Top 5 reclining seat choices for your Peugeot 306, including our fitting guide

Few 1990s hot hatches have aged as well as the 306. The GTI-6’s six-speed box was something you noticed immediately in 1997, the Rallye was stripped for weight from the factory, and the competition version appeared in touring car racing. The owners who are still driving them hard today know exactly what they have, which usually means they already know the seats need sorting. The originals have had thirty years of track days and spirited road use, and the foam is rarely in a state worth keeping.

There is one frame route on this car, and it keeps the install straightforward. Sparco make a direct-fit subframe that bolts to the factory mounting points. Pick the seat from the five below, add the Sparco subframe and the matching runner kit, and it drops in without modification.

  • One frame route for the Peugeot 306: Sparco Direct Fit Sub-frames
  • Sparco frames take 345mm x 271mm seats; the two Corbeau seats are drilled for both 291mm and 345mm
  • Every seat in this guide is listed as 4 point harness compatible
  • The frame bolts to the factory mounting points, no drilling required

The one frame route into a Peugeot 306

We stock one vehicle-specific fitting frame for the Peugeot 306, made by Sparco. It replaces the factory seat runners, drops the seat height by 30 to 50mm depending on position, and carries the seat bolt pattern that all five seats in this guide are built around. The driver and passenger positions are sold individually, so a two-seat install means two frames. The subframe does not include the sliding runners; those come separately as the Sparco runner kit for Sparco seats, or the Corbeau 345mm runner kit for the two Corbeau seats.

345

Sparco subframe

£90.60 inc VAT a side. Sold individually, RHD driver and passenger positions listed separately. Takes all five seats in this guide when paired with the matching runner kit.

The number that decides it

Every reclining seat we sell bolts down through a base mount pattern. All five seats in this guide line up with the 345mm x 271mm Sparco bolt pattern, which is what the Sparco subframe accepts. The two Corbeau seats are also drilled for the 291mm x 330mm Cobra pattern, but we do not stock a Cobra frame for the 306. You do not need to cross-reference patterns if you are ordering from this guide.

All five seats bolt to the same frameThere is only one frame route on this car, so every seat in this guide works with it. The two Corbeau seats fit the Sparco subframe directly because they are drilled for the 345mm Sparco pattern as well as the 291mm Cobra pattern. If you are not sure which seat suits your driver size or intended use, drop us an email or click to open a chat and Cameron can work through it with you.

Sparco R500 Sky: the everyday track pick

The R500 is the seat most 306 owners end up in, and the Sky vinyl version is the one that works hardest on a track day car. The taller backrest gives proper shoulder support that the original 306 seat never had, the dual-density foam holds its shape through a full track day, and the flat open base makes getting in and out of a three-door without a fight. It covers all heights and fits 32 to 38 inch waists, so it suits most drivers without size restrictions getting in the way.

The Sky vinyl cleans up after a track day with a wipe. For a 306 that still does regular road miles between events, it is the most practical choice in this guide.

  • From £349 inc VAT per seat
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • Dual density foam in base and backrest
  • Harness slots, listed 4 point compatible
  • 345mm x 271mm: fits the Sparco subframe on this car

Corbeau PSR: the complete pair

The Corbeau PSR is listed as a handed pair with RHD driver and passenger positions already accounted for, which keeps the ordering straightforward on a full two-seat install. It is the pick for the driver who wants to change both seats at once and have it done. The PSR bolsters give better lateral support through a quick corner than a standard seat, and the dual bolt pattern means it bolts directly to the Sparco subframe without an adapter plate.

If you are replacing both seats and want a matched pair of Corbeau sport seats, this is the direct choice.

  • £558 inc VAT a pair
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • Handed pair: RHD driver and passenger included
  • Drilled for 291mm and 345mm, bolts straight to the Sparco subframe
  • Harness slots, listed 4 point compatible

Corbeau RRS Low Base: more lateral support

The RRS Low Base is the option if you want more side support than either Sparco in this guide without going to a full bucket. The sculpted bolsters hold you through a quick corner better than the R500, and the handed version makes sure the seat belt buckle clears correctly on a right-hand-drive car. The Low Base version sits slightly lower than the standard RRS, which is worth thinking about on a 306 with lowered suspension where the seating position can already feel close to the roofline.

It is drilled for both bolt patterns, so the Sparco subframe is no complication. If you are replacing one seat and want the Corbeau shape without the pair price, the RRS is listed as a single.

  • From £498 inc VAT per seat
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • Low Base version: useful in a lowered car
  • Drilled for 291mm and 345mm, bolts straight to the Sparco subframe
  • Harness slots, listed 4 point compatible

Sparco R333: the starting point on a tight budget

The R333 is Sparco’s most affordable recliner, and for a 306 used primarily as a track day car on a tight budget it is the honest entry point. The base mount sits lower than the R500, the trim is simpler, and the price reflects that. The bolt pattern fits the Sparco subframe and the harness slots are in the backrest, so the fundamentals are the same as the other Sparcos in this guide.

One thing worth reading before you order: the R333 is specified for 32 to 36 inch waists and drivers under 6 feet. That is a narrower window than any other seat in this guide. If you are above 36 inches or above 6 feet, the R500 is the right call. If the R333 fits your size, the price difference buys the R500’s extra foam density and taller backrest, not a different fit window.

  • From £449 inc VAT per seat
  • 32 to 36 inch waist only, drivers under 6ft (narrower than others in this guide)
  • Sold as a single, order twice for two seats
  • Harness slots, listed 4 point compatible
  • 345mm x 271mm: fits the Sparco subframe

Sparco SPX: the full track build pick

The SPX is a different proposition to the other Sparcos in this guide. Where the R500 and R333 are practical road and track options, the SPX is built around a competition-spec moulded shell with full FIA homologation. It carries no integrated head support, which means on a track car you need a harness bar or roll cage behind it, but in exchange the shoulder bolsters are properly aggressive and the shell is significantly lighter than any steel frame seat in this guide.

This is the pick for the 306 that has become a track-only build: caged, harness-mounted, taken seriously. At £2,816 per seat it is not a casual decision, but if the car is already talking roll cage, this is the seat worth speccing around it.

  • From £2,816 inc VAT per seat
  • FIA-rated competition moulded shell
  • No integrated head support, needs a harness bar or cage behind it
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • 345mm x 271mm: fits the Sparco subframe

Getting it bolted down

The Sparco subframe bolts to the 306’s factory seat mounting points without drilling on a standard floor. The frame lowers the seat height by 30mm to 50mm depending on position, which is worth knowing before you order if the car is already sitting low. Torque the floor bolts correctly and check seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, since a sport seat often moves the buckle to a new position relative to where it sat before.

The Sparco runner kit covers the three Sparco seats in this guide. The two Corbeau seats need the Corbeau 345mm runner kit because the Corbeau base uses a different runner attachment than the Sparco seats. Both runner kits are supplied as pairs.

The Peugeot 306 covers the 1993 to 2002 production run across hatchback, saloon and estate body styles. Seat mounting points are consistent across the range. If you have an earlier 205 or a later 307, the floor points differ and this frame does not apply. Check your build date if you are not certain which generation you have.

Common questions

Do I need to drill the floor of my 306 to fit these seats?

No. The Sparco subframe bolts to the factory seat mounting points on the 306 floor. Torque the bolts correctly and check seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, since a sport seat often sits the buckle somewhere new relative to the standard position.

Will these seats take a 4 point harness?

Every seat in this guide is listed as 4 point compatible, with belt slots in the backrest. If you are planning harnesses, get in touch when you order and Cameron can check the full setup works together for your build.

Why does the R333 have a narrower fit range than the other seats?

The R333 shell is smaller because Sparco designed it as an entry-level seat. Published fitment is 32 to 36 inch waist and under 6 feet. If you are above either limit, the R500 is the right call. If the R333 fits, the price difference buys foam density and backrest height in the R500, not a different fit window.

Does the Sparco SPX need anything else on a 306?

Yes. The SPX has no integrated head support. On a road car without a cage or harness bar, there is nothing behind the backrest. It is FIA-rated for competition use, which assumes a harness system and a certified cage structure. For a road and occasional track car, one of the other four seats in this guide is the practical choice. For a full track build with a cage already fitted, it is the right seat.

Would a fixed bucket seat suit my 306 better?

If you are building a track-only car or already running a roll cage, a fixed bucket is worth considering alongside the recliners here. Drop us an email or click to open a chat and Cameron can point you toward what fits.

What I would actually buy

If it were my money on a 306: the R500 Sky pair on the Sparco subframe for most drivers, because it covers the widest fit range, the vinyl is practical for track use, and the budget leaves room for the frame and runners without a second thought. The Corbeau PSR if you want to replace both seats in one order and have it done. The RRS Low Base if you want more lateral support and are replacing one seat at a time. The R333 if you are fitting one seat on a tight budget and you fit the size window, but check the 32 to 36 inch and under 6ft spec before you order. The SPX if the 306 is a track-only build with a cage already in place.
