SW Motorsports roll cages
SW Motorsports is the third of the cage brands we carry, and it sits in a different place to the other two. Where Safety Devices covers the broad bolt-in market and Custom Cages is the competition weld-in specialist, SW is the track day and fast road end. Half cages, self-assembly kits from around £240, and a properly good line of seat mounts.
Half cages rather than full ones, Road and Track rather than FIA, and the cheapest route into a vehicle specific cage on the whole site. If you are racing under regulations, look at Custom Cages or Safety Devices instead.
Where SW Motorsports fits
SW Motorsports work out of a workshop in Leyland, Lancashire, and have been doing motorsport fabrication for over twenty years. Cages, bespoke chassis work and custom metalwork, all designed and built in house.
The kit is what makes the fit good. CNC mandrel bending for the tube, and 3D scanning to get the shape of a given shell right, which is why these drop into standard mounting positions rather than needing persuasion.
Where they are genuinely different is the half cage focus. Most cage brands start at full competition and work down. SW start at the track day car that still has to drive home, and that turns out to be what a lot of people actually want.
Motorsport fabrication from a fully equipped workshop in Leyland, Lancashire.
Cages designed and manufactured on site rather than bought in, using CNC mandrel bending and 3D scanning.
The focus is the track day and fast road car that still has to be usable, rather than full competition builds.
Bespoke chassis work, custom metalwork, seat mounts, subframes and seat delete panels.
Four things they do, done well
This is a focused range rather than a sprawling one, and the DIY kits are the part worth knowing about.
01Bolt-in half cages
The core product. Vehicle specific, behind the B pillar, and they drop into standard mounting positions on a straight car. Around £480 for most of the range.
02DIY self-assembly kits
The same idea supplied as a kit for you to build up. Around £240 to £265, which makes it the cheapest vehicle specific cage on the site by a distance.
03Seat mounts and subframes
Made from 4mm steel and cut for specific cars, which is a proper step up from a universal bracket. Side mounts from £67 and direct fit subframes alongside.
04Seat delete and accessories
Seat delete panels cut for the exact car, plus an MSA and FIA approved ballast box and harness alignment tabs. Nobody else in our range really covers this.
Four questions, in this order
The first one decides whether SW is the right brand for you at all.
Are you competing under regulations?
If a scrutineer is going to look at the car, SW is probably not the answer. The half cages and DIY kits are listed Road and Track, which is exactly right for a track day or a fast road car but will not satisfy an FIA or Motorsport UK requirement. Our Custom Cages and Safety Devices guides cover the approved routes.
Half cage or full cage?
A half cage sits behind the B pillar, leaves the front of the cabin alone and keeps the car usable. That is what SW build. If you want a front hoop and door bars you are into full cage territory and a different brand.
Ready built or DIY?
This is the SW specific question and it is worth real money. A bolt-in half cage is around £480. The self-assembly kit for the same sort of car is around £240 to £265. If you are handy and have the time, the saving is substantial. If you would rather it arrived done, buy the bolt-in.
CDS or T45?
Most of the cages are offered in both. CDS is cold drawn seamless, the standard cage tube, and perfectly good for this use. T45 is the higher grade and builds lighter for the same strength, at more money. For a track day car CDS is not a compromise.
The self-assembly kits are the best value thing on this whole site and almost nobody knows they exist. Two hundred and forty pounds for a vehicle specific half cage, cut for your shell. If you have got a track day car and a weekend, that is a very hard number to argue with.
Cameron, GSM PerformanceBolt-in half cages
Four of the most requested, and a fair snapshot of the market SW serve. Fiat 500, Fiesta Mk7, Focus Mk2 and Civic EK, all at the same price, all bolt-in, all cut for the shell so they go in without fabrication on a straight car.

The cheapest way into a proper cage
Same vehicle specific approach, supplied as a kit for you to assemble, at roughly half the price of the bolt-in equivalent. Lupo, Swift, C2 and A4 B8 here, with 35 cars covered in total. Read the fitting notes before ordering, because you are doing the build.

Porsche 911 996 and 997 half cage
Worth singling out because it is the car people are most nervous about putting a cage in. Vehicle specific, bolt-in, and available in CDS or T45.
If you track a 996 or 997 and want rear protection without turning it into a race car, this is the sensible answer, and it is a lot less money than the full competition route.
4mm steel, cut for the car
These are better than they look on paper. Made from 4mm steel rather than the thinner stock a lot of universal mounts use, and cut for specific cars. The E46 side mounts at £67 are the volume seller, with Clio Mk3 and Megane RS250 alongside and direct fit subframes for the same cars.

The bits that finish a build
Harness alignment tabs at a tenner, seat delete panels cut for the exact car, and an MSA and FIA approved ballast box. The seat delete kits are the ones worth knowing about, because they finish a stripped rear end properly instead of leaving bare floor.

What is in the range
A focused list, weighted towards modern hot hatches, BMWs and track day favourites rather than historics.
SW also do bespoke chassis work and custom metalwork, so if your car is not on the list it is worth asking rather than assuming. Ring us with the car and what you are trying to achieve.
Common questions about SW Motorsports
Who are SW Motorsports?▾
A roll cage and fabrication specialist based in Leyland, Lancashire, with more than twenty years in motorsport fabrication. Everything is designed and made in house on CNC mandrel benders, with 3D scanning used to get the fit right on a given shell.
What is a half cage?▾
A cage that protects the area behind the B pillar rather than the whole cabin. It leaves the front of the car alone, which keeps a road car civilised, and it is what most track day organisers and fast road builds actually need.
What is the DIY self-assembly kit?▾
A vehicle specific half cage supplied as a kit for you to assemble, which is why it is around £240 to £265 rather than the £480 a bolt-in half cage usually costs. It is the cheapest way into a proper vehicle specific cage that we sell from anybody.
Are SW cages FIA approved?▾
The half cages and DIY kits are listed Road and Track, which is right for track days and fast road but not for scrutineered competition. If you need FIA or Motorsport UK approval, look at our Custom Cages or Safety Devices guides instead.
CDS or T45?▾
Most SW cages are offered in both. CDS is cold drawn seamless tube and the standard material. T45 is the higher grade and builds lighter for the same strength, at more money. For track day use CDS is not a compromise.
What are the seat mounts like?▾
Made from 4mm steel, which is noticeably more substantial than a lot of universal side mounts, and cut for specific cars rather than generic. They start at £67, and there are direct fit subframes alongside them.
What is a seat delete kit?▾
A panel that tidies up the space where the rear seats used to be, cut for that exact car. Nobody else in our range really does these, and they finish a stripped interior properly rather than leaving exposed floor.
Will a SW cage fit my car?▾
They cover a good spread of modern hot hatches, BMWs, Porsches and track favourites, with over 140 cages plus 35 DIY kits. They also do bespoke chassis and custom metalwork, so ring us if your car is not listed.
Track day car, or scrutineered?
That one answer decides whether SW is right for you or whether you need an approved cage from one of the other two. Tell us the car and what you are doing with it and we will point you at the correct brand, not just the nearest one. Ring and ask for Cameron.
