Which Is The Right Kevlar Bucket Seat For Your 2022 Racing Season?
Your questions, December 2021
With the 2022 season coming, we are getting plenty of questions about Kevlar bucket seats. Our whole Kevlar range is made by Corbeau, one of the most popular names in motorsport seating, so the real question is which Corbeau suits you.
Here we go through what the Kevlar shell brings, the main seats in the range, the vinyl versions for off-road and open cars, and the harnesses that go with them.
- Our Kevlar bucket seats are all made by Corbeau
- Kevlar is a strong, heat resistant aramid fibre, related to Nomex
- System 3 shells use a carbon and Kevlar construction
- Range includes the Pro Series X, Sprint X, Revenge X and Revolution
- Vinyl versions suit off-road events and open top cars
- Standard and XL sizes

What Kevlar brings to a seat
Kevlar is a strong, heat resistant synthetic fibre, one of the aramids alongside materials such as Nomex and Technora. In a seat shell, that strength adds stiffness, so the seat stays rigid under high loads, such as fast corners, and keeps its shape in an accident.
On Corbeau’s System 3 seats the shell is a carbon and Kevlar construction, which is lighter than a glass fibre shell. It also looks good: the Kevlar weave covers the whole back of the shell.
When you look at one in the showroom, the Kevlar is the first thing you notice: a fine gold-coloured weave across the back and sides of the shell.
What matters more is what it does. A stiffer shell passes more of what the car is doing back to the driver and gives the harness a firm seat to pull you into.

The Corbeau Kevlar range
The Corbeau Pro Series X is one of Corbeau’s most popular motorsport seats. It has higher side supports than the Sprint X, so it holds you firmly whatever kind of motorsport you do, along with a 5-point harness facility, strong shoulder supports and removable cushions with Corbeau logos. It is approved to FIA 8855-1999.
The Sprint X, Revenge X and Revolution make up the rest of the range, each with a different shape, and most come in standard and XL sizes. Garreth’s advice is to sit in more than one before deciding, because the right shape depends on your build as much as the car.

Kevlar with vinyl trim
Some of the seats also come trimmed in vinyl. Vinyl is easier to clean than fabric, which makes these versions better suited to off-road events and open top cars where mud and rain get in. You get the strong shell and a trim that is practical to live with.
Harnesses to match
A good seat needs a harness that fits it properly. We carry road, track and FIA harnesses to suit the Kevlar seats, and the choice depends on what you are entering. Our guide to fitting a motorsport harness covers the anchor points and angles.
