where roof clearance above the driver is limited. The 924’s fastback roofline is not particularly low at the sill, but if you are over six foot and the standard RRS puts your head against the headlining, the SVR solves that without a second thought.

Both are drilled for the 291mm and 345mm pattern, both fit either frame route, and both come as a pair. The RRS Low Base is £984 inc VAT for the pair, the SVR is £1,020 inc VAT for the pair. Cameron works through the backrest choice with customers fairly regularly when they have the measurements to hand, so get in touch before ordering if you are between the two.

  • RRS Low Base: £984 inc VAT for a pair. SVR: £1,020 inc VAT for a pair
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • 291mm or 345mm pattern: fits both frame routes on this car
  • SVR has the shorter, flatter backrest, better for tighter roof clearance
  • 4 point harness compatible

Cobra Stuttgart Vinyl Tartan: the period-correct pick

The Stuttgart in tartan trim works in a 924 in a way that a plain seat probably would not. The tartan pattern was all over motorsport interior design through the 1970s and 1980s, which is roughly when this car was current. It is not a reproduction or a pastiche: it is Cobra’s own contemporary trim option, but it sits against the original 924 interior materials in a way that plain vinyl or cloth simply does not.

The Stuttgart is also slightly more structured than the Daytona, with a more upright seating position that suits longer drives. The vinyl and tartan combination is easier to clean than cloth, which matters on a car that probably doubles as a summer weekend driver. It is a 291mm mount, so it goes on the Cobra subframe only.

  • £919 inc VAT, Cobra's mid-range recliner
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern: Cobra subframe only on this car
  • Tartan and vinyl trim combination
  • 4 point harness compatible

Cobra Misano Anniversary: for a car that has been properly restored

The Misano Anniversary costs more than the rest of the guide combined. It is also genuinely exceptional, and on a 924 that has had real money spent on it, a late strong example, or one coming out of a full restoration, it makes sense in a way it would not on a daily driver that just needs two seats quickly. Cobra build each one individually, so you are ordering a seat that no one else has ordered in your spec. The leather is proper automotive leather, the stitching and colour options are wide, and lumbar and heating are available if the car goes out year-round.

It is a 291mm mount, so it goes on the Cobra subframe only. At this price point, that is not usually the constraint.

  • £1,649 inc VAT each, built individually to order
  • All waist sizes and heights
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern: Cobra subframe only on this car
  • Proper automotive leather, wide trim and colour choice
  • Optional lumbar and heating

Getting it bolted down

Both the Cobra and Corbeau subframes bolt to the 924’s original floor mounting points without drilling. Torque the floor bolts properly and check the seat belt buckle position before you drive, because a sport seat often moves the buckle somewhere new relative to where the factory seat had it.

The runner is included in the Cobra frame price, so one purchase covers everything between the floor and the seat base. The Corbeau subframe does not include runners: add Corbeau’s 291mm sliding runners (product 214839), which are £117.60 inc VAT for a pair.

One note on production date for the Cobra route: the earlier and later 924s have different floor configurations and the two Cobra frames are not interchangeable. If you are not certain which applies, send us the chassis number before ordering. The Corbeau subframe covers the whole production run and avoids that choice.

Common questions

Do I need to drill the floor of my 924 to fit a reclining seat?

No. Both the Cobra and Corbeau subframes bolt to the original 924 floor mounting points without drilling. Torque the floor bolts properly and check the seat belt buckle position before driving, because a sport seat often moves it relative to the standard position.

What is the difference between the two Cobra frames for the 924?

Porsche changed the 924 floor plan during the production run. The earlier subframe (part COBER0RW327, for cars from August 1973 to September 1984) and the later one (part MR-PO-91-2130, from October 1984) are not interchangeable. If you are not certain which applies to your car, send us the chassis number and we will confirm before you order. The Corbeau subframe covers the whole production run and avoids the choice entirely.

Can Cobra recliners go on the Corbeau subframe?

No. The Corbeau subframe is designed around Corbeau base-mount seats only. If you want the Cobra Daytona, the Stuttgart Vinyl Tartan or the Misano Anniversary, you need the Cobra subframe. The Corbeau PSR, RRS Low Base and SVR fit either subframe.

The Corbeau PSR is sold as a pair. What if I only need one?

If you are replacing both seats in the car, the pair listing is the right one: £558 inc VAT for two seats. If you need a single, ring us on 0115 9893488 and we can arrange it.

Will these seats take a harness?

Every seat in this guide is listed by its manufacturer as 4 point harness compatible, with appropriate belt slots in the backrest. If you are planning a harness alongside the seat, let us know when you order and we will check the full combination works before anything is dispatched.

What I would actually buy

If it were my money, the Daytona would go on most of the cars I see. It fits the period interior, it installs on the Cobra subframe without complication, and it does the job for the majority of how these cars get used. The PSR pair is a serious alternative when both seats are worn out: two Corbeau recliners for less than the price of one Daytona, and they work on either frame route if you later want to change the subframe.

If the 924 has had real money put into it, the Stuttgart Vinyl Tartan or the Misano Anniversary start to make sense. The tartan reads right in a 924 cockpit in a way that plain vinyl would not. The Misano is for a car that is properly finished, the seat a restored 924 deserves, and it will still be looking right long after the rest of the interior has been seen to. Which of the five Cameron would fit depends on the car and the budget, and that conversation is worth having before the order goes in. Ring us on 0115 9893488.
