Top 5 reclining seat choices for your Nissan GT-R R35, including our fitting guide

The factory seat in an R35 is not bad. Nissan gave it genuine lateral support, which means the upgrade conversation is different from most cars: you are not here because the seat gave up or does not hold you through a fast corner. The argument is simpler. The Cobra frame drops the hip point by a meaningful amount, and in a car with the GT-R’s turn-in rate and the grip levels that twin-turbo AWD can find, a lower seating position makes the steering feel like less of an event and more of a tool. That is why GTR owners come back for a second pair of subframes; sometimes it is not the seat they are chasing.

One practical point the frame description is upfront about: the R35’s electronics are significant. The factory seats carry occupancy sensing, airbag deployment wiring and other connections that vary by year and market. Disconnecting them without the right procedure will put warning lights on the dash and can affect how the airbag system registers the seat position. Tell us your year when you enquire and we will confirm what the installation needs before anything goes in the basket.

The frame route into an R35

One direct-fit subframe for the GT-R R35 in stock: the Cobra frame. It bolts to the factory floor mounting points and sets the final seat height, dropping the hip point and giving you the clearance to run a proper sport seat where the standard runners sat. Cobra build the frame around the 291mm x 330mm bolt pattern, which is the standard across the majority of the Cobra recliner range and all Corbeau recliners. One detail that matters when comparing prices: a sliding runner is included in the frame price. Competing subframe brands sell the runner separately, so their listed price is not the true total until you add the runner cost. The Cobra listing is the complete kit as it stands.

Part COB-GTR-R35-SUBFRAMES, £231.66 inc VAT per side. Sliding runner included. Bolt-in at the factory mounting points, no drilling on a standard floor. Tell us your year on the order: the R35's occupancy sensor and airbag wiring varies between years and needs proper handling before the subframe goes in.

The number that decides it

The 291mm x 330mm bolt pattern is the one to remember. It is the Cobra standard, and it is what this subframe is built around. Cobra recliners bolt straight to the included runner at that spacing. Corbeau recliners are drilled for two patterns, 291mm and 345mm, so they use their 291mm holes on the same runner without any adapter or extra part. Every seat in this guide fits the one frame. The table is short because the car has one route, not because the options are limited.

Pick the seat firstOn an R35, the frame is settled: it is the Cobra subframe. What Cameron works out at GSM is which of these five suits the driver, not just the car. If you are between two, ring us before you order.

Cobra Daytona: the track-focused starting point

The Daytona is the seat GTR owners tend to land on when they want proper track credentials without a long wait. The shoulder and thigh bolsters are much deeper than the factory seat, so the car holds you in position through a long session rather than having you push back against the door card. Cobra build each one through their Signature range: spacer fabric, vinyl or leather, one or two colours, contrast stitching, heating or lumbar if you want them. The Tartan Edition is available off the shelf at £899 inc VAT if you want a distinctive finish without speccing it yourself. At 580mm across the shoulders, it is the widest seat in the Cobra recliner range outside the Misano, worth measuring against the cabin before ordering the passenger side too.

  • From £599 inc VAT, built to order in your trim and colour
  • Tartan Edition at £899 inc VAT, ready off the shelf
  • 32 to 38 inch waists, all heights, 13.5kg
  • Signature options: Spacer, Vinyl or Leather, heating and lumbar available
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern: bolt straight onto the included Cobra runner

Corbeau PSR: both seats sorted in one order

The PSR is the one for owners who need driver and passenger done in a single order without stretching the budget. It is sold as a pair, and at around £279 a side inc VAT it is the cheapest route to genuine lateral support in the R35. The bolstering is lighter than on a Daytona, which is the right call if the car does a reasonable amount of daily work alongside the occasional track day: getting in and out of the GT-R without a production is easier with a PSR than with a deeper-bolstered seat. It clips for a 4 point harness if one comes later. The pair listing covers both seat positions and the price is for both seats, not one.

  • £558 inc VAT for the pair, around £279 per side
  • 32 to 38 inch waists, all heights
  • Cloth trim, black as standard
  • 4 point harness compatible
  • Drilled for 291mm and 345mm: uses the 291mm holes on the included Cobra runner

Cobra Stuttgart Vinyl: when you want it built to your spec

The Stuttgart is a different shape from the Daytona: 520mm wide rather than 580mm, lighter at 13.2kg, and slightly taller at 800mm. On an R35, where the factory cabin is wider and more comfortable than a typical hot hatch, the narrower shell often sits better on the passenger side as well as the driver’s. The Stuttgart Vinyl is the entry into the Cobra Signature made-to-order system: leather and Dinamica, two-tone vinyl with contrasting piping, anthracite or silver eyelets. There are no off-the-shelf colour combinations; the point is to specify it exactly. If the interior needs to look right and you can wait four to six weeks, this is the seat to be looking at. Cameron’s view is that the owners who end up with a Stuttgart tend to stay with it.

  • From £619 inc VAT, made to order
  • 520mm wide, 800mm tall, 13.2kg
  • 32 to 38 inch waists, all heights
  • Vinyl, Leather, Basketweave, Houndstooth and Tartan trim options
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern: same route as the Daytona

Corbeau SVR and RRS: one base, two backrest shapes

Corbeau’s two most popular recliners share the same base. The backrest is what differs: the SVR runs a smooth, modern high back; the RRS has the classic sculpted shape with visible bolstering at the shoulder. Both are drilled for 291mm and 345mm, which on the R35 means they use their 291mm holes on the Cobra runner without any adapter. Both come as pairs, which covers driver and passenger in a single order. A heated SVR is worth adding to the enquiry if the car runs through winter. The RRS is also available in a Low Base version, which gains a small amount of headroom: worth mentioning on the call if you are close to the headlining. We have fitted a lot of Corbeau pairs to track cars that still do road miles and the combination of good bolstering and a sensible exit hold makes them genuinely versatile.

  • SVR pair £1,020 inc VAT, RRS pair £984 inc VAT
  • Same base, two backrest shapes: smooth SVR or sculpted RRS
  • 32 to 38 inch waists, all heights
  • Heated option on the SVR; 4 point harness compatible on both
  • Drilled for 291mm and 345mm: fits the Cobra runner via the 291mm holes

Cobra Misano Anniversary: the one you do not get out of quickly

The Misano is the top of Cobra’s recliner range, and it sits differently from the Daytona and the Stuttgart in a way that is noticeable after the first circuit session. The foam compound is different. The seat is wider. On an R35, where the rest of the car costs serious money, the Misano is the one that matches the investment rather than hedging against it. Nobody who comes into the showroom and sits in one leaves quickly. It comes through the Cobra Signature system: trim, stitching, heating and lumbar are all options on the order form, and the build quality holds up through the kind of use a GT-R owner is going to put it through. If someone asks us six months after buying a Daytona what they should have bought, the answer is usually the Misano.

  • £1,649 inc VAT
  • 32 to 38 inch waists, all heights
  • Cobra Signature trim, heating and lumbar options available
  • Built to order, same system as the Daytona and Stuttgart
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern: goes straight onto the included Cobra runner

Getting it bolted down

The Cobra subframe bolts to the R35’s factory seat mounting points without drilling on a standard floor. Torque the floor bolts properly and check seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat often puts the buckle in a different position relative to the occupant. One ordering note: the subframe is listed per seat position at £231.66 inc VAT each, so a pair means two listings in the basket. The sliding runner is included in the price and works with all five seats in this guide. Corbeau seats use their 291mm holes on the included runner; there is no extra part to order. The wiring conversation needs to happen before the frame goes in, which is why we ask for the year at enquiry stage. Different R35 production years have different occupancy and airbag configurations.

Common questions

Do I need to drill the floor of my R35?

Not on a standard floor. The Cobra subframe bolts to the factory seat mounting points. Torque the floor bolts properly and check seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat often puts the buckle in a different position relative to the driver.

What happens to the airbag and occupancy sensors when I swap the seats?

The R35's factory seats carry occupancy sensor and airbag deployment wiring that varies between production years and markets. Disconnecting them without the right procedure will put warning lights on the dash and can affect how the airbag system registers the seat. This is not a reason to avoid the conversion, but it needs someone who knows R35 electrics: a Nissan specialist or experienced independent. Tell us your year when you enquire and we will confirm what your specific car needs before anything is ordered.

Will these seats work with a 4 point harness?

The Cobra Daytona, Stuttgart, Le Mans and Misano are all listed as 4 point harness compatible, with belt slots in the backrest. The Corbeau PSR, SVR and RRS are also 4 point compatible. If you are planning to run a harness, tell us when you enquire and we will make sure the complete setup works together.

The subframe is listed per side. What does that mean for ordering?

The Cobra R35 subframe is sold per seat position at £231.66 inc VAT each. Fitting both seats means two subframes in the basket. If anything on the listing is unclear before you order, ring us and we will confirm what goes in.

Is there a bucket seat guide for the GT-R?

There is. We have a customer car post showing a GT-R fitted with OMP RT bucket seats. That guide covers the fixed-back, competition brief. A recliner wins when the car does road miles alongside the track work, because a fixed back with a harness is not practical for daily driving.

What I would actually buy

If it were my money on an R35 that does road and track: the Daytona if I wanted track bolstering and a quick decision with the option to spec the finish later. The PSR pair if both sides need sorting in one order without a long conversation about budget. The Stuttgart if I wanted to specify it exactly and could wait. The Corbeau pair if I wanted the two backrest shapes compared before I committed. The Misano if I wanted the seat that ends the conversation rather than continuing it.

The wiring is the one step that needs doing before anything else goes in. Ring the showroom on 0115 9893488, give us your year and model details, and we will work out the installation brief with you before anything gets ordered.
