The most trim area in the car, in the most demanding material
A fully split bench has more separate panels and more edges than either of the other configurations, and every one of them is a seam. In leather that is more work, which is part of why this is the dearest bench configuration.
It is also the largest single expanse of leather you can put in a car, so it does more to make an interior read as leather than the front seats do.
Think about what the seat is for
A fully split rear seat was fitted so the car could carry things. If yours still does that regularly, leather is the material in this range least suited to it, and folded backrests become load floors.
Vinyl handles that at a fraction of the cost. Leather makes sense when the split is there because the car came that way rather than because it earns its keep.
Care
The tops of both backrest sections sit under the rear screen and take unshaded sun. That is where leather in a car dries and cracks first, and feeding it twice a year is what prevents it.
