The Grid Q Sky is the vinyl-trimmed variant of Sparco’s Grid Q FIA bucket seat, approved to FIA 8855-1999. The Sky colourway comes in vinyl rather than the fabric found on the standard Grid Q, which wipes down faster after a wet session and holds its look longer in a hard-used environment.
As a seat, the Grid Q sits in the middle of Sparco’s fibreglass QRT range. The Rev QRT below it runs velour, costs a little less, and suits a driver after their first FIA-approved seat at entry price. The Grid Q adds better lateral support and a more substantial trim option without the price jump to the Evo shell. The Evo L above it is built for broader-shouldered drivers who find the standard shell too narrow. If the standard Grid Q fabric suits you and colour is not a priority, the standard SKU is the cheaper route to the same seat.
SKU S008009RNRSKY is side-mount only. It needs Sparco’s steel FIA side mounts (SS004902) and a vehicle-specific sub-frame before it fits any car. There is no base-mount or floor-mount option on this shell. It is compatible with 4-point and 6-point harnesses and is HANS device friendly, which is required for most FIA series where a cage and HANS use is mandated.
Harness compatibility matters on a seat like this: a 6-point routes the sub strap up through the seat rather than under it, which positions you correctly when running a HANS collar. A 4-point will also work with this seat, but most club-level FIA circuit series now require FHR use alongside a caged car.
Correct for any series specifying FIA 8855-1999 homologation. Check your championship regulations before selecting this for race use, because some series have moved to newer standards and this homologation must match what the regs allow.
Have you written anything about this exact product?
Yes, we have covered this exact product: The Sparco Grid-Q FIA Bucket Seat, A Perfect Match for the Nissan 350Z, and Sparco Grid Q Sky Gaming Seat Now In-Store and Ready to Test. That is first-hand coverage from our own builds and showroom, not brochure copy.
Will I fit in this seat?
Send us your height and waist size and we will confirm the fit. The paper dimensions only tell half the story, and our showroom team sit in these seats every day, so you get the honest answer rather than a guess from a chart.
Is it FIA approved, and for how long?
Yes, it carries FIA 8855-1999 homologation. Every FIA seat has a not-valid-after year printed on its homologation label, and that label date is what a scrutineer checks, so look at the label on the seat you receive and check it against your championship regulations. Buying new means you get the freshest label the maker currently produces.
What do I need to fit it to my car?
This is a side-mount seat: it hangs between side brackets, the motorsport-style stack with fine height and angle control. You will need the car-specific frame, and a sliding runner if you want fore-and-aft adjustment. Our guide on base mount versus side mount walks through the whole stack, and tell us your car and we will quote the full kit.
Does it work with harnesses and a HANS device?
The shell takes 4 point compatible and 6 point compatible. If you are planning the full seat, harness, and HANS setup, tell us the car and we will spec it end to end.
How do I know it will feel right, not just fit on paper?
Fair question, because makers publish widths and weights, never feel, and two seats with identical numbers can feel nothing alike in the car. We keep the ranges on display in the Nottingham showroom, you are welcome to come and sit in them, and if you cannot get to us, call and describe your build, as the team sit in these seats every day. Our head support measurements guide shows the kind of real-world data we collect.
