Side mounts bolt to the sides of a bucket seat and carry it to the subframe or the floor. Side mounting generally sits you lower than base mounting and gives you some say over the angle of the seat, which is the reason most people move to it. In a car with a cage or a low roof, that inch or two of height is often the whole point.
What the specification means
They are aluminium, 400mm long and 6mm thick, in OMP low profile pattern B, with four mounting holes.
The multiple holes are the useful part. With more than one hole position you can move the seat up or down and tip the back angle without cutting or drilling anything, so you can set the driving position properly rather than accepting whatever a single hole gives you. Get it set before you commit to harness mounting points, because moving the seat afterwards moves your shoulder line.
Aluminium at 6mm keeps the weight down against steel mounts. Steel is the stiffer choice and it is what competition regulations sometimes call for, so if you are building to a class rulebook, check the wording before you order alloy.
One thing to check with us rather than assume: OMP seat rails share their bolt spacing with Sparco at 345mm by 271mm, and OMP frames also carry the wider 405mm by 290mm pattern, which is why an OMP frame will take a Recaro where a Sparco frame will not. Tell us the seat and the car and we will confirm these are the right length before you buy.
