Mirco racing seats

Mirco have been making seats in southern Poland since 1995 and they are the best value FIA seat we sell. An 8855-1999 approved shell starts at £297. The catch is that the range is much bigger than it looks, and the thing that separates the models is not the price and not the looks, it is who fits in them. Mirco publish a driver weight and height limit for every seat and almost nobody reads it.

The short version

The FIA seats run from 85 kg to 100 kg and from 175 cm to 190 cm, and they are all within about £40 of each other. Our best seller, the GT, is one of the two smallest. The roomiest one, the RTS-2, is £10 more. Pick on the driver limit first and the price will look after itself.

01 / The brand

Everything made under one roof

Mirco started in Skoczow in 1995 and have stayed there. What is unusual is how much of the seat they make themselves. The design, the 3D printed moulds, the laminating of the polyester glass shell, the sewing and the upholstery are all done on site, which is why the custom trim side of the business works the way it does.

The FIA testing is done at DEKRA, and 63 of the 117 Mirco lines we hold carry FIA 8855-1999. Mirco list us as one of their distributors on their own site, so the seats come to us direct and we can get custom trims made rather than picking from a stock list.

We have had Mirco seats in the Nottingham showroom for years and that is worth more than any spec sheet on this brand. The differences between an RS1 and an RTS-2 are the sort of thing you feel in thirty seconds and cannot read off a page, so come and sit in them if you can get to us.

Mirco name seats by shell. Everything after the model name is trim. Sort out which shell fits you and the rest is decoration.

01GT and RS1

The compact end. Both rated for a driver up to 85 kg, the GT for 170 to 185 cm and the RS1 for 165 to 175 cm. The GT is our best seller at £324. Good seats, small seats.

02RS2, RS7 and RTX-7

The middle of the range and where most people should be looking. All three are rated to 95 kg and up to 190 cm, and Mirco measure all three within 5 mm of each other across the hips. They do not feel the same. The RS7 sits you deepest and feels the tightest seat in the range, which is exactly why it supports you best. The RS2 is the easiest to get into because its sides roll off.

03RTS and RTS-2

The roomiest FIA seats Mirco make, rated to 100 kg and 190 cm, and 405 mm across the cushion where everything else in the FIA range is 370 to 390 mm. The RTS-2 is the 2024 update and it is £334, ten pounds more than the GT. These two are the only FIA Mircos we list for a 36 to 40 inch waist.

04Classic

Built for historic and classic cars, and the cheapest FIA seat on the site at £297. Rated to 100 kg and 185 cm, so it is a roomy seat as well as a period looking one.

05Track day and sim

The same style of shell without the FIA approval, from £241. XL, S3000, MX5, WRC, GTS and others. Right for a track day car, a sim rig or a road car, wrong for anything scrutineered. The XL is the widest seat Mirco make in any range.

03 / How to choose

Four questions, in this order

The first one is the one people skip, and it is the only one that cannot be fixed later.

1

What does the seat say about the driver?

Every Mirco listing publishes a maximum driver weight and a height range, and they are not the same seat to seat. The RS1 is 85 kg and 165 to 175 cm. The RTS-2 is 100 kg and up to 190 cm. That is a big difference in a range where every FIA seat sits between £297 and £449, so the money is not telling you anything about fit. Find the seats that fit you, then choose between those.

2

FIA approved, or not?

If you are scrutineered you need FIA 8855-1999, and 63 of our Mirco lines have it starting at £297 for the Classic. If it is a road car, a track day car or a sim rig you do not, and the non-FIA shells start at £241. This is also where the carbon seats fall out. All 14 of them are non-FIA and they are the most expensive seats in the range, so if you are buying carbon for a competition car you are spending double to lose the approval.

3

Do you want head support?

Most of the FIA range has integrated head support, which is what you want with a harness and a head restraint. The RS7 has the deepest supports of the lot and the RS1 3D is the one we point people at when they need head support but the car has no room, because it is the narrowest shell with it. The GT is available either way.

4

Then, and only then, the trim

Velour, vinyl, 3D SpaceTech, suede, houndstooth, tartan, diamond stitch. Mirco offer 250+ trim options and will do custom work with logos and names, so this is the fun part and it changes nothing structural. A GT is a GT at £317 in velour and at £466.50 in suede. It is the same shell with the same approval and the same driver limits.

The Mirco GT is our number one seller and it has been for years, and that is exactly why I keep having this conversation. It is a cracking seat, but Mirco rate it for a driver up to 85 kg and 185 cm, which makes it one of the smallest in the range. The RTS-2 next to it takes 100 kg and 190 cm and costs a tenner more. People buy the popular one because it is popular. Read the driver limit, it is on every listing, and if you can get to Nottingham just come and sit in three of them.

The roomiest FIA seats in the range

If you are a bigger or taller driver, start here rather than with the best sellers. The RTS-2 is the 2024 model and takes 100 kg and 190 cm for £334. The original RTS is still stocked. The Classic is rated to 100 kg as well and is the cheapest FIA seat we sell at £297.

For a tight cockpit or a smaller driver

The other end of the range, all rated for a driver up to 85 kg. The RS1 3D is 165 to 175 cm and is the one we recommend when a car has no room but the driver still wants head support. The three GTs are 170 to 185 cm and differ only in trim.

07 / Deep supports

RS7, RTX-7 and RS2

The seats to look at if you want to be properly held in. All three are rated to 95 kg and up to 190 cm, and on paper they are within 5 mm of each other across the hips. In the showroom they are nothing alike. The RS7 has the deepest kidney, shoulder and head supports Mirco make, so it sits you further into the seat and feels the tightest of the three. That is the support you are paying for, and it is also the heaviest shell at 11 kg.

The dearest seats, and none of them are FIA

A carbon back shell on the track day range, £616 to £840. They look superb and they are stiffer and lighter than the fibreglass equivalents. What they are not is FIA approved, and the fibreglass seat two rows up at £324 is. Buy these for a road or track car with your eyes open.

The FIA range by who fits in it

Straight off our own listings. This is the table nobody publishes and it is the only one that matters when you are choosing.

RS2Up to 95 kgUp to 190 cm9.3 kg£354.50

Read that top to bottom rather than by price. There is £63 between the cheapest FIA Mirco and the dearest one in that list, and 15 kg of driver between the GT and the RTS-2. The seat that suits the biggest driver is the fourth cheapest. If you are close to a limit, go up rather than down, because a bucket seat you do not fit is not a bargain.

13 / Questions

Common questions about Mirco seats

Where are Mirco seats made?

Skoczow in southern Poland, and the company has been going since 1995. The whole job is done in house, from the 3D printed moulds through laminating the polyester glass shell to the sewing and the upholstery, and the FIA testing is done at DEKRA. Mirco list us as one of their distributors on their own site, which is why we can get custom trims done rather than only the stock ones.

Which Mirco seat fits the biggest driver?

The RTS-2 and the Classic, both listed for a driver up to 100 kg. The RTS-2 also goes to 190 cm where the Classic stops at 185 cm, so the RTS-2 is the roomiest FIA seat Mirco make. Mirco measure the RTS shell 405 mm across the cushion where the RS2 is 390 mm, so it is the wider seat too, and it has the largest internal feel of anything we have had on display. It is £334, which is £10 more than the GT and £20 less than the RS2. On the waist side the RTS and the RTS-2 are the only FIA seats we list for a 36 to 40 inch waist. If you do not need the FIA paperwork, the non-FIA XL is wider again at 415 mm.

Which Mirco is easiest to get in and out of?

The RS2. Its side bolsters roll off rather than standing straight up, so you drop into it rather than climbing over the sides, and that matters far more on a road car you use every day than on a race car you get strapped into once a weekend. The RS7 is the other end of it. That is the deepest seat Mirco make and it feels the tightest in the range, which is the same reason it holds you best once you are in. The RTS has the largest internal feel of the lot. None of that is on a spec sheet, it comes from having them on the showroom floor.

Why is the GT your best seller, and is it right for me?

It is our best seller by a distance, 238 of them, because it is a well made FIA seat at £324 with a removable leg support and we have had one in the showroom for years. What people miss is that it is one of the two smallest seats in the range: Mirco rate it for a driver up to 85 kg and 170 to 185 cm. If you are near either number, the RTS-2 at £334 or the RS2 at £355 will suit you better. Popularity is not fit.

Are the carbon fibre Mirco seats FIA approved?

No. We hold 14 carbon Mirco seats, they run £616 to £840, and not one carries FIA 8855-1999. They are listed Road and Track or sim racing, and several say so in their own description. The fibreglass GT at £324 is the FIA seat. So on this brand carbon buys you a lighter, better looking shell and takes the competition approval away. Worth knowing before you spend double.

What is the difference between an Edition and a standard seat?

Trim, and nothing else. A GT Classic Edition, a GT Grey Edition and a GT Vinyl Houndstooth Edition are the same shell with the same FIA approval and the same driver limits as the plain GT, dressed differently. The GT range runs from £317 to £466.50 on that basis alone. Pick the model on fit first, then choose how it looks.

Are Mirco seats HANS compatible?

The FIA seats are, and they are listed HANS Friendly. They have five harness slots, which covers a 4 point or a 6 point harness, and they are side mount as standard. Four seats in the range are base mount instead, so check the fixing type on the listing if your brackets are already fitted.

Do I need brackets and side mounts as well?

Yes. Mirco seats are sold as the seat only, so you need a vehicle specific bracket or subframe and, for a side mount seat, the side mounts too. Tell us the car when you order and we will put the right fitting kit with it rather than leaving you to work it out.

Can I get a Mirco in a trim you do not list?

Almost certainly. Mirco offer over 250 trim options and they will do custom work including logos and names, so the dropdown on the listing is the quick list rather than the whole choice. Ring us with what you want and we will price it. Whichever trim you pick, the shell, the FIA approval and the driver limits stay the same.

Come and sit in three of them

We keep Mirco seats on display at the Nottingham showroom and it is the quickest way to settle this. Thirty seconds in an RS1 and an RTS-2 tells you more than any table on this page. If you cannot get to us, ring with your height, your build and the car and we will narrow it to two. Ask for Cameron.
