Custom Cages build for all three TT generations and the kits are not interchangeable. This is the Mk3, the 8S from 2014 on. The Mk2 multipoint T45 is a separate kit at the same 1420, and the Mk1 range is wider still: a multipoint in T45 at 1515 or CDS at 1093, a bolt-in T45 at 1420, a bolt-in rear at 1810, and a 6 point National Spec in CDS at 741.
If you are not certain which generation you have, the registration will tell us in a minute and it is worth asking. A cage for the wrong TT is an expensive paperweight.
What T45 buys you
Custom Cages publish minimum 620 N/mm2 yield and minimum 700 N/mm2 tensile for their T45, with elongation around 15 per cent. Their high specification CDS is minimum 370 N/mm2 yield and minimum 510 N/mm2 tensile, with elongation minimum 25 per cent.
Both are comfortably past the minimum strength the rules ask for. The FIA specifies minimum tensile 350 N/mm2, Motorsport UK specifies minimum yield 350 N/mm2, and those are different measurements rather than the same number quoted twice.
The honest summary is that T45 gives you more strength at the same tube diameter and wall. It does not let you go thinner. On the build-to-specification route the minimum tube sizes apply whatever the material, and only a homologated or certified design escapes that.
Fitting
Weld-in, so the interior comes out and a motorsport welder puts it in. On a TT that means stripping the trim and the sound deadening back from the mounting feet. Factor that into the cost and the calendar rather than the cage price alone.
Before you order
The approval wording on this kit reads FIA Approved and MSUK Compliant, which is trade shorthand. A scrutineer works from the rulebook, and the rulebook asks whether the cage is homologated or holds an ROPS certificate. Read your class regulations before ordering, particularly if you are moving between series.
