The SW0020_E is a FIA approved black steel floor platform for the BMW E46 or E36 at £60.00. It is a different type of product from the side mount brackets in the QMS BMW range, and the distinction matters for how you plan the installation.

A floor platform is a flat base that bolts directly to the factory seat mounting points in the floor, taking the place of the standard seat runner. The bucket seat then mounts onto the platform. The SW0020_E has a large grid of holes providing adjustment both fore-aft and left-to-right, which is more flexibility than you get from angle adjustment on side mounts alone. The platform sets the horizontal position; side mounts fitted to the platform then set the height and angle of the seat.

Like the SW0077 side mount brackets, this platform is designed for the E36 and E46 with the off-centre steering wheel in mind. The multi-hole grid allows the seat to be moved laterally on the platform to centre it behind the wheel, which is the same correction the SW0077 makes through bracket geometry. Two approaches to the same problem; the platform gives more fine-grained adjustment at the cost of more hardware.

At £60.00 this is £7.50 more than the SW0077 steel side mounts. Many E36 and E46 installations use both: the SW0020_E platform to the floor, SW0077 brackets between the platform and the seat. Used together they give precise positioning control. For a straightforward seat swap without extensive fabrication, the SW0077 brackets alone are the simpler solution.

Do I keep fore-and-aft adjustment?
Only with a sliding runner between the frame and the seat, which is a separate part on QMS frames. If more than one person drives the car, budget for the runner. Our guide to sliding runners explains the options and widths.
