Check the chassis code, not the Mini badge
The R50, R52, R53 and R56 span two Mini generations and they do not all take the same frame. The R53 is listed separately on the same HC818 stem.
This is the commonest cause of a wrong order on a Mini. The cars look closely related and the floors are not, so read the V5 rather than the badge, and send it to us if the code is not obvious.
What a Mini needs from a seat
Support more than height. A Mini already puts you fairly low and quite upright, so the gain from a bucket is mostly lateral: these cars carry a lot of cornering speed for their size and the standard seat lets you move.
Space is the constraint. A Mini cabin is narrower than the exterior suggests, so measure between the tunnel and the sill before choosing a shell and tell us the figure.
The frame
Steel, base mount, bolting to the mounting points already in the floor. Nothing is drilled and the standard seats come out whole, which matters on a car people tend to sell on rather than keep.
Two bolt patterns from the multi-hole clusters at each corner: 345mm by 271mm for Sparco, OMP and Corbeau, 405mm by 290mm for Recaro. Sold singly and handed, so order twice for a pair.
Will this fit my car?
This frame is made for the BMW Mini R56 (R56). Chassis code and years matter more than the badge, as floor pans change between generations, so if your car sits near a changeover year, send us the registration and we will confirm before you order.
Which seats does it take?
It takes seats drilled 345mm x 271mm (the Sparco and OMP seat pattern) and 405mm x 290mm (the Recaro seat pattern). If your seat is not listed, tell us what you run and we will confirm the fit.
Do I keep fore-and-aft adjustment?
Only with a sliding runner between the frame and the seat, which is a separate part on OMP frames. If more than one person drives the car, budget for the runner. Our guide to sliding runners explains the options and widths.
Base mount or side mount, and does it matter?
