Once you start using your Austin A35 for fast road, hill climbs, and track use, you’ll soon realize just how much you need new bucket seats to provide more support.
On cornering, you may find your self holding onto the steering wheel tighter than usual, tensing your thighs and legs against the central console and/or door card. You’ll probably find your weight shifting in the seat and having to re-position your self after the corner.
None of this is correct. Your seat should provide the right level of support so that you can grip the steering wheel only for steering, your legs should be supported and your weight shouldn’t shift around. The recommendations we provide are to ensure that you feel comfortable and supported allowing you to focus on the job at hand.

No Off-The-Shelf Brackets:
There are no off-the-shelf seat subframes available for the Austin A35 when fitting aftermarket seats. The original seat bases were designed specifically for the factory seats, so upgrading to a bucket seat will require some level of custom work. In most cases, this means modifying the original frames or fabricating new mounting points to suit the seat you choose. It is something to factor in early, as the installation side is just as important as picking a seat that physically fits within the car.
We also offer a range of seat adaptation bars that are designed to work with the common bolt patterns used across most major aftermarket seat brands. These can make life a lot easier when you are fabricating your own subframes, as they give you a consistent mounting point to work from. These may also help you position the seat correctly within the tight cabin space of the A35.

We recommend these 4 bucket seats based on the Austin A35 interior dimensions:
Internal width guide (seat fitment focused)
- Total cabin width (mid cabin): 1190 mm
- Usable width across both seats: 1050 to 1150 mm
Per side (this is what matters most):
- Driver side (door to tunnel): 470 to 520 mm
- Passenger side (door to tunnel): 500 to 560 mm
Transmission tunnel:
- Tunnel width: 200 to 250 mm
What seats will realistically fit
- Safe seat width (each side): 390 to 440 mm
- Tight fit limit: 450 to 480 mm
- Over 500 mm: generally too wide without modification
