The Race 4 Snap-On (part number 71000) is Takata’s entry point for drivers who need FIA approval. It carries FIA 8854-1998 homologation, which is the approval code specifically required by many UK track day regulations, sprint event supplementary regulations, and club racing regulations where a harness is mandated but an FHR device is not.
The cam-lock buckle is the most visible difference from the Drift series. One pull on the central lever releases all four straps at once, versus the push-button clip on the Drift harnesses. Competition regulations in many categories require a cam-lock release rather than a push-button; if scrutineers check buckle type, this is the harness that passes.
Snap-on installation uses the eye bolt anchors at the car’s lap belt mounting points. Shoulder brackets are removable for wrap-around mounting on a harness bar or cage. The ASM anti-submarining system is built into the lap belt. Straps are 3 inches at the shoulder, 2 inches at the lap.
The Race 4 is HANS-friendly but not HANS-specific. It works with a HANS device, but the 3-inch shoulder strap width does not optimise contact with the HANS slots the way the 2-inch Race 2×2 (part number 94005) does. If your event regulations require FIA 8853-2016 with a HANS, the Race 2×2 is the correct choice.
The bolt-on version is part number 71001. Both versions come in black or Takata racing green. This harness is made in Germany by Takata Racing (Europe). The FIA homologation carries an expiry date stamped on the label; check it before entering any event that requires current FIA approval.
Comfort pads for 3-inch straps: Takata 3 Inch Comfort Pads. For the HANS-specific option: Takata Race 2×2 FIA 6 Point Harness.
