Which Is Right For You? Corbeau Pro Series VS Pro Series XL

Choosing between the Corbeau Pro Series and the Pro Series XL is not about which seat is better overall. It is about which one fits you and your car correctly. Both seats share the same motorsport-focused design, materials, and build quality, but they are intended for different driver sizes and cockpit layouts.

It is very easy to assume that going larger will automatically be more comfortable, but with bucket seats this is rarely the case. A seat that is too wide for you will not support you properly, allowing unnecessary side to side movement under braking and cornering. On the other hand, a seat that is too narrow can feel restrictive and uncomfortable. Getting this balance right is what makes the difference between a seat that simply looks good and one that genuinely improves your driving experience.

For 2026, the Corbeau Pro Series range continues to be a popular choice for drivers who want a proper fixed-back motorsport bucket seat without moving into full containment designs. The availability of both standard and XL sizes gives drivers the option to choose a seat that matches their body shape, rather than forcing themselves to adapt to a one size solution.

This guide is designed to help you make that decision with confidence. We will break down the differences between the two sizes, explain how driver fitment affects support and control, and highlight the key considerations around vehicle space and installation. By the end, you should have a clear idea of which Corbeau Pro Series seat is the right match for you and your build.

Corbeau Pro Series VS Pro Series XL driver fitment explained

Correct driver fitment is the most important factor when choosing between the Corbeau Pro Series and the Pro Series XL. A seat that is too wide will not provide enough support, while a seat that is too narrow will quickly become uncomfortable.

We compared both seats in store using a driver who is 5ft 10 inches tall with a 32 inch waist. In this case, the standard Corbeau Pro Series was clearly the better fit. The driver’s shoulders sat correctly behind the shoulder supports, and the seat hugged the body firmly through the hips and torso. This created a secure seating position that limits side to side movement under cornering.

In the Pro Series XL, the same driver sat too loosely in the seat. The wider internal dimensions meant the shoulder supports sat too far apart, and the driver’s shoulders dropped below the intended support area. This reduces the effectiveness of the seat and allows more lateral movement, which is exactly what a bucket seat is designed to prevent.

Seat height is also important to consider. Both the Pro Series and Pro Series XL have relatively short backs. Because of this, we do not recommend either seat for drivers with tall torsos or for drivers over 6ft tall. If you are too tall, your shoulders can end up sitting too high relative to the shoulder supports, reducing upper body support and making the seat less effective.

When correctly sized, both versions offer excellent support. The deep thigh bolsters and aggressive shoulder supports work together to keep the driver pinned in place, reducing fatigue and improving control during demanding driving situations.

The Corbeau Pro Series and Pro Series XL bucket seats overview

The Corbeau Pro Series range is designed for motorsport and high-performance driving. Both the standard and XL versions share the same core design and construction, with size being the main difference between them.

These seats use a lightweight fibreglass shell, which keeps weight down while maintaining the rigidity needed for competition use. The shell design provides strong support through the hips, thighs, and shoulders, helping to minimise lateral movement during heavy braking and cornering.

Trimmed in high quality velour fabric, the Pro Series seats are designed to be durable in high wear areas. The materials used in the bolsters and contact points are tougher than standard fabric, helping the seat hold up better over time with regular use.

These seats are ideal for drivers who want a serious bucket seat for track days, sprint events, or motorsport builds, without stepping up to a full containment seat.

Key features of the Corbeau Pro Series range include:

  • Lightweight fibreglass shell construction
  • Aggressive shoulder supports
  • Durable velour fabric trim
  • Designed to reduce lateral driver movement
  • Suitable for motorsport and demanding driving conditions

Seat dimensions and vehicle fitment considerations

When choosing between the Corbeau Pro Series and the Pro Series XL, understanding the physical dimensions is just as important as driver fitment. Both seats are wide compared to many aftermarket bucket seats, particularly across the shoulders, which has a direct impact on vehicle compatibility.

At the shoulders, both versions measure approximately 600mm wide. This means they are best suited to cars with larger or more open cockpits. In smaller interiors, this shoulder width can cause clearance issues with door cards or roll cage bars, so careful measurement is strongly recommended before ordering.

Main seat measurements are as follows:

Standard Corbeau Pro Series

  • Base width: approximately 49cm
  • Seat base depth : approximately 50cm
  • Overall seat height: approximately 91cm
  • Upper back internal width: approximately 30cm
  • Mid-section internal width: approximately 37cm
  • Shoulder width: approximately 60cm
  • Hip width: approximately 33cm

Corbeau Pro Series XL

  • Base width: approximately 51cm
  • Seat base depth: approximately 50cm
  • Overall seat height: approximately 91cm
  • Upper back internal width: approximately 30cm
  • Mid section internal width: approximately 40cm
  • Shoulder width: approximately 60cm
  • Hip width: approximately 35cm

Based on these dimensions, we recommend the standard Corbeau Pro Series for drivers with a 30 to 34 inch waist, and the Pro Series XL for drivers with a 34 to 38 inch waist.

Because the shoulder width is the same on both seats, vehicle fitment should be considered first, especially in cars with narrow cabins or fitted roll cages. Measuring your available space before choosing between the standard and XL versions will help avoid clearance issues and ensure the seat performs as intended.

Installation and mounting options

Corbeau bucket seats use an M10 mounting bolt rather than the more common M8 bolt found on most aftermarket bucket seats. Because of this, they are not directly compatible with standard universal side mounts unless the holes are modified.

To install these seats correctly, you will need Corbeau-specific M10 side mounts. These allow the seat to be mounted safely and securely, either directly to the floor or onto a vehicle-specific seat subframe.

For motorsport-focused builds, we recommend side mounting the seat directly to the floor where possible. This creates a fixed setup that is strong, simple, and keeps the seating position low.

If you want an adjustable setup for road or mixed use, the seats can be mounted to vehicle-specific subframes and paired with sliding runners. For the standard Pro Series, we recommend 345mm wide handle sliding runners. For the Pro Series XL, the wider 405mm handle sliding runners are a better match, ensuring the side mounts line up correctly with the wider seat shell.

Our M10 steel side mounts are designed to work perfectly with universal sliding runners and the full Corbeau bucket seat range, making installation straightforward when the correct components are used.

Corbeau Pro Series range and custom options explained

The Corbeau Pro Series range is designed to give you plenty of choice without making things complicated. At its core, the range is built around three simple decisions.

First, there are two seat sizes.

  • The standard Pro Series is designed for slimmer and average sized drivers.
  • The Pro Series XL offers extra space through the hips and mid section for larger drivers.

Second, each size is available in three shell construction options.

  • Fibreglass for a strong and cost effective motorsport seat.
  • Kevlar for reduced weight and increased strength.
  • Carbon for the lightest and most premium option in the range.

Third, each shell option can be customised with different shell colours and trim colour choices.
The fibreglass range offers multiple shell colour upgrades, while all versions can be specified with a choice of trim colours. There are also special editions available, such as tartan trims and vinyl trims for a more individual look.

To keep things simple, we stock and display the Corbeau Pro Series in the standard size, finished in black velour trim with a black fibreglass shell. This allows customers to view the seat in person and test the fit before choosing their preferred size, shell material, and colour options.

Final thoughts choosing the right Pro Series seat for 2026

The choice between the Corbeau Pro Series and the Pro Series XL comes down to driver size and correct fitment, not comfort preference alone. A seat that fits you properly will always perform better than one that is simply larger or more padded.

For average-sized drivers, the standard Pro Series offers the best balance of support and control. For larger drivers who need more room through the hips and torso, the Pro Series XL is the better option, provided the vehicle has enough interior space to accommodate its width.

Both seats remain strong choices for 2026, offering a lightweight fibreglass construction, aggressive support, and durability suited to demanding driving environments. The key is choosing the right size for both you and your car.
