Cobra front door panel upholstery in spacer fabric. Part number RS-FDP-S-3705.
The panel your leg rests against
A driver’s outer thigh sits against the front door panel for the whole journey, and in summer that panel has had the sun on it through the glass for however long the car has been parked.
Spacer fabric is the one material here that does not store that heat. It is an open three dimensional knit, so air moves through rather than being held against the surface, and it comes back to a comfortable temperature far faster than vinyl or leather do.
On a car without air conditioning, or one that lives outside, that is a genuine improvement rather than a specification detail.
What it costs you
It looks modern. In a classic being taken back to original specification it will be the thing that gives the game away, and no amount of colour matching hides it.
It also holds dirt where vinyl sheds it, which on the bottom edge of a door panel is the wrong place to have that weakness. Worth thinking about if the car is used in winter.
The range
Lower price tier, alongside vinyl and vinyl and fabric. The leather, alcantara and leather and alcantara panels cost more.
Matching rear panels are available. Made by Cobra in Berkshire.
