The classic Mini in 850 to 1300GT trim is one of the more demanding cars to fit a modern bucket seat into without a proper sub-frame. The floor sits very close to the driver and the cockpit is narrow by any modern standard, so seat height and lateral positioning both matter more than they do in a larger car. The Mini’s floor uses a central pontoon subframe rather than a conventional sill-based structure, and the seat fixing points are in the floor rather than on runners that span the transmission tunnel.
This Corbeau sub-frame is matched to the Mini’s specific floor geometry. The kit works off the original fixing positions in the Mini’s floor rather than requiring fresh holes to be drilled into the steel. Given that the original structure was designed for a seat that sits much lower and closer to the floor than a modern sport seat, getting the height right is the key job of the sub-frame. Corbeau have developed this kit specifically to position their seats correctly in the Mini rather than adapting a generic mounting.
