The Mercedes-Benz SEC is a coupe body built on the S-Class of its era. The W116 SEC ran from 1972 to 1980, covering the 280 SE 3.5 and 350 SE, and the W126 SEC ran from 1981 to 1991 across the range from 280 to 560. Both are large, rear-wheel-drive grand tourers that were the most prestigious Mercedes product of their generation. The W126 in particular is considered one of the most durable Mercedes ever built and carries significant collector value.
Part number 854019-1872 covers the W116 and W126 SEC. It attaches at the factory floor fixing positions in the front row without drilling and provides fore-aft running adjustment. The W116 and W126 use related floor geometry from Mercedes’ classic-era rear-wheel-drive platform, which is why Recaro produced a single sub-frame covering both generations.
Fitting a Recaro seat to a W116 or W126 SEC is a period-correct upgrade. Recaro was already an OEM fitment in many European performance cars of the 1970s and 1980s, and the seats were well known in the German market during the W126’s production run. A W126 with Recaro seats is not an anachronism; it is historically plausible.
This sub-frame fits Recaro seats only and covers base-mountable bucket seats and reclining sport seats. Side-mounted competition shells need separate hardware. Pricing is for one frame, one position. Contact us with your Recaro model and chassis variant when ordering.
