Fiat Punto Mk1 bucket seat guide
1993 to 1999, including 55, 60, 75, GT Turbo and Cabriolet
Fiat needed three separate fitting frame part numbers for one model name, and the reason is genuine engineering rather than a marketing reshuffle. The fuel tank sits differently in the Mk1 floor from the later cars, which changes the geometry around the seat mounting points. The Mk1, built 1993 to 1999 and covering the 55, 60, 75, GT Turbo and Cabriolet, needs its own frame.
Both Sparco and OMP list a sub-frame specific to this generation. Get the generation right and the rest of the seat choice follows the same pattern as most small hatchbacks: base mount for the broadest seat range, side mount for competition shells with side tabs.
This guide covers those fitting frames, the seats that suit the GT Turbo and the naturally aspirated versions, and the roll cages confirmed for this generation rather than the later Mk2 or Grande Punto that share the Punto name.
- The Sparco (14811) and OMP (15730) sub-frames are both confirmed for the Fiat Punto Mk1 specifically. The Mk2 uses a different OMP part (HC797) and the Grande Punto a different one again (HC862), because the fuel tank position changes the floor geometry between generations
- Both base mount and side mount are available. Side mount uses the Sparco FIA steel brackets (13876) plus a runner for fore-aft adjustment
- The Sparco roll cage (19331) is confirmed for "09/94 to 08/99, Model: Punto" on the manufacturer spec sheet, matching this generation exactly
- Two Custom Cages weld-in options exist for the Punto, though neither specifies which generation on the listing. Confirm with us before ordering if you want to be certain
- Harnesses above 3-point need a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar
Mounting
The Sparco direct-fit sub-frame (14811, part 00499016) at £72.50 brings the floor up to the 345mm x 271mm base-mount pattern, taking Sparco, OMP and Corbeau seats. It picks up on the floor mounting points Fiat already provided, so the seat load goes into structure designed to carry it rather than anything drilled fresh.
The OMP direct-fit sub-frame (15730, part HC786) at £123.62 covers the first-generation Punto specifically, built 1993 to 1999 across the 55, 60, 75, GT Turbo and Cabriolet variants. It also covers the larger 405mm x 290mm OMP pattern on top of the standard 345mm x 271mm, adding Recaro compatibility. OMP’s own listing explains why three separate frames exist for the Punto name: the Mk2 takes a different part (HC797) and the Grande Punto a third (HC862), because the fuel tank sits differently in the Mk1 floor, changing the mounting geometry.
For side mount, the Sparco FIA steel brackets (13876) carry their own FIA approval. Add the Sparco sliding runner kit (14036) for fore-aft adjustment; it is sold per seat and is non-FIA, fine for road use and track days but not competition.
Three Puntos, three framesThe fuel tank position differs between Punto generations, which changes the seat mounting geometry. This guide is for the Mk1 (1993-1999). If you have a Mk2 or Grande Punto, the sub-frames here will not fit; send us the registration and we will point you to the right one.

Competition bucket seats
Most seats here carry FIA 8855-1999 approval. The Cobra Monaco Pro at £235 is the steel-shelled dual-mount option, with the intrusion resistance a fibreglass shell does not offer. The OMP Champ-R at £318 is a lighter fibreglass alternative, side mount and HANS-compatible.
The Endurance Motorsport Club Sport at £209.79 and Auto Style Type RR at £254.60 are the accessible track day options rather than full competition. The OMP WRC-R at £438, Sabelt GT3 at £431, Sparco Grid Q at £365 and Corbeau Sprint X System 1 at £575 sit at the upper end, all suited to a GT Turbo built for regular track use.

Competition seats for the Punto Mk1Which bucket seat for a Fiat Punto Mk1
For a track day car, the OMP Champ-R at £318 is the lighter FIA-rated option. If the car sees contact, the Cobra Monaco Pro at £235 trades some weight for a steel shell. For a GT Turbo built properly for circuit work, the Sabelt GT3 at £431 or the Corbeau Sprint X System 1 at £575 give more lateral support than the mid-range seats. Talk to us with the seat dimensions and confirm the sub-frame for your generation before ordering.
Reclining sport seats
Reclining sport seats are base mount on the Punto Mk1, fitting the Sparco or OMP sub-frames above. The Auto Style range covers the accessible end: the Type DS at £218.60, the Type AK at £235, and the Type JW at £245.60.
The Sparco R100 Martini Racing at £291.66 and Sparco R333 at £374.56 give a step up in lateral support. The Corbeau Sportline RRS Limited Edition at £500 and the standard Sportline RRB at £770 for a pair round out the Corbeau range at the higher end.
At the top, the Sparco SPR at £1549.12 is a premium reclining seat with a level of finish well beyond the mid-range options, suited to a Punto getting a full interior rebuild.

Reclining seats for the Punto Mk1Which recliner for a Fiat Punto Mk1
The Auto Style Type AK at £235 is the sensible road-car starting point, a clear step up from the factory seat. The Sparco R333 at £374.56 is worth the jump if the car sees regular track use. For a GT Turbo getting a proper interior, the Corbeau Sportline RRS Limited Edition at £500 or the Sparco SPR at £1549.12 are the seats in this guide built to that standard.
Roll cages
Confirm the generation on any cageSparco lists a separate cage for the Grande Punto, and it is not the same part as this one. The Sparco cage below is confirmed by its spec sheet for the Mk1, built 09/94 to 08/99.
The Sparco bolt-in cage (19331) at £750 is confirmed on the manufacturer spec sheet for “09/94 to 08/99, Model: Punto”. It attaches at 6 feet with no other shell attachment, which suits race and rally regulations that do not allow multi-point cages.
Custom Cages list two weld-in options: the International Multipoint T45 kit (18647) at £1395, FIA certified and MSUK compliant, suited to hillclimb, rally, rallycross, sprints, time attack and track days. The CDS cage (18648) at £1101.51 is Custom Cages’ own multipoint design. Neither listing specifies which Punto generation on the product page; confirm with us before ordering if you want to be certain it is right for the Mk1.
Harnesses
Harnesses need a roll cage or harness barA 4-point, 5-point or 6-point harness with separate shoulder straps needs proper attachment points above and behind the seat. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar before using anything above a 3-point belt.
The TRS Clubman 3-point bolt-in at £80 and 4-point clip-in at £100 both use the standard seat belt anchor points and do not need a cage. For 4-point competition use, the TRS Magnum 4-point FIA at £205 and the Takata Drift II at £229 are the step up.
For 6-point harnesses, the cage goes in first. The TRS Magnum 6-point Superlite FIA at £245, the Takata Drift III at £270, and the Schroth Profi 3×2 at £370 all suit a caged Punto Mk1 going to competition or serious track days.

Common questions
Why does the Punto need three different sub-frames?
The fuel tank sits differently in the Mk1 floor from the later cars, which changes the geometry around the seat mounting points. OMP list three separate part numbers: HC786 for the Mk1 (1993-1999), HC797 for the Mk2, and HC862 for the Grande Punto. It is a genuine engineering difference, not a marketing reshuffle.
Is there a roll cage confirmed for the Mk1?
Yes, the Sparco bolt-in cage (19331), confirmed on the manufacturer spec sheet for 09/94 to 08/99. A separate Sparco cage exists for the Grande Punto and is a different part; it is not listed on this guide.
Do the Custom Cages options fit the Mk1?
Custom Cages list two weld-in cages under the generic name “Fiat Punto” without specifying a generation on the listing. They were on the original guide for this car, but confirm with us before ordering if you want certainty on fitment for your specific Mk1.
Which sub-frame should I choose?
The Sparco frame (14811) at £72.50 covers the standard 345mm x 271mm bolt pattern for Sparco, OMP and Corbeau seats. The OMP frame (15730) at £123.62 adds the larger 405mm x 290mm pattern for Recaro compatibility too.
Can I run a 6-point harness without a roll cage?
No. A 6-point harness needs anchor points above and behind the seat for the shoulder straps. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar first. A 3-point bolt-in harness uses the standard seat belt anchor points and does not need a cage.
