The HA789N is OMP’s HRC One: a full carbon seat approved to FIA 8862-2009 and trimmed in Airtex. It sits in the same price bracket as the HTE One Carbon, the other carbon seat in the OMP range at this tier, and the two serve different driver geometries from the same competition approval level.

FIA 8862-2009 is the higher-specification seat approval in the OMP range. For series where the regulations specify the 8862 standard rather than the older 8855-1999, this is one of the two seats in stock that meets it.

Carbon construction. Side mount at 290mm lateral spacing. Head support included. Driver height: all heights suitable. Waist 36-38 inches. 4-point and 6-point harness compatible. Airtex trim, which is more breathable in long stints than vinyl or velour.

The HRC One is not sold with brackets. Side mounts and a vehicle-specific subframe are required separately.

For drivers choosing between the HRC One (HA789N, £5,525) and the HTE One Carbon (HA/761E, £5,695), both are carbon, both are FIA 8862-2009, and both are sized for 36-38 inch waist. The shell profiles differ between the two models, so which one suits a given driver depends on personal fit. If ordering at this tier, it is worth measuring against both shell geometries if you have the opportunity before committing.

OMP seat size guide

OMP publish a full dimension table for every shell, which makes them the easiest brand to size from a measurement. Most models are one size, with XL versions on the HTE-R, WRC-R, HRC-R and TRS-E.

How OMP size their seats

OMP quote external width at the shoulders, external width at the base, overall height and, the useful one, the inner width at the belt holes. Compare that inner width with your seated hip measurement: you want 20 to 40 mm of room, no more. The XL shells add 20 to 45 mm of inner width and 30 to 60 mm of height.

The HTE-R is the mid-size shell at 390 mm inside; the HTE-R XL and WRC-R XL go to 415 mm; the TRS-E XS is the slim one at 330 mm. Carbon versions of the same model are a little narrower than the fibreglass ones, which is worth knowing if you are at the edge.

The WRC-R XL is the big oneAt 665 mm across the shoulders and 415 mm inside it is the widest OMP we list, and the only one we band to a 42 inch waist.

Every OMP shell in the table fixes through the side with four M8 8.8 bolts as a minimum. The TRS-E also takes bottom fixing.

Measure yourself first

Four numbers decide whether a seat fits. Take them in the clothes you drive in, and write them down before you compare models.

AWaistAround your natural waist, not your trouser size. Trouser sizes usually run an inch or two under the real figure, and the waist bands on our product pages use the real one.

BSeated hip widthSit on a hard chair with your feet flat and measure straight across the widest point of your hips with a rule or a straight edge, not a tape that follows the curve. This is the number that decides whether a fixed shell is tight.

CShouldersStraight across the back at the widest point. Fixed back seats hold you here, so a shell that is narrow at the shoulders is uncomfortable long before it is unsafe.

DHeight and torsoYour height, and if you are over 6 ft whether that is mostly leg or mostly body. A long body needs a taller shell with the head support set higher.

Before you order

Check the car, not only the driver. Transmission tunnels, door cards and B pillars are what stop a wide shell going in. Our seat mounting and fixing points guide covers what to measure.
Side mount and base mount shells are not interchangeable. Which one you need depends on the car and the subframe, so pick the brackets at the same time as the seat.
If you run a HANS or plan to, filter on HANS friendly. The shoulder openings are cut to clear the collar.
FIA seats carry an expiry date on the homologation label. Check what your championship accepts and how long the seat has left, particularly on discounted older stock.

Will I fit in this seat?
The maker sizes this seat for drivers with a 36in to 38in waist. Those are the paper numbers; how a seat actually feels to sit in and climb out of is a different question, and our showroom team sit in these seats every day, so call us with your height and waist and we will give you the honest answer.

Is it FIA approved, and for how long?
Yes, it carries FIA 8862-2009 homologation. Every FIA seat has a not-valid-after year printed on its homologation label, and that label date is what a scrutineer checks, so look at the label on the seat you receive and check it against your championship regulations. Buying new means you get the freshest label the maker currently produces.

What do I need to fit it to my car?
This is a side-mount seat: it hangs between side brackets, the motorsport-style stack with fine height and angle control. You will need the car-specific frame, and a sliding runner if you want fore-and-aft adjustment. Does it work with harnesses and a HANS device?
The shell takes 4 point compatible and 6 point compatible. If you are planning the full seat, harness, and HANS setup, tell us the car and we will spec it end to end.

How do I know it will feel right, not just fit on paper?
Fair question, because makers publish widths and weights, never feel, and two seats with identical numbers can feel nothing alike in the car. We keep the ranges on display in the Nottingham showroom, you are welcome to come and sit in them, and if you cannot get to us, call and describe your build, as the team sit in these seats every day. OMP deliveries arrive every two weeks

OMP produce in batches and we receive their products on a fortnightly basis, so their most popular seats, harnesses and equipment are generally available for quick dispatch.

Reclining sport seats and less common trims are brought in to order, so those take longer.
