The Tillett W5 Carbon is the carbon and GRP version of the W5 seat. Same shape and fitments as the GRP model, but with a carbon-reinforced shell. SKU W5-CARBON/GRP. Black.
Road and Track approval. 6-point harness compatible. Side mount and base mount both available. No back frame option on this model. Seat cover options are Dinamica faux suede panels or bare shell.
The main reason to choose carbon over GRP here is weight. Tillett do not publish individual weight figures for every W model, but carbon and GRP construction runs lighter than plain fibreglass across the rest of their range. The exact saving is not confirmed, so if you are buying on weight data, ask us before ordering. The GRP W5 is listed alongside this one for less money if the weight difference is not a factor.
No headrest, like every seat in the W series. The range was designed for single-seaters and formula cockpits where headroom inside the car rules out a standard seat.
Against the W4: both are 6-point harness seats with no homologation. The W4 is available with a back frame and this seat is not. The W4 published weight is around 2 kg without a frame. If you need a back frame option, the W4 is the seat. If not, the W5 Carbon is the lighter choice between the two.
For conventional circuit or road cars where headrest clearance is not a constraint, the B6 in carbon and GRP is the closer comparison in this price range.
Will I fit in this seat?

Is this seat FIA approved?
No, this is a road and track day seat rather than a homologated competition seat. For events that require an FIA seat, look at the FIA-approved shells in the range, and ask us if you are unsure what your series needs.
What do I need to fit it to my car?
This seat takes both base and side mounting, so the fitting stack depends on which route you pick for your car. You will need the car-specific frame, and a sliding runner if you want fore-and-aft adjustment. Does it work with harnesses and a HANS device?
The shell takes 6 point compatible. If you are planning the full seat, harness, and HANS setup, tell us the car and we will spec it end to end.
How do I know it will feel right, not just fit on paper?
Fair question, because makers publish widths and weights, never feel, and two seats with identical numbers can feel nothing alike in the car. We keep the ranges on display in the Nottingham showroom, you are welcome to come and sit in them, and if you cannot get to us, call and describe your build, as the team sit in these seats every day.
