The Tillett B7 XL Carbon Epoxy carries FIA 8855-1999 homologation in the wide shell. Part number B7-44CAR. Tillett publish the weight at 3.8kg, substantially lighter than the B6 Screamer (5.8 to 6.1kg) and the C1 (7.1kg bare) at the same FIA approval level.
Construction is carbon epoxy: structural carbon fibre in an epoxy resin system, not the carbon-over-GRP layup used in the lower-cost Tillett shells. Both faces are gloss carbon. The XL shell puts the seat at the wider end of the standard Tillett sizing range. Tillett list the driver waist size as 36 to 40 inches.
Side mount only. Six-point harness. HANS confirmed at 30 degrees. Integrated headrest. Two cover options: headrest cushion only at £3,051.72 (part number B7-44CAR-4) or the full headrest, back and cushion panel set at £3,384.67 (part number B7-44CAR-3).
The B7 Carbon Epoxy in the standard 40cm width is listed separately. This XL version runs at 44cm with rolled edges on as the standard configuration. If you are at the wider end of the Tillett sizing range, or if you have found the standard B7 shell too narrow, this is the seat. For drivers in the standard width range, the non-XL B7 is the seat to look at first.
At 3.8kg and FIA 8855-1999, there is nothing in the Tillett range at this weight for this approval level. It costs accordingly.
Will I fit in this seat?
This is the XL version of the shell, cut wider than the standard seat. Tillett do not publish per-model driver limits for the XL shells, so rather than guess, send us your height and waist and we will confirm against the actual seat.
Is it FIA approved, and for how long?
Yes, it carries FIA 8855-1999 homologation. Every FIA seat has a not-valid-after year printed on its homologation label, and that label date is what a scrutineer checks, so look at the label on the seat you receive and check it against your championship regulations. Buying new means you get the freshest label the maker currently produces.
What do I need to fit it to my car?
This is a side-mount seat: it hangs between side brackets, the motorsport-style stack with fine height and angle control. You will need the car-specific frame, and a sliding runner if you want fore-and-aft adjustment. Our guide on base mount versus side mount walks through the whole stack, and tell us your car and we will quote the full kit.
Does it work with harnesses and a HANS device?
The shell takes 6 point compatible. If you are planning the full seat, harness, and HANS setup, tell us the car and we will spec it end to end.
How do I know it will feel right, not just fit on paper?
Fair question, because makers publish widths and weights, never feel, and two seats with identical numbers can feel nothing alike in the car. We keep the ranges on display in the Nottingham showroom, you are welcome to come and sit in them, and if you cannot get to us, call and describe your build, as the team sit in these seats every day. Our head support measurements guide shows the kind of real-world data we collect.
Tillett seats are custom-made to order
These carbon seats are handcrafted in the UK for each order. We do not stock or display them in the showroom, so everything is a special order placed with Tillett when you buy.
Lead times depend on the model and the options you choose, so ring us before ordering if you are working to a date.
Special order
Because each seat is made for you, our special order terms apply once production has begun.
Tell us your height, weight and the car, and we will confirm the right size and mounting before anything is made. Tillett sizing is specific and worth getting right first time.
