Customer Question: Can I Wire Heated Seats Into My Car’s Original Buttons?
Customer question, answered properly
A question in from a customer this week that we get every winter, usually with the heater already on the wish list: he is buying heated sports seats and wants to know whether they can be wired into the car’s original heated seat buttons, so the dash stays factory.
The honest answer is no, not as a supported install, and the reason is a good one. Every heated seat we sell, from every maker, arrives with its own wiring loom and its own switch, designed as a matched set for that seat’s element. You mount the switch and use it. What a good auto electrician may be able to do beyond that is covered further down, along with every heated seat we list, maker by maker.
- Every heated seat we sell arrives with its own wiring loom and its own switch
- The switch mounts on a small bracket beside the seat, and that is the supported install
- Wiring into the original dash buttons is a job for a good auto electrician, and not one we can guarantee
- Heated seats are listed from Recaro, Corbeau, Cobra and Simoni Racing
- Heated recliners start at £496.79 a seat, and pairs from £1,080.00

I am buying heated seats from you. Can I wire them into the original heated seat buttons in my car so the dash stays standard?
The question, as it arrivedThe straight answer
No, not as a supported install, and we would rather say that plainly than have a customer find out after the seats are in. A heated seat from Recaro, Corbeau, Cobra or Simoni Racing comes as a complete set: the element in the seat, a loom that plugs into it, and a switch on the end of that loom. The maker designed those three things together. Your car’s original buttons were designed for a different element in a different seat, and the two were never meant to meet.
So the install we recommend, and the one every seat on this page is built for, is the supplied one: fit the loom, mount the switch on its little bracket beside the seat or on the tunnel, and use it. Cameron’s view from fitting these: the switch is small, sits where your hand falls, and within a week nobody remembers it was not factory.
What is in the box, drawn as a concept and not as a wiring diagram. The maker designs the element, loom and switch as one matched set, which is why the switch that comes with the seat is the one we recommend using.
What a good auto electrician may manage
Here is the honest middle ground, because some customers really do want the factory buttons. A good auto electrician may be able to cut the supplied switch off the loom, check the ohms and the voltage the element wants against what the original buttons and their circuit deliver, and wire the two together. Some manage it. We have no way of knowing whether your car’s circuit and your new seat’s element will agree, so we cannot guarantee that route, and anything cut off the supplied loom is a change the seat maker did not design for.
Garreth’s steer, having watched this play out for twenty years: use the supplied switch. It costs nothing extra, it is the version the maker tested, and the money saved on an electrician buys a lot of other parts. If the factory look genuinely matters to you, take the loom and the switch to an electrician you trust and let them make the call with the parts in their hands.
Adding heat to a seat that has none is a different questionThat one has its own page. Fixed back buckets like the Cobra Classic can have heating pads added as a custom trim job, and our Cobra Classic heating answer explains what that involves. Everything below is the easier route: seats that arrive heated from the factory.
Recaro: Sportster CS and Cross Sportster CS with heating
Recaro build heating into the Sportster CS and its taller-sided sibling the Cross Sportster CS, each available with or without a side airbag as well. These are the heated seats we sell most, the road recliner that still feels like a proper seat, and our Recaro Speed and Sportster CS write-up covers the family. Prices are per seat, and they mount through Recaro’s own runners on a car-specific bracket.

Corbeau: the Sportline range with heating
Corbeau offer heating across the Sportline recliners and sell them as pairs, which makes the maths simple: the RRS in standard and low base, the SVR, and the Boss Evo 2 all come with heating for a pair price, each seat with its own loom and switch. For a daily-driven car that wants bolstering without the price of a Recaro, this is where Garreth usually starts the conversation.
Cobra: the Misano Anniversary with lumbar and heating
Cobra put heating into the Misano Anniversary as a pair, with lumbar support alongside, and it is the most grand-touring seat on this page: a British-made recliner for cars that cover distance in winter. Same rule as the rest, its own loom and switch per seat. If a Cobra you want is not listed heated, ask, because trim and option combinations can often be ordered to spec.
Simoni Racing: heated recliners on a budget
Simoni Racing bring heating to the entry price: the Jackie Blue and Jody FRP recliners are available heated as singles, handed by lever side, and as pairs. For a first sports seat in a winter-driven car they are the affordable answer, and the same supplied-switch install applies.

Common questions
Where does the supplied switch go?
On a small bracket beside the seat base or on the transmission tunnel, wherever your hand falls. It is a compact switch and most customers stop noticing it within days. Cameron will talk through placement for your car if you ring.
Can you supply the seat without the loom so I use my own?
The loom and switch are part of the seat as the maker sells it, so they come in the box regardless. What you do with them after that is your call, with the caveats on this page.
Will my car’s original heated seat buttons still work for anything?
They controlled the factory seats, so once those are out the buttons have nothing to talk to unless an electrician wires the new elements to them. Most customers leave them in place as blanks, which looks perfectly factory from the driver’s seat.
Do the heated versions fit differently from the standard seats?
No. The heating lives inside the seat, so mounting is identical to the unheated version: the same car-specific bracket and, for Recaro, the same Recaro runners. Tell us the car and the fitting kit comes out alongside.
Which heated seat would you actually pick?
Garreth’s answer depends on the car: Recaro Sportster CS for a car you want to keep feeling special, a Corbeau Sportline pair for the best value per seat, Simoni Racing when the budget is the boss. Sit in all three in the showroom and the decision usually makes itself.

The next stepTell us the car and whether it already had heated seats
That second detail matters, because the original buttons are the whole question. Ring 0115 9893488, tell Cameron the car and the seat you like, and the right heated version leaves with its loom, its switch and the fitting kit to match.
