Top 5 reclining seat choices for your Renault Clio Mk2 Facelift, including our fitting guide

A lot of Mk2 Facelift owners have lowered the car at some point, and that single fact is what separates this guide from most: we list two fitting frames for it rather than one. The difference is not a filing quirk. A car on coilovers sits the driver differently, and if you buy the standard-height frame for a lowered car, the seat will not clear the roof. Measure from the arch to the wheel centre if you are not sure which applies, and ask before you order.

Both frames are Cobra, the only brand we sell for this chassis. All five seats in this guide take the 291mm Cobra pattern, so the frame choice comes down to one question: which height does your car need. Cameron works out which seat suits which driver and car, but the frame decision comes first.

  • One frame brand for the Clio Mk2 Facelift: Cobra Seats
  • Two variants: standard ride height and lowered, both include the sliding runner
  • Bolt pattern: 291mm x 330mm, also taken by all Corbeau recliners
  • Every seat in this guide is listed 4 point harness compatible

The Clio Mk2 Facelift. Which of the two height variants you need depends on whether the car has been lowered.

The Cobra frame route into a Clio Mk2 Facelift

We stock two Cobra subframes for the Mk2 Facelift, and the only difference between them is the car’s ride height. A standard car takes one; a lowered car takes the other. Both bolt to the factory mounting points in the floor, no drilling, and both include the sliding runner in the price. That is different from most brands, which charge for the runner separately.

291

Standard height frame

For the Mk2 Facelift at original ride height. Includes the sliding runner. Priced per seat position, so a pair means ordering it twice. Tell us which side at checkout.

291

Lowered car frame

For the Mk2 Facelift on coilovers or aftermarket springs. Same bolt pattern, different geometry to clear the reduced roof gap. Runner included. If you are unsure which applies, send us the arch-to-wheel-centre measurement.

The number that decides it

Every reclining seat in this guide bolts to the Cobra subframe through a 291mm x 330mm base mount pattern. Cobra recliners are built around this pattern; Corbeau recliners are drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, so they take it too. There is no pattern conflict in this guide: all five seats go on either height variant of the Cobra frame.

Corbeau PSR: the value all-rounder pair

The PSR pair is where most Mk2 Facelift owners end up, and the reason is straightforward: Corbeau price it as a pair, so you are not buying singles twice, and the seat is compact enough not to fight the Mk2’s cabin on the way in or out of a three-door. The shoulder bolsters are lower profile than the RRS, which costs you some lateral support but makes the daily driving part considerably more liveable. It is the seat that does most of the job without demanding anything unusual in return, and it leaves budget for the frame.

  • £465 inc VAT per pair
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • Cloth trim
  • 4 point compatible
  • 291mm x 330mm: fits the Cobra subframe

Cobra Daytona: the entry Cobra pick

The Daytona is the entry point into the Cobra reclining range, and it earns its place by doing what an entry recliner should: it sits you better than the factory seat without costing what the Le Mans costs. Bolsters are there but not aggressive, the shell is comfortable for road use, and on a Facelift that spends more time in traffic than on a circuit, that balance makes sense. It takes the 291mm Cobra frame and the frame includes the runner, so the total kit is two items: frame and seat, nothing else.

  • £499.17 inc VAT (single)
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • 291mm x 330mm: Cobra subframe only
  • 4 point compatible
  • Single seat, a pair means ordering twice

Corbeau Sportline RRS Low Base: the headroom pick

The RRS Low Base drops your hip point compared to the standard RRS, which matters more on a lowered car than it does anywhere else. When the suspension is down, the ceiling comes down with it, and a full-height seat position starts to cost you headroom you cannot get back. Cameron tends to point Mk2 Sport owners on coilovers at the Low Base before the standard RRS for exactly this reason. The seat is drilled for both bolt patterns, so if you change car later, it comes with you. Available in cloth, leather or vinyl, which is rare at this price point.

  • £415 inc VAT (single)
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • Cloth, leather or vinyl trim
  • 4 point compatible
  • Lower seat base: headroom pick for lowered and standard cars alike

Cobra Le Mans: the support pick

The Le Mans is the Cobra to pick when the car works harder. Its bolsters at the shoulder and thigh are deeper than the Daytona and noticeably better in corners where you would otherwise be bracing yourself against the door card rather than steering. Built to order through the Signature range: the trim comes in whatever you specify at checkout, fabric, vinyl, leather, contrast stitching, heating or lumbar if you want them. The Heritage is the ready-to-go alternative in a period weave that suits the Facelift era well, no wait, no spec sheet required. Both go on the 291mm Cobra frame and the frame includes the runner.

  • From £515.83 inc VAT (single)
  • Le Mans Heritage from £540.83 inc VAT
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights, 13.4kg
  • Signature range: trim to order
  • 291mm x 330mm: Cobra subframe only

Corbeau SVR: the premium pick for tight headroom

The SVR uses a lower backrest than the RRS, and on a car where the roof is already close, that is the version that stops headroom being a problem. A lowered Mk2 Facelift with a full-height recliner gives you a driving position that works, mostly. With the SVR, the headroom situation goes from managed to sorted. Pair priced in vinyl: clean inside, shrugs off a track day interior, and predictable when you are working out the budget. This is the pick for a car that gets used regularly and driven properly.

  • £850 inc VAT per pair
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • Vinyl trim
  • 4 point compatible
  • Lower backrest: more headroom without moving the seat lower
  • 291mm x 330mm: fits the Cobra subframe

Getting it bolted down

The Cobra frame is a complete kit. The base frame and the sliding runner are in the price, which is different from most brands: Sparco, Planted, OMP, Recaro and Corbeau all charge for the runner separately. There is nothing extra to add to your order for any of the five seats in this guide.

Both frame variants bolt to the Clio’s factory seat mounting points without drilling. The key decision is which variant you need. If the car is on its original springs, take the standard frame. If it has been lowered on coilovers or aftermarket springs, take the lowered version. If you are not sure, measure from the arch to the centre of the wheel and send us the figure before ordering: that measurement tells us which one applies, and it is a quicker conversation than a return.

Priced per seat position. A pair means adding the frame twice, once for driver and once for passenger.

Common questions

Do I need to drill the floor of my Clio Mk2 Facelift?

No. Both Cobra frames bolt to the factory seat mounting points. Torque the floor bolts and check seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat often puts the buckle somewhere new.

Why are there two Cobra frames listed for the Mk2 Facelift?

Lowering the car changes where your hip point ends up relative to the roof. The standard frame is for cars at original ride height; the lowered version compensates for the reduced gap on a car with coilovers or aftermarket springs. Fitting the wrong one puts the seat too high, which can mean the door does not close properly. If you are not sure which applies, measure from the arch to the wheel centre and tell us before you order.

Do I need to buy separate sliding runners?

No. The Cobra frame includes the runner in the price. There is nothing extra to add to your order. This is different from most brands, which sell the frame and the runner separately.

Will these seats take a 4 point harness?

Every seat in this guide is listed as 4 point compatible by the manufacturer, with harness slots in the backrest. Tell us at order if you are buying harnesses alongside the seat and we will make sure the whole setup works together.

What is the difference between the Clio Mk2 Facelift frames and the Clio Mk1 frames?

They are completely different products for different floors. The Mk1 ran from 1990 to 1998; the Mk2 Facelift came out in 2001. Neither the Cobra nor the Sparco frame for the Mk1 fits a Mk2 floor, and the Mk2 Facelift frames listed here do not fit an earlier Mk2 or an Mk1. Check your registration date if you are unsure which generation you have. The Clio Mk1 guide covers the earlier car and its separate frame options: Renault Clio Mk1 reclining guide.

What I would actually buy

For a road car on a sensible budget: the PSR pair, because pair pricing means you are not paying twice for singles and the compact shell works in the Mk2’s cabin without a fight. The Daytona if you want to stay in the Cobra range and the Le Mans is more than the brief asks for. The RRS Low Base if the car is lowered and headroom is already tight: that lower hip point makes a measurable difference, and the trim choice is unusually wide for this price. The Le Mans if the car runs regular track days and you want the bolstering to earn its place mid-corner rather than just look the part. The SVR pair if the car is properly set up on suspension and you want the headroom situation resolved rather than managed.
