Top 5 Reclining Seat Choices For Your Skoda Octavia Mk2, Including Our Fitting Guide

Octavia Mk2 owners tend to run their cars harder than the badge suggests. The RS in particular, with its 2.0 TFSI or TDI under the bonnet, is properly quick, and it is the kind of car people track on evenings because they also drive it to work every morning. The stock seats handle the motorway fine. The moment you start using the chassis properly, the side bolsters start working against you rather than with you.

A reclining sport seat is the right middle ground for a car like this. You keep the folding backrest for passengers and long runs, you gain proper lateral support for corners and track use, and the Cobra subframe drops your seating position noticeably lower than standard without any modification to the floor. There is one frame route for this car and it covers all five seats in this guide.

  • One frame route in stock for the Octavia Mk2: the Cobra Direct Fit Subframe
  • Cobra recliners take the 291mm route; Corbeau recliners are drilled for both patterns and fit this frame
  • Runner included in the frame price, unlike most other frame brands
  • Bolts to the factory mounting points, no drilling on a standard floor

The frame route into an Octavia Mk2

There is one fitting frame in stock for this car and it covers everything below. The Cobra Direct Fit Subframe bolts to the factory mounting points in the floor of the Mk2, and it includes the sliding runner in the price. Most frame brands sell the runner separately and it catches people out when the parts arrive. On this one you get everything in a single listing, and you buy one per seat. The subframe sets your final seating height. Most people end up meaningfully lower than standard and come back pleased with the result, though it is worth knowing that the whole driving position changes, including your eyeline over the bonnet and where the door mirrors sit.

Tell Cobra which seat you are fitting at checkout. They need the combination to get the runner adjustment range right before it leaves them.

291

Cobra Direct Fit Subframe

Part 14498, £231.66 inc VAT per seat. Runner included. Takes Cobra 291mm pattern recliners and Corbeau recliners drilled for the 291mm route.

The number that decides it

There is one bolt pattern to know for this car. Cobra recliners use 291mm x 330mm, and that is what the Cobra subframe is built for. Corbeau recliners are drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, which is why the two Corbeau options below appear in the fits column alongside the Cobras. The 345mm Corbeau holes are simply not used on this frame; the seat bolts down on its 291mm side and the 345mm holes sit empty. Pick any of the five seats and the single frame route here takes it.

Pick the seat firstThe subframe decides only the height. Every seat in this guide fits, so choose by how you want to drive rather than by pattern arithmetic. Cameron's job at GSM is working out which one suits a given car and driver, so if you are between two, ask before ordering.

Cobra Daytona: the seat to start with

The Daytona is the seat I come back to most often for Octavia owners. Deep bolsters at the shoulders and thighs give proper lateral support in corners without making it awkward to get in and out of a four door, and the range of adjustment on the recline mechanism covers the range of people who put long hours into this car. It is built to order through Cobra’s Signature range, which means you specify the trim, colour and stitching rather than picking off a shelf. If you want heating or lumbar support as well, both are available at the same build stage. The Tartan Edition (226799) is the ready-to-order version for people who want the distinctive look without speccing it themselves, with black vinyl outers and a tartan centre panel.

  • From £599.00 inc VAT, built to order in your trim and colour
  • Tartan Edition (226799) at £899.00 inc VAT, ready to order
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights, 13.5kg
  • Signature trim options, heating and lumbar available
  • 291mm x 330mm: Cobra subframe with included runner

Corbeau Sportline RRS Low Base: the Corbeau that suits this car

The Low Base version of the RRS is worth knowing for the Mk2 specifically because of headroom. Once the Cobra subframe drops your seating position, the gap between the top of your head and the roof closes. The lower base shell on this version buys back enough that it matters on the Mk2, which is not a low-roofed car but does have less headroom than people expect once the driving position has moved. The RRS itself has the sculpted backrest shape that Corbeau have been making for years, and it comes in cloth, vinyl or leather at the same entry price. If you want both seats done in one order, the two-seat listing (187173) covers the pair at £984.00 inc VAT.

  • From £498.00 inc VAT for one seat, cloth, vinyl or leather
  • Pair (187173) at £984.00 inc VAT for both sides in one order
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • Low Base: lower shell, more headroom than the standard RRS backrest height
  • Drilled for 291mm and 345mm: fits the Cobra subframe via the 291mm route

Cobra Le Mans Heritage: the understated option

The Le Mans Heritage suits the Octavia Mk2 rather well. It is slightly less aggressive through the shoulders than the Daytona, with a longer, more upright back that covers long motorway runs as comfortably as it handles track use, and it is 0.1kg lighter. The Heritage name comes from the classic long-distance seat shape Cobra have been building for decades, and like everything in the Signature range it is made to order in whatever combination of trim and colour you want. If you look at the Daytona and the Le Mans Heritage side by side in the showroom and find the Daytona feels like too much of a statement, this is usually the one people go back to on the second look.

  • £649.00 inc VAT, built to order in your trim
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights, 13.4kg
  • Same Signature trim system as the Daytona
  • No head support, compatible with any headrest arrangement
  • 291mm x 330mm: Cobra subframe with included runner

Corbeau SVR: both sides, one order

The SVR is the seat to pick when you want both sides of the car done at the same time and want more structure through the upper back than the RRS gives. The tall, smooth backrest on the SVR supports the shoulders without the pronounced bolster edge of a bucket seat, which keeps it usable as a daily driver. It comes as a vinyl pair, so one listing, one order, both seats. At £1,020.00 inc VAT for the pair it works out at £510 a side. Cameron has fitted these in a few family hatches where the owner wanted the daily-driver compromise and the ability to do track evenings. They hold up well to regular use. The heated pair (239142) is worth knowing if the Octavia is a winter car.

  • £1,020.00 inc VAT for a vinyl pair, driver and passenger in one order
  • Heated pair (239142) at £1,248.00 inc VAT for winter use
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • Smooth SVR backrest, taller than the RRS shape
  • Drilled for 291mm and 345mm: fits the Cobra subframe via the 291mm route

Cobra Misano Anniversary: if budget is not the main filter

The Misano Anniversary is Cobra’s best recliner, and the one people tend to refuse to get out of in the showroom. The cushioning is where the money went: the foam holds its shape on long runs in a way the lower-priced Cobras do not, the lumbar feels supported without being forced, and the bolsters are deep enough to do track work without tiring your core. It is also the lightest Cobra in this guide at 11.5kg, lighter than both the Daytona and the Le Mans Heritage, which is worth knowing if weight is part of the consideration. The Misano Anniversary Spec 2 (18255) is the other trim option at the same price, different colour and material combination. Both go through the Signature system, so you can ask about alterations at the same time.

  • £1,649.00 inc VAT, built through the Cobra Signature range
  • Misano Anniversary Spec 2 (18255) at £1,649.00 inc VAT, different trim option
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights, 11.5kg
  • Lumbar and heating options available
  • 291mm x 330mm: Cobra subframe with included runner

Getting it bolted down

The Cobra Octavia Mk2 subframe (14498) is the only route we sell for this car. All five seats bolt to the factory floor mounting points with no drilling on a standard floor. The runner is included in the frame price, which is the main thing that distinguishes the Cobra listing from most of the alternatives; other brands list the runner separately and it adds to the cost at a stage where people have already committed. One subframe covers one seat, so a pair means two frames in the basket. Torque the floor bolts to the right spec and check seat belt buckle clearance before driving, because a lowered seat often puts the buckle somewhere you have not seen before.

Common questions

Do I need to drill the floor of my Octavia Mk2?

No. The Cobra Mk2 subframe bolts to the factory seat mounting points. Torque the floor bolts properly and check the seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a lowered seat often puts the buckle somewhere different to where it was.

The Corbeau is drilled for 345mm as well as 291mm. Does it still work on the Cobra subframe?

Yes. The Cobra subframe takes the 291mm route, and Corbeau recliners have both sets of bolt holes. The 291mm holes are the ones in use; the 345mm holes sit empty. The runner included with the Cobra frame takes care of the rest.

Can I use these seats as a proper daily driver?

All five in this guide keep a reclining backrest, which is what separates them from fixed-back buckets. They are built for regular use. The Corbeau RRS gives the most flexibility in backrest angle if different drivers use the same car.

Would a fixed bucket seat suit my Octavia better?

If the car has moved mostly toward track use, a fixed back saves weight and holds you harder in corners. We have also put together reclining seat choices for the Skoda Octavia Mk1 if you are researching across generations.

Why is the frame listed per seat rather than per car?

Each Cobra subframe covers one seat position. A pair means two frames in the basket, one for driver and one for passenger. Tell Cobra the seat at checkout; they need the combination to set the runner adjustment correctly before it goes out.

What I would actually buy

For most Octavia Mk2 owners the Cobra Daytona is the right answer. It covers daily driving and track evenings, goes into the single frame route without any complication, and the Signature build means you can have it in whatever trim suits the car. If the car is more weekend or track than commuter and you want both seats sorted in one order, the Corbeau SVR pair makes sense. Cameron would not argue with either of those calls.

The honest answer to “what is the best seat in this guide” is the Cobra Misano. It is lighter than the Daytona, the cushioning holds better over a long run, and every time we have put someone in one they have not wanted to get out. If the budget allows it, it is the one to get.

If you are between two of these or you want to talk through heights and waist sizes before committing, call us on 0115 9893488 and we will sort it out before you spend anything.
