The second-generation Volkswagen Sharan (7N) launched in 2010 as a genuine seven-seat MPV on Volkswagen Group’s modular transverse platform. The floor dimensions and structure are quite different from the Golf and Passat, and Recaro designed sub-frame 870615 specifically for the Sharan 7N to account for that. The standard Sharan seats were not built with the lumbar support and lateral hold that a driver covering several hundred miles a week in a loaded vehicle needs. The direct-fit frame also keeps the seat at the correct height for the Sharan’s seatbelt geometry and airbag integration, which matters in a vehicle where the seat height differs considerably from a standard passenger car.
