The SW Motorsports MG ZR Super Low Direct Fit Subframe, part SWS-MG-ZR-Mount, is the seat fitting hardware for the MG ZR with a super low seating position built in. The 345mm centre-to-centre bolt pattern on top matches the Sparco mounting standard. Driver and passenger positions are sold separately.
The MG ZR ran from 2001 to 2005, built on the Rover 25 platform. In standard form it was a front-wheel-drive hot hatch that competed with the Peugeot 106 GTI and Clio 172 of the same era. It became a regular in the MG Challenge, Club Endurance and budget one-make series, and continued in circuit use long after production ended due to its light weight and low running costs. In competition trim the ZR came in below 1,000kg; removing the standard seats contributed to that number and remains a standard early step in any ZR motorsport build.
The “super low” rating on this subframe matters specifically for the ZR. The roofline is low for its cabin class, and FIA-rated bucket seats with their tall side bolsters can put a driver’s helmet close to the headlining at standard subframe height. A super low subframe moves the seat down as far as the floor geometry allows. On a car that is likely to be cage-fitted for circuit work, that clearance makes the difference between a legal driving position and a compromise.
At £120, this is the highest-priced subframe in the SW Motorsports range. That reflects the lower geometry involved.
