The Race 2×2 (part number 94005) is a 6-point FIA harness built specifically for use with a HANS or FHR device. The “2×2” designation describes the strap configuration: 2-inch shoulder belts and 2-inch lap belts throughout, which is the FIA 8853-2016 requirement for HANS-compatible harnesses.
The reason the shoulder width matters with a HANS is mechanical. A HANS device sits on the driver’s shoulders and has slots that the shoulder belts pass through to tether the helmet. The friction between the belt and the slot is part of how the HANS controls head movement in an impact. Standard 3-inch belts bow slightly across the HANS slot and reduce the contact area. Two-inch belts run flat through the slot surface, which is why FIA 8853-2016 mandates 2-inch straps when an FHR is in use.
The sixth point is a dual anti-submarining strap running between the legs. This is a separate system from the single-point ASM geometry on the 4-point Drift and Race 4 harnesses, and it provides more positive anti-submarining retention for competition use.
Installation is snap-on at the shoulder and lap points. If your lap belt mounting points suit bolt-in brackets instead, the Takata bolt-in kit (part number 01327) converts the lap end to a fixed bolt-on mounting without replacing the harness.
The cam-lock central buckle is the same aluminium multi-point release as the Race 4. FIA 8853-2016 homologation carries an expiry date; check the label before any event that requires current certification. Available in black or Takata racing green.
For the 4-point FIA option without HANS requirement: Takata Race 4 Snap-on Harness. The bolt-in conversion kit: Takata Bolt-in Kit.
