The Proton 300 and 400 Series were produced from the early 1990s to 2004. Both were built on platforms licensed from Mitsubishi, with the 300 Series (Persona and Wira) using the Mitsubishi Colt and Lancer underpinnings, and the 400 Series (Putra coupe) adding a two-door variant. They were popular budget cars in the UK during the 1990s, sold at prices below the mainstream European competition.
Part number 861116-1950 is the Recaro direct-fit sub-frame for the Proton 300 and 400 Series. It attaches to the factory floor mounting positions without drilling and carries integrated runners for fore-aft seat travel. The floor geometry on these cars follows the Mitsubishi Colt and Lancer blueprint of the same period, which Recaro mapped for this sub-frame.
The Proton platforms are not well documented in most sub-frame catalogues, which makes the Recaro sub-frame particularly useful here. A universal side mount would work in principle but would not position the seat correctly relative to the steering wheel and pedals the way a vehicle-specific frame does.
This sub-frame is for Recaro seats only and covers base-mountable bucket seats and reclining sport seats. It does not fit side-mounted competition shells without adaptor bars.
