Volkswagen Polo Mk6 Seat Guide: Cobra Frames, Recliners And The Nogaro
Vehicle guide, Volkswagen Polo Mk6 2018 to 2021
The Polo Mk6 is an easy car to seat properly, and the reason is worth knowing before you spend anything. Cobra make a direct fit subframe for it, and that subframe uses the same bolt pattern as every reclining seat Cobra build. Frame and seat, one brand, no adapting.
So this guide is built around that. The frame first, because it decides everything after it, then the reclining seats that bolt straight to it, then the Nogaro range if you want a fixed back bucket instead. And one warning about which Nogaro to pick, because there is a trap in that range.
- Cobra make a direct fit subframe for the 2018 to 2021 Polo Mk6 at £212.50, and it bolts to the factory floor points
- It carries 291mm x 330mm, which is the pattern every Cobra reclining seat uses, so the two ends match
- Reclining seats run from the Daytona at £499.17 up to the Misano Anniversary at £1,374.17
- The Nogaro fixed backs are Road and Track rated, from £524.17, and suit tall drivers because of the 910mm backrest
- The Nogaro Speedster is the exception: a 700mm back, so do not buy one expecting the tall driver benefit

Start with the frame, because it decides everything
A fitting frame is the vehicle specific base that bolts to the floor in place of the standard seat runners. The seat then mounts to the frame. It sets your final seat height, how far back you can sit, and, most importantly, which seats you can use at all.
Cobra list one for the Polo Mk6 covering 2018 to 2021, at £212.50 a side, in driver and passenger versions. It picks up the car’s own mounting points so nothing is cut and the standard seat can go back in later. If your car is outside those years, send us the registration before ordering and we will confirm what suits it.
The number that matters on it is 291mm x 330mm. Hold that thought, because it is what makes the rest of this guide simple.

Why this car is easier than most
On a lot of cars the frame and the seat come from different makers with different bolt patterns, and you end up buying adapters or compromising on the seat. Not here. Cobra build their reclining seats on 291mm x 330mm, and the Polo Mk6 subframe is 291mm x 330mm, so a Cobra seat drops onto a Cobra frame exactly as both were made.
That is worth real money and real hassle avoided. It also means that if you change your mind about the seat in two years, the frame stays. Our seat bolt patterns guide explains why this matters across the other brands, and if you are wondering about a seat from outside the Cobra range, our Auto Style tartan question shows what happens when the patterns do not agree.
The reclining seats
If the Polo is a road car that sees the odd track day, a recliner is the right answer. You keep the adjustment, you keep the standard seat belt working normally, and you can get in and out of it every day without thinking about it.
The Daytona is the value pick and the one we sell most of. The Le Mans steps up the bolstering through the shoulders and thighs, and the Heritage is the same seat with the period detailing turned up. The Stuttgart is a slightly more upright back if you prefer sitting square. All four are built to order in your choice of trim, so the colour and the stitching are yours to pick.

Trimmed to order, which is the real luxuryCobra do not sell you whatever is on the shelf. The listing carries a trim option list: one or two colour combinations in vinyl, leather, leather and Dinamica or spacer fabric, with matching or contrasting piping and stitching, and tartan among the choices. In a small car where you see the seats every time you open the door, that is where the money is best spent.
Going fixed back: the Nogaro
If the Polo is more track than road, the Nogaro is the Cobra bucket to look at. It is a fixed back seat, Road and Track rated rather than FIA homologated, so it is the right thing for fast road and track day use and the wrong thing if your regulations demand a homologation.
The Club Sport is the way in. The Street adds the trim and the finish, the Circuit is the more aggressive shape, and the Speedster is the low backed one. Read the next section before you pick that last one.

The one Nogaro warning, and it catches tall drivers
The Nogaro has a reputation for suiting tall drivers, and it is deserved. The 910mm backrest puts the harness slots above the shoulder line of somebody over six foot, which is exactly what you want and exactly what most buckets fail to do.
The Speedster does not do that. It is the same family and the same quality, but the backrest is 700mm, which is 210mm shorter, and that removes the whole reason a tall driver was reaching for a Nogaro. It is a lovely seat in an open topped or a low roofed car where a tall back would look wrong. It is not the seat to buy because somebody told you Nogaros suit tall drivers.
210mm of backrest is the whole difference. It is why the Nogaro suits a tall driver and why the Speedster, lovely seat though it is, does not.
Mounting a fixed back
A recliner bolts to the frame through its base and that is the end of it. A fixed back bucket needs something between the shell and the frame, and Cobra make their own kit for the Nogaro. If you want the seat to slide, that is what the sliding fitting kit is for.
Worth deciding early, because it changes your seat height. In a Polo the roofline is not generous and every millimetre you add under the seat is one you lose above your head. If only one person drives the car, bolting it down solid puts you lower and gives you one less thing to work loose.

Common questions
Does the Cobra frame fit my Polo?
The listing covers the Mk6 from 2018 to 2021. Send us the registration and we will confirm before you order, because model years and facelifts do not always line up with what the badge suggests.
Can I use a seat from another brand?
Only if it shares the 291mm x 330mm pattern. Sparco and OMP seats are 345mm x 271mm and Recaro is 405mm x 290mm, so none of those bolt to this frame as they come. Tell us the seat you are considering and we will check its pattern against the frame.
Is the Nogaro FIA approved?
No. It is Road and Track rated, which is right for fast road and track days. If your championship requires an FIA homologated seat, tell us the class and we will point you at something that carries one.
I am over six foot. Which one?
A Nogaro Street, Circuit or Club Sport, all of which have the 910mm backrest that puts the harness slots above your shoulders. Not the Speedster, whose back is 700mm.
Do I need runners as well?
Only if you want the seat to slide. Bolting straight to the frame puts you lower, which is worth having in a Polo. If two people of different heights share the car, buy the runners.
Can I keep the standard seat belt?
Yes, with either the recliners or the Nogaros. The harness slots in the buckets are there for later if you add a proper harness and somewhere to anchor it.

The next stepSend us the registration and how the car gets used
The frame is settled on this car, so the only real question is which seat. Ring 0115 647 8650 with the registration and tell Cameron whether it is mostly road or mostly track, and how tall you are, because on the Nogaro range that last one decides it. Garreth will spec the trim with you if you go the reclining route.
