| Roll Cage Design |
Roll cages are not sized to you. Every one we sell is made for a specific car, so the first filter is your make, model and year. After that you are choosing four things: bolt-in or weld-in, how many mounting points, which material, and which approval you need.
| Type | How it fits | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Bolt-in | Bolts to mounting plates on the floor and sills | Removable. No welding. The usual choice for a road car or a track day car |
| Weld-in | Welded directly into the shell | Permanent and stiffer. What most competition classes require |
Bolt-in is the practical choice for a car that is still road registered, or one you might want to return to standard. Weld-in is stiffer, because the cage becomes part of the shell rather than something bolted to it, and it is what most competition classes require. It also means cutting trim and carpet and it is not coming out again.
| Configuration | What it is | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 6 point | Six mounting points | Rear cages and lighter installations |
| Multipoint | Eight points minimum | Full cages. What most championships ask for |
A rear cage protects the driver from behind and gives you somewhere to mount harnesses. A full multipoint cage adds the front hoop and the roof. If you are fitting harnesses and nothing else, a rear cage with a harness bar may be all you need, and it is far less intrusive to live with.
| Material | What it is | Why you would pick it |
|---|---|---|
| CDS | Cold drawn seamless steel | The standard. Strongest value, heaviest of the three |
| T45 | Carbon manganese alloy | Higher strength for the weight, so a lighter cage. Costs more |
| 25CrMo4 | Chromoly | The lightest for a given strength. Specialist welding, top of the range |
For most road and track day cars, CDS is the right answer and the price difference is better spent elsewhere. T45 and chromoly earn their money in competition where the weight saving is worth paying for, and where the class allows them. Check your regulations, because not every class accepts every material.
| Design | What it adds |
|---|---|
| Single fixed diagonal | The simplest rear brace |
| Cross diagonal and harness bar | Adds a harness mounting point |
| Multipoint cross diagonal and harness bar | A fuller structure |
| With door bars | Adds side impact protection, and makes getting in harder |
Door bars are the trade-off worth thinking about. They are a real gain in side impact protection and they make climbing in and out considerably harder, which matters more than people expect in a car you use often. If the car is road driven, try getting in over a door bar before you commit.
These are the exact terms you will see on our products, and they are not interchangeable.
Our cages are manufactured in the United Kingdom and supplied in bare metal, with powder coating available as an option. Bare metal is the standard because most people want to paint or coat it to match the car, and because a coated cage still has to be prepared where it welds.
Check the exact model and year against the product. Our cages are listed to specific variants, and a Focus Mk3 cage is not a Mk2 cage. Some are listed as rear cage only, which is easy to miss when the title otherwise matches. If your car has a sunroof, a different roof pressing or a factory option that changes the shell, tell us before you order.
All specifications read from our own product data across the roll cage categories, checked 2 August 2026. Approval wording is quoted as it appears on our products. Always confirm against your current championship regulations, which change.
Will it fit my car?
Cages are shell-specific, so match the exact model, generation, and body style in the product name to your car. Sunroofs and trim can affect fitment too. Send us the registration and we will confirm before you order.
Can I fit a bolt-in cage myself?
A competent home builder can: the work is positioning, drilling the mounting feet, and torquing it all correctly. Our guide on what cage fitting costs covers the realistic numbers if you would rather have it done.
What steel is it, and does that matter?
Steel choice changes weight, cost, and what some regulations accept. Our guide on T45 versus CDS cage steel explains the trade-offs in plain terms, and the specification above states what this kit uses where the maker publishes it.
Is it legal for my championship?
Cage requirements are set by your championship regulations and differ by discipline and era of car. Read our plain-English guide on what Motorsport UK and the FIA actually require, then tell us your series and we will confirm the right specification.
