Top 5 reclining seat choices for your Ford Fiesta Mk5 ST150, including our fitting guide

The ST150 never quite got the recognition it deserved. It arrived in 2005 as a 2.0-litre Duratec Fiesta, sitting somewhere between the ordinary 1.4 and a more committed track-only build, and it found its best audience in club racing through the Fiesta ST Trophy series. Two decades later a lot of those cars are still on circuit, or back on circuit after a road stint, and their owners are dealing with the same thing: factory seats that were acceptable for the road but are not built for a sustained track session, and which are usually well past their best by now.

We get two types of enquiry about this car. The first is for a full bucket, which is a reasonable choice for a dedicated track car. The second is for a reclining seat that is still street-legal, comfortable on the drive to a circuit, and reclines at the petrol station. This guide covers the second option. One direct-fit frame in our range bolts to the ST150 floor without drilling, takes the whole Cobra bolt pattern, and between the Cobra and Corbeau ranges it opens up five seats worth considering.

  • One direct-fit frame for the Mk5 ST150, available as driver side, passenger side or pair
  • Cobra 291mm x 330mm bolt pattern, sliding runner included in the frame price
  • All five seats in this guide are listed as 4 point harness compatible
  • Bolts to the factory mounting points, no drilling on a standard floor

The Fiesta Mk5 ST150. One frame route decides which seats below can go in it.

The frame route into a Fiesta Mk5 ST150

The Cobra subframe drops straight to the ST150’s factory floor mounting points with no drilling. It covers the full production run from 2005 to 2008. A sliding runner is included in the price. Most subframes are sold without one and runners are a separate purchase, so the ST150 frame is slightly better value than it first looks. Order driver side, passenger side, or both as a pair depending on how many seats you are replacing.

The number that decides it

Every reclining seat we sell uses a base mount pattern, and on this car there is one that matters: the Cobra 291mm x 330mm. All five seats below either use this pattern or are drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, meaning they also take it. With a single frame route the choice comes down to which seat to put on it rather than which frame to buy first. The Corbeau PSR and RRS Low Base are drilled for both patterns, which means they will also fit a Sparco or Planted bracket in another car if you ever move them on; for the Cobra seats, the ST150 subframe is the only route we sell for this car.

Corbeau PSR: the pair that makes the budget easy

The PSR is the seat we point ST150 owners at first when they are doing both sides at once. A pair costs £558 inc VAT, which puts two proper sport recliners in the car for less than the price of a single mid-range seat elsewhere in this guide. It is a genuine recliner with a sculpted backrest and real lateral support, not a flat seat with a lean-back mechanism, and the cloth trim is easy to keep presentable after outdoor events. The bolster is softer than the RRS, which makes it the more forgiving option if the car covers road miles as well as track days.

  • £558.00 inc VAT for a pair
  • 32 to 38 inch waists, all heights
  • Cloth trim
  • Listed 4 point compatible
  • Drilled for both 291mm and 345mm patterns

Cobra Daytona: Cobra's entry point

The Daytona is the cheapest single seat from Cobra and it fits the ST150 subframe directly. At 13.5kg it is lighter than most people expect for a seat with this much structure, and the drop in seating height compared to the stock Fiesta position is noticeable: on a car where the original seating height works against the handling rather than with it, sitting lower makes the car feel better from the moment you leave the pit lane. If you are replacing one seat rather than both, this is the place to start from the Cobra range.

  • £599.00 inc VAT
  • 32 to 38 inch waists, all heights
  • 13.5kg
  • Listed 4 point compatible
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern, direct to the ST150 subframe

Corbeau Sportline RRS Low Base: more support, same routing

The RRS Low Base steps up from the PSR in two ways: the backrest is taller and more sculpted at the shoulder, and the Low Base version brings the overall seat height down slightly compared to the standard RRS. That matters on a car where headroom is not generous. It is drilled for both 291mm and 345mm so it bolts straight to the Cobra subframe, and it comes in cloth, leather or vinyl. The trim choice makes it one of the more flexible seats in this guide for a car that might do track days in summer and road miles in winter, because the vinyl version in particular takes wet kit and event dust without complaint.

  • £498.00 inc VAT
  • 32 to 38 inch waists, all heights
  • Cloth, leather or vinyl trim
  • Listed 4 point compatible
  • Drilled for both 291mm and 345mm patterns

Cobra Le Mans Heritage: the support step

The Le Mans Heritage is the Cobra seat to pick when the ST150 is doing regular circuit sessions. It weighs 13.4kg and has deeper bolsters than the Daytona at the shoulder and thigh, so you are braced through a corner rather than simply seated. The Heritage version adds a carbon-look trim and a period racing aesthetic without going into custom-order territory. If you want to specify your own trim, stitching, heating or lumbar, the base Le Mans is available through Cobra’s Signature range. Either way, the 291mm pattern goes straight onto the ST150 subframe alongside the seat you chose.

  • £649.00 inc VAT
  • 32 to 38 inch waists, all heights
  • 13.4kg
  • Cobra Signature range for custom trim options
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern, direct to the ST150 subframe

Cobra Misano Anniversary: the flagship

The Misano Anniversary sits at the top of the Cobra reclining range, and at 11.5kg it is lighter than the Daytona despite being a fuller seat. That is construction rather than compromised material, and the weight difference becomes relevant if the car is built to a class with a minimum driver weight. It is also listed as suitable for all waist sizes rather than the 32 to 38 inch range that most other seats in this guide carry, which makes it the option to consider if you have found Cobra recliners a firm fit in the past. Fitting route is the same 291mm pattern to the same subframe as every other Cobra in this guide.

  • £1,649.00 inc VAT
  • All waist sizes, all heights
  • 11.5kg
  • Listed 4 point compatible
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern, direct to the ST150 subframe

Getting it bolted down

The Cobra subframe for the ST150 includes a sliding runner in the price, so there is no separate runner purchase for this car. Torque the floor bolts to spec and check the seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat moves the buckle position relative to stock. Both sides of the car use the same subframe geometry, so if you are replacing both seats you need two subframes and two seats: the pair option on the subframe listing covers both in one order.

Common questions

Do I need to drill the floor of my Fiesta Mk5 ST150?

No. The Cobra subframe bolts to the factory seat mounting points without any modification to the floor. Check the seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because the new seat position may shift where the buckle sits relative to stock.

Will these seats take a 4 point harness?

Every seat in this guide is listed by its manufacturer as 4 point compatible, with appropriate belt routing in the backrest. If you are fitting harnesses, let us know when you order and we can check the whole setup works together.

Does this subframe fit all Fiesta Mk5 variants or only the ST150?

The frame in this guide (part SU-FO-ESMK5-ST150) is specific to the ST150 and covers the full 2005 to 2008 production run. The standard Mk5 and other variants have a different floor mounting layout. If you are not certain which variant you have, check the production plate against the build date before ordering.

Can I replace just the driver seat and keep the standard passenger seat?

Yes. Order the driver-side subframe and a single seat. The passenger side stays on its original runners. If you decide to do both sides later, order the passenger subframe and a second seat as a separate job.

Would a fixed bucket seat suit my Fiesta ST150 better?

If you want a fixed shell for maximum support on a track-only or competition build, we have a separate guide for that: Which bucket seats will fit my Fiesta ST150?. A recliner makes more sense if the car drives on the road as well, or if it needs to pass an MOT with a standard seat belt arrangement.

What I would actually buy

For a car doing track days a few times a year with road miles in between, I would put the RRS Low Base on the driver side. The vinyl version in particular suits a car that sees wet paddocks and a mix of conditions. If the budget stretches to both seats in one go, the PSR pair at £558 is the cleanest way to do it and leaves money for the frame and runner.

For a car that lives at circuit events rather than road use, the Le Mans Heritage is the better investment. The deeper bolsters do real work under load, and the Heritage trim holds up to regular use. The Misano Anniversary is for the driver who wants the best seat Cobra makes and is building the car to keep for a long time.

Every option above bolts to the factory mounting points. If you are stuck between the Cobra and the Corbeau, or between sizes, call us on 0115 9893488 and we will talk it through before you buy anything.
