Kirkey is the one range on this site that is sized like a piece of engineering rather than like clothing. You do not buy a small or a large, you buy a width in inches. And you do not choose the recline angle on comfort, you choose it because your discipline runs that angle. Once you understand those two things the whole catalogue, from a £210 drag seat to a £1,686 sprint car seat, reads in about a minute.
Two numbers do the work on this brand. Width in inches, measured across your hips in the kit you drive in, and layback angle in degrees, which is set by what you race rather than by what feels comfortable. Get those right and the series number more or less picks itself.
Aluminium, and a great deal of it
Kirkey Racing Fabrication have been building aluminium racing seats for over twenty five years and are one of the largest seat manufacturers in the world by volume. Everything is made in house, designed on CAD-CAM and cut, formed and welded on CNC machinery.
The construction is the same story right across the range: TIG welded .100 inch 5052-grade aluminium, extra MIG welding on the inside, and an offset aluminium extrusion around the perimeter of the seat. On the bigger kits that goes up to .125 inch in places. It is not a composite shell and it is not trying to be.
The range grew out of American oval racing and it shows in the naming. Series numbers rather than model names, seats built for IMCA, DIRT Late Model, Street Stock, Mod Lite, Micro Sprint and Quarter Midget, and specific mentions of World of Outlaws and Eldora Speedway. The road race and drag seats came later and sit alongside them.

Six things to understand
Series numbers rather than names, so this is the translation.
01Width in inches
The primary size decision. 14 widths from 10 inches to 20, measured across the hips, and most models come in three to seven of them. Not small, medium and large.
02Layback angle
The back angle in degrees, chosen by discipline. 10 degrees for Midget, Mod Lite and Sprint. 20 for DIRT Late Model, IMCA and Street Stock. 18 on the Sprint Deluxe. Adjustable on the 38, 55 and 65.
03Standard and lightweight
The 38 Series at £302.40 is the entry level layback. The 56LW and 58LW at £339.92 and £525 are the lightweight double rib versions of the 10 and 20 degree seats.
04Containment seats
Head and shoulder supports that wrap the driver and work with a head and neck restraint, £626.75 to £1,686.01. On the 71 Series they adjust 1.5 inches vertically.
05Drag and vintage
The 16 Series economy drag seat at £210 is the cheapest Kirkey we sell, the 55 Series Pro Street at £270 sits above it, and the 55V Vintage at £300 is the period looking one.
06Covers and mounts
Seventeen of the 21 seats are seat only and nine come without a cover. Side mounts are £90.64 a pair at 1.95lb, rear mount £63.78. Check both before you order.
Four questions, and the first two are numbers
Kirkey is the easiest brand on the site to buy correctly and the easiest to buy the wrong size of.
Measure your hips and buy that width
Kirkey size in inches across the hips and they list 14 widths, from 10 inches on the child seats up to 20 on the drag and layback ranges. Sit down, measure across your hips in the overalls and kit you actually drive in, and buy that number. Do not size up for comfort the way you might with a European bucket seat, because an aluminium seat is meant to hold you and a loose one will not. Most models come in three to seven widths so there is very likely one that is right.
Let the discipline pick the layback
The back angle is a functional choice on this brand rather than a comfort one, and Kirkey say what each is for. 10 degrees suits Asphalt Midget, DIRT Midget, Mod Lite and Sprint. 20 degrees suits DIRT Late Model, IMCA and Street Stock. The Sprint Deluxe seats are 18 degrees. If you are not in one of those, or you are building a road or club car, the adjustable seats are the 38, the 55 and the 65 Series, and the 65 gives you 18 to 23 degrees to play with.
Do you need containment?
A containment seat wraps head and shoulder supports around the driver and is built to work with a head and neck restraint. Most American oval divisions have moved that way and a lot of road race regulations now expect it. They start at £626.75 for the 71 Series and run to £1,686.01 for the 78 Series Sprint Deluxe. If your regulations do not ask for one, a standard layback seat at £302.40 does the job for a fraction of that.
Then budget for the cover and the mounts
Seventeen of the twenty one seats here are supplied as seat only and nine come without a cover, so this is a real part of the order rather than a detail. Covers come in black tweed, grey tweed, red tweed and black vinyl depending on the model. Side mounts are £90.64 a pair, 1.95lb, and fit the 09, 16, 36, 38, 39, 41, 41V, 47, 55, 65, 70 and 71 Series with multiple bolt patterns so you can set the angle. A rear mount is £63.78.
Nobody sizes a seat like Kirkey and it takes people a minute to get used to. There is no small or medium. You measure across your hips with your overalls on and you order that many inches. Fifteen, sixteen, seventeen. And the layback is not a comfort setting either, it is what your class runs. Get those two numbers and I can pick your seat off the list in about ten seconds. Get them wrong and no amount of padding will fix it.

Sometimes, and you need to check. Of the 21 seats we stock, eleven include a cover and nine are listed without one. Some are offered with a choice of black tweed, grey tweed, red tweed or black vinyl. The higher end kits like the 78 Series come with an easily removable cover with an extra half inch of energy absorbing padding for lumbar support.

There is also a rear seat mount at £63.78. Multiple bolt patterns on the side mounts let you set the seat angle.
Which series suits a road race or club car?▾
The 65 Series Kit at £499.98 is the entry level road race seat, with a padded black airknit cover, built in shoulder support, a reinforced headrest and 18 to 23 degrees of layback. Above it the 71 Series at £626.75 is the standard road race containment seat for lower powered short track road race cars, kit cars and club racing. Both take a head and neck restraint.
Do they make child seats?▾
Two. The 24 Series Aluminium Child Quarter Midget seat at £184.69 to £257.29, and the 34 Series Child Adjustable Containment Seat Kit at £661.25. Quarter midget is an American junior oval discipline, and these are properly built seats rather than scaled down adult ones.
