The Sparco Master FIA Bucket Seat: Showcased at GSM Performance
In the showroom, April 2025
A Sparco Master FIA bucket seat has just passed through our showroom for its pre-dispatch check before going out to a customer, and it was the first time we had one of these in our hands. We took the chance to have a proper look at it and photograph it.
The Master is a fibreglass competition seat homologated to FIA 8855-2021, the newer seat standard, with integral head protection, deep shoulder and hip support and its own dedicated side mounts. Here is what it is, what the 8855-2021 approval means, and the dimensions to check before you order one.
- Sparco Master, part number S008030, a fibreglass fixed back competition seat
- Homologated to FIA 8855-2021, valid for 10 years from manufacture
- Integral head protection with shock absorbing foam, and memory foam where it takes shock
- Anti slip fabric on the shoulders and seat, and guides for a racing net
- Side mounts at 290mm hole spacing with four M12 fixings; Sparco make dedicated mounts (S004919)
- Listed for a 32 to 36 inch waist, all heights

First impressions
The Master makes an impression before you sit in it. The head restraints wrap well forward either side of the helmet, the shoulder bolsters are deep, and the base is shaped to hold your hips and thighs. Sparco use a low seat cushion, so your legs sit down inside the side bolsters, not on top of them.
The detail work is good too. There is anti slip fabric on the shoulders and the seat to stop you sliding about, memory foam in the areas that take shock, shock absorbing foam in the head area, and a two piece leg cushion. The shell has integrated guides for fitting a racing net.
This is a competition seat, not a road seat. The extended head restraints limit how much you can see over your shoulder, which is fine on a circuit or a stage but not something to live with every day.
What FIA 8855-2021 approval means
FIA 8855-2021 is the newer of the two FIA seat standards. Most competition seats are still homologated to FIA 8855-1999, which is valid for five years from the date of manufacture. An 8855-2021 seat is valid for ten years from manufacture, so a Master stays legal for many more seasons. On price, it is worth working out the cost per season, not just the cost of the seat.
The newer standard also asks more of the seat. 8855-2021 seats include structural head restraints, and the standard approves the shell and its mounts together, not the shell alone. That is why the side mounts matter so much with this seat.
Our guide to FIA 8855-1999 and 8855-2021 seats explains the differences in more detail. As always, your championship’s rules and your scrutineer decide what you can run.
The Sparco Master side mounts
Sparco make side mounts specifically for the Master, part number S004919, in steel. The seat’s low cushion, integral head protection and shape give it mounting geometry of its own, and a general purpose side mount will not hold it at the position it was designed to sit in.
An approved seat keeps its approval only when it is mounted the way it was approved, so if you are running the Master in competition, use the matched mounts. You will still need a vehicle specific frame underneath them; tell us the car and we will match one. Set the seat position before you fix the harness anchor points, because the seat height decides where the shoulder straps can run.
Sparco Master dimensions
These are the figures from Sparco's dimension drawing. Check them against your car before ordering, especially the height and the width at the shoulders.
- Overall height: 954mm
- Overall length at the base: 697mm
- Width across the back of the shell: 612mm
- Width across the top of the front view: 457mm
- Height marked on the front view: 672mm
- Fixing width: 401mm at the front, 390mm at the rear
- Side mount holes: 290mm apart, four M12 fixings

Our listing puts the Master at a 32 to 36 inch waist, for drivers of all heights. Garreth’s advice with any seat this enclosing is to measure your hips and shoulders, not just your waist, and to send us the figures with the car. The head restraints make the shell tall, so check the clearance to the roof and the cage as well.
Who the Master suits
- Drivers who want strong lateral support and head protection in one seat.
- Anyone entering events that call for an FIA 8855-2021 seat.
- Long term builds, where a ten year homologation means one seat can see the car through many seasons.
- Endurance, circuit and club competition, where the seat will be in the car for long stints.
The Master is not the only 10 year seat we list. Our section of seats with 10 year homologation covers the other FIA 8855-2021 options.
What FIA approval does the Sparco Master have?
It is homologated to FIA 8855-2021, which is valid for ten years from the date of manufacture.
Do I need the Sparco Master side mounts?
Sparco make dedicated side mounts for the Master (S004919). An approved seat keeps its approval only when mounted as approved, so use the matched mounts for competition.
What waist size does the Sparco Master suit?
Our listing puts it at a 32 to 36 inch waist, for drivers of all heights.
What is the side mount hole spacing on the Master?
290mm between holes, with four M12 fixings, according to Sparco’s drawing.
