No glare off the door top
The top surface of a front door panel sits in the driver’s lower peripheral vision, right below the side glass. A shiny finish there throws sunlight back up at you, and on a bright day that is a real distraction on the wrong sort of road.
Alcantara does not reflect. It is the same reason it goes on competition dashboards, and it applies just as well to a door top.
It also stays cooler than leather against your outer thigh, which on a door panel that has been in the sun is worth having.
The catch is at the bottom
The lower part of a door panel takes shoe contact every time someone gets in. Alcantara marks and goes shiny there faster than anywhere else in an interior.
If that concerns you, leather and alcantara puts the harder wearing material around the edges and keeps the alcantara on the centre panel, where nothing is scuffing it. It is the same money.
Where it sits
Upper price tier with leather and leather and alcantara, all three level on front panels. Vinyl, vinyl and fabric and spacer fabric cost less.
